This Exciting Life - Chapter 5 God Is Kind
“Ohohoho.” God laughed at my reproach.
“My dear child, God sees all, hears all, knows all.”
I think God’s holy light just got stronger for a second there, doing all his Saintness-thingy.
Yep, it did. I wasn’t my imagination.
“The world of Amaranth is indeed behind the 21st Century that you know on Earth, but it is not without some advancement. In that world there exists magic tools to help with the daily lives.”
“Magic tools?” I asked. That certainly peaked my interest, just a bit. No, actually a lot. I mean, who hasn’t read Harry Potter and wished they were a part of that world? I was a Gryffindor.
God chuckled.
“Yes, child. Magic tools. Amaranth is world of magic. There exist mages, knights in shining armour, dragons, elves and all kinds of amazing beings that the people of Earth only think exists in fiction. Actually, the humans who started those stories in your world are souls that came from Amaranth to reincarnate. Some chose to keep their memories and those memories turned into the stories that you grew up with.”
I was floored, completely floored. My mouth just kind of opened and closed like a fish on land, gasping for air. I think I must have looked pretty stupid, but who cares. It’s magic! Like, for real!

God gave me time to think.
I was rolling back and forth on my cloud bed like a crazy person, but all the rolling got me a bit nauseated and I stopped. I reached out for the little cloud I had hugged earlier. My little comfort cloud, yes it was.
“Uuhhh, what should I do?” I whined to myself. Decisions, decisions.
I knew for sure that I wanted to keep my memories. No matter how many lemons life had given me in my 18 years of living, it made up who I, Rebecca Silver Rosebank, was.
Sad past or not, my parents and grandparents, like the rest of my family and friends, had given me unconditional love. I had been blessed and that I didn’t doubt.
“Say, God why are you giving me this chance? This is definitely not a common occurrence, is it?” I asked God who was sitting in the armchair and sipping tea, being totally laissez-faire.
“” No answer.
“Is it like a big cosmic secret or something?” I asked again.
God put down his cup and played with his long beard before answering.
“It’s not a secret or anything. Like I said, God sees all, hears all, knows all. Your life and the lives of your family was hit with wave after wave of tragedy. It was not your destiny to die so young and I took pity on you. Of course, there are others who are more pitiful than you, younger than you and certainly deserves this chance more than you. Thousands of people die every day without having done any evil. You can think of it as kindness, but in reality it’s just a silly whim of mine that happens once in a blue moon.”
As I listened to God’s explanation, I made up my mind.
“God, I’ve made my decision.”
I smiled.
