This Exciting Life - Chapter 14 Its Hard To Be A Mama
After the bath, my furry children fell asleep in a couch in the living room, their hunger satiated and their furs clean and fluffy.
It had been a nightmare to bath Yang. In the beginning he was really curious when he saw steam coming from the tub and water flowing out from the wall and went over to get a better look.
Yin, who was a little more careful, followed her brother from behind.
I started with Yin, she was a lady after all and the blood from her birth mother was more visible and a bit gory to look at. She really enjoyed it when warm water cascaded over her body and howled in joy when I began to rub in the shampoo.
She could feel her fur getting cleaner and nicer. After finishing the bath, she shook away the excessive water and I took her out of the tub to dry her with a towel. Easy-peasy was it.
She jumped on me and gave me kisses all over my face to give her thanks. It tickled.
“Yin, your brother also needs to get cleaned and you’re still not completely dry. Take this towel and lie down on the porch to dry in the sun. The barrier will protect you so be at ease.”
She shook her head. She wanted to stay with me and her brother.
I turned, only to find Yang gone from the bathroom.
“Yang, where are you?”
A little head peeked from behind the door. It was Yang. I got up and walked towards him.
“Sweetie, come to mama. You need a bath too.”
He shook his head and clearly didn’t want anything to do with what his little sister had went through. As I got closer, he stepped away.
“Sweetie, it won’t hurt one bit. Yin liked it, isn’t that right princess?”
Yin ran over to her brother and started to push him from behind.
I thought she just wanted to help and let her brother experience the joy taking a bath. But my thoughts were very different from Yang and Yin’s thoughts. Yang knew that his sister only wanted to tease him, and he knew that she knew that he really didn’t want to take that bath-thing.
It was really scary to see how his sister suddenly bloated up and was covered in some big white stuff with flowery smell that kept getting bigger and bigger every time his mama moved her paws.
After getting caught, Yang escaped several times in howls and cries. The entire house was drenched in water and soap, and me as well.
Looking at them now, lying so peaceful on the couch, my heart only melted more. They had experienced a horrible night and needed their sleep.
I sat on an armchair in front of them with a cup of Da Hong Pao tea, listening to Debussy’s Arabesque No. 1 and No. 2. I didn’t want to disturb my children.
When they finally would wake up, most of the day would have gone by and it would be too late to start travelling.
‘Let us stay one more night and enjoy the peace.’ I thought to myself.
