This Exciting Life - Chapter 2 Are You Serious??
After the death of both my parents, there was some minor dispute as to who should take me in. My paternal grandparents lived in the same city and as such it was in my best interest if I stayed with them.
After all, I had my whole life here my friends, my school, my part-time job, favourite places too hang out and most importantly, this was the city where my parents were buried.
My maternal grandparents simply lived too far away, but I promised them that I would often visit and stay with them for a long period of time each summer. I certainly didn’t mind, they lived on a horse ranch and that gave me a chance to ride every day.
This year, after summer vacation had ended, I would enter my last year of senior high school.
I’m not kidding, it had been tough to keep up with all the loss and grieving, but I did it and now I was about to begin an exciting year. I could feel it. Something good was about to happen and I needed that.
Though I had moved on, to the best of my abilities that is, there were still a lot of not so good days, grey days, but like a passing rain the sun will shine again.
I was on my way to my maternal grandparents to spend most of my summer vacation on the ranch, when it happened. A wild rabbit and its group of kits suddenly jumped out from the side of the road and I crashed my car into a pole to avoid killing them.
The last thought I had before everything went dark and silent went to my grandparents on both sides, they didn’t deserve this.
‘I’m sorry.’

“Good morning, Rebecca.” sounded a warm voice all of a sudden.
At first, I thought ‘Great, fantastic, I’m not dead! Oh no, I’m not lame now, am I?’ and opened my eyes slowly, afraid to face the cold harsh reality.
Everything around me was coloured white and soft blue. There were no walls, no lamps, no machines going beep beep and no weird tubes going in and out of my body. I would know,
I touched and patted my entire body like a pervert.
Then I felt it. I was lying on the softest and most comfortable futon ever and I buried myself deeper into the softest pillow and blanket, like a nest of cuddles. The best word to describe the feeling would probably be ‘heavenly’ or ‘divine’.
“Ah, it was just a terrible nightmare. Jesus, I almost thought it was real!” I yawned and closed my eyes to sleep again.
“I said, good morning Rebecca, and no, I’m not Jesus. That’s my son.” a voice came again, this time a little louder. I turned my body, still half asleep and mumbled “Grandpa, your jokes are so lame. Let me sleep just for five more minutes, okay?”
A row of curses suddenly came at me and a voice roared “Wake up Rebecca Silver Rosebank! Wake up this instance!”
I got up like you wouldn’t believe it and almost fainted from how fast I got up. And then I saw him or it? This was definitely not my grandpa, on either side! It looked like a human, actually an elderly man to be exact, but I really couldn’t tell if anyone asked me.
It was more like the outline of an elderly man, I guess. He was covered in bright light, his long robes looked like they were made of white light. He was like a living spotlight. I covered my eyes with a hand.
“Hey, could you like turn it down a bit? I’m kind of going blind here and it’s not good for the environment to use excessive energy .”
‘Have I been kidnapped?’ I thought. But then again, everything around me didn’t even look like it was man-made. ‘OMG! Have I been kidnapped by aliens? This MUST be a dream, right?’
My inner voice was having a field day, alright.
“Ohohoho.” this weird entity or man started laughing and lowered the bright light like one of those fancy switches that can adjust a lamp’s output. So, it was an elderly man. He gave a wry smile.
“You have not been kidnapped and certainly not by aliens. They are busy doing other things in another far away galaxy. And I’m neither Jesus nor am I ‘it’. I am God and you, dear girl, are dead.”
My eyes opened as wide as dinner plates. Actually, if I was a cartoon character and not human,
I would certainly be picking up my eyes right about now.
“Are you serious?!?”
