This Exciting Life - Chapter 18 Lets Talk 1
After we finished eating, I sat down with the cubs to talk about what we were going to do from now on. They might not be able to speak properly, but we could communicate just fine.
I had my awesome language skill after all. I chose it because it would’ve been a disaster if I couldn’t communicate with others, but I didn’t know it included that kind of awesomeness before I met the cubs. Did this mean that I could speak with all beings?
By the way, I tried to feed them minestrone and Yin actually liked it, even with all those vegetables cooked together.
I don’t know if it was just broccoli she didn’t like, as so many children do, or if she’s one of those that will gobble up anything she doesn’t like, as long as she can’t see it it’s there.
Yang, on the other hand didn’t even go near the bowl and just gave it a look of cute disdain, as if he had met enemy number two. It was so moe moe.
“First I want to apologise to both of you.”
They gave me a confused look with ‘why’ written all over their cute faces. My heart went kyaa kyaa again, I just wanted to hug them, but now was not the time. I continued speaking.
“I took a peek at your status and skills without asking for permission. There’s a saying from where I was born that says “A hedge between keeps the friendships green”, which basically means to respect other people’s privacy, even if you’re close to them. You might call me mama, but I still did something bad to you.”
Yin and Yang still looked slightly confused. They understood my words just fine, but it seemed like they didn’t understand what I was trying to convey.
“Look, thanks to a certain skill called Appraisal, I can see how strong or weak someone is. I can see what skills or attributes they have and what items they posses. I can see what others might not want to have exposed.”
‘Oh, they seem enlightened.’ I thought when I saw their eyes go sparkle sparkle.
Yang asked. “Me. Strong?” As expected from a boy.
“Ehh, I think so?” I answered very hesitatingly. I mean, I was not from this world and had never met a wild wolf before, let alone a fenrir.
“Me strong, me strong!” he proclaimed happily and confident and started to run around in the living room, as if in celebration.
I felt like I was lying to him, ’cause I wasn’t sure, but I couldn’t really take it back now and change my answer.
‘I really need to meet someone who can explain everything to me and set the record straight.’ I thought and almost wanted to slap that careless mouth of mine. Don’t give me trouble, myself.
Yin placed a paw on me to ask if she was strong too. I couldn’t very well give her a different answer and said yes to her too. At least their skills sounded really impressive, like Poison Nova and Frost Nova, though they were locked for now, according to their status’.
Yin’s tail started to rotate, happy for being praised too, but unlike her brother she kept sitting still. She was a lady, yes she was.
What a pickle I’ve gotten myself into.
Shortly after Yang came back, we hadn’t finished talking.
“We’re going to stay here for one more night and tomorrow morning we move out. I’ve looked at the map and there’s a small village north of here. We’re not that deep into the forest and it’ll take us only two, maximum three, days to get there.”
While I did have Map Search as a skill, it was extremely lacking and was kind of old school. It wasn’t like Google Map with every information handed to you.
I had to fill it out myself whenever I visited a new place, just like doing the mapping in a game. It was definitely God’s way of subtlety telling me to go on adventures and have fun exploring.
It also showed three coloured dots where two of them were moving around in a 10 miles radius. I figured the three white ones were Yin, Yang and me. Yesterday there was one white dot and now there were two more.
A push pin-like flag indicated the position of my portable home. I had named my home ‘Piece of Paradise’ to pay homage to God, but mostly because it truly was my sanctuary and reminded me of my previous world.
