This Exciting Life - Chapter 17 Beasts Or Monsters?
“Haah, that was a lot of information.” I sighed and went into the library to place the little book.
Right now it was really empty and I didn’t know if books were a common commodity, but I needed to know more about this world to live in it, properly.
I wanted to go outside to take a breath of fresh air when I realised, I hadn’t looked at the cubs’ stats yet. Certainly it was bad manners to peek at other people’s stats and skills, but I felt it was a good skill to have when I found it in God’s encyclopaedia for skills and items.
I sat down on the couch and stroke their furs and tickled their ears. They were so soft and twitched at my touch and their tails did a little swish swish dance. It was kind of funny to see parts of their bodies move around like that.
‘Uuh, I just want to kiss you, yes I just want to kiss, yes I do!” my voice squealed in delight inside my head, but I did my best to ignore the wanting. My children were sleeping happily and shouldn’t be disturbed.

“Fenrir?!” I gasped. Wasn’t that the monstrous wolf in Norse Mythology? Was that a race here?
I almost fell down from the couch in surprise. I did not see that coming and only thought they were, well… normal wolves.
But they were so young, only 5 years old and very much like a human child in some ways and I had already fallen in love with them. What they were didn’t matter one bit. And my name had been attached to their status and guardian.
Later, I’d find out that ‘guardian’ was quite different from ‘master’ and had a different meaning, but for now I didn’t know that.
As to their stats and skills, they were graded differently from mine. Instead of level and numbers, it was rank and letters. It was very troublesome not to have anything to compare it to.
But were my children beasts or monsters? According to the guidebook God had given me, beasts and monsters were not the same. Beasts were intelligent beings capable of speaking the universal language. They were civilised beings with their own empires, countries and followed laws, etc.
Monsters did not have that, could not speak the universal language and did not know or had concept of legal systems, economy, etc. Not that monsters couldn’t be smart, but their primal instincts were what kept them going.
Both of my cubs were intelligent and could speak, though not very fluently. So far it had been a few words and sentences like mama, meat and their utter dislike for broccoli.
If they were beasts they should’ve had a bigger vocabulary matching a child their same age, but they couldn’t. But if they were a monster, then they shouldn’t have been able to speak at all. So what was it?
“Mama. Love. Hungry.” two voices suddenly said in a drowsy tone.
Ah, my children was awake now.
I turned my head and looked at the clock on the wall, it was almost 4 pm.
