4 years later

There was a tingling in the back of Shino’s head and she instinctively ducked just in time to dodge a metal pole. Another warning in the back of her head sent her jumping back in order to make some distance between her opponent.

“You almost had me there. You’re weapon play is as impressive as ever Momo”

Momo smiled and and threw the pole at Shino. Reacting fast Shino snatched the weapon out of the air before it hit her. She swung it around expertly and planted it in the sand.

“Apparently I’m not as impressive as you”

Shino chuckled at that and pushed off the ground in a dash towards Momo. Her fist was raised ready for attack and a big grin was plastered on her face.

Momo quickly dodged the incoming attack and followed with one of her own. With a quick twist Shino was out of the way and aiming a kick at her opponent. Her attack was dodged and countered.

Things went like this for the next few minutes. One would send an attack and the other would dodge, block or parry.

Hand to hand combat training. It had been something they did together after knowing each other for half a year. Momo like Shino was a fast learner and could read the other’s attacks after watching her movements. She would then adapt and push back. The same could be said for Shino and so their fighting became a back and forth. Shino kept her strength conceited as to not hurt Momo and make the fight more of a challenge. As such there was hardly ever a winner between the two.

“I think that’s enough for today ” Shino stepped back and massaged her wrist. Momo had twisted it not to long ago and it was taking some time for the pain to fade. “Were you trying to break my wrist?”

“I apologize for that”

Despite the apology Momo had a proud smile on her face. She didn’t even try to hide it from the very skeptical Shino.

“Oi! What are you two doing here?”

The girls turned their attention to the voice and saw Katsuki, Sora and Izuku sliding down the sand of the beach.

“This beach is our training ground”

“It doesn’t belong to us Kacchan”

“Why are you such a possessive bastard? ”

“Shut it, Mini might! ”

“Hey Sora, Izuku”

“Hey! Why did you ignore me! ”

“Because you’re being too loud ” Shino sighed and adjusted her headphones.

“Hey Momo. Ignore Katsuki, he’s an idiot. You two are free to use the beach”

“I know by now that Bakugo can be a lot to deal with” Momo giggled. “And I think it’s great that you boys are cleaning the beach while benefiting out of it”

“Arent we smart? “Sora beamed with pride.

“It was my suggestion ” Shino deadpanned. “Anyway, what do you three plan on doing? ”

“Training of course. We’ll clean the beach and in turn boost our strength! These things are heavy”

“Are they?” Shino and Sora questioned at the same time.

Izuku looked at them blankly. “Of course the two of you wouldn’t think so”

“Ah, well I’ll be taking my leave then”

“Don’t you want to train with us?”

“Not today”

After saying their goodbyes Shino and Momo left the beach. Momo’s house wasn’t all that far from the beach and from there Shino would make her way home. She had her own transportation after all. She had successfully trained her webs until she could pull more than twice her weight. Once that was achieved she tried her hand at webbing through the city.

Yeah her first time ended in her crashing into multiple buildings.

She would web her way back to Momo’s house, but Momo was absolutely terrified of that mode of transportation. The feel of falling through the sky was terrifying to her. It didn’t matter how many times Shino reassured her of her safety. Momo absolutely hated it.

“Momo are you still afraid of-”

“Yes”

“Ok” Shino stuffed her hands in her pocket and stiffled a yawn. She was sleepy, as always. “We could still-”

“No”

“But-”

“No”

Shino groaned. “Momo, come on. I promise you I will not drop you and my web will not break. You should know me well enough by now. I never break a promise”

“No. It’s terrifying when you free fall”

“I’ll try not to do it too much and make the trip very smooth and stress free. All you have to do is hold onto me” Shino promised. “Hey that rhymed”

Momo looked at her friend of four years. Shino only smiled sincerely and waited patiently.

“Fine, this once”

“You will not regret it” Shino beamed as she wrapped an arm around Momo’s waist, pulling her close. She aimed a hand at a nearby building and with the flick of her wrist a string of web shot forward and attached itself to the building.

“Ready? ”

Momo wrapped her arms around her and held on tightly.

“No, but it’s best we get this over with ”

Shino hummed in agreement before pulling them forward.

Just like that they were sent shooting through the sky.

Shino felt Momo’s grip on her tighten and tried her best not to frighten her. She held onto her securely and was confident she wouldn’t even slip.

Shino dispatched her web when she was high enough and was left free falling from the sky. Momo let out a yelp and buried her face in the crook of Shino’s neck. Shino didn’t let them fall for long and shot a web at the closest building and pulled, sending them through the sky again.

“Momo, calm down”

“I can’t ”

“Take a deep breath and release it slowly. Don’t bury your face in my neck. Take a look at your surroundings. Once you see how beautiful it is I’m sure your fear will fade”

Momo mumbled something, but took Shino’s advice. She took a deep calming breath and dared to open her eyes.

The blue sky filled her vision. The clouds drifted idly away and allowed the sun it’s glory. Beneath them was the bustling city. Seeing it from the new height was breathtaking. She wondered what it would look like during the night.

“Pretty cool, huh? It’s even better in the night”

“It is”

“See. You’re not afraid anymore right? ”

“I still am, just a little bit, but it’s better”

“That’s good news to me”

They spent less than ten minutes in the sky before arriving at the Yaoyorozu estate. Shino landed swiftly in front of the door and pressed the door bell. Within seconds there was a butler at the door and the two were welcomed in.

“Welcome back you two”

“Good day Mrs. Yaoyorozu”

“Good day to you as well Shino. Thank you for accompanying Momo back home”

“It was my pleasure”

“Are you staying?” Momo asked as they made their way up the stairs towards her room.

“Nah” Shino face planted into Momo’s bed. “Dad promised to help me train today and I’m keeping him to that. We only have ten months until the UA exams after all”

Momo hummed and climbed into bed next to Shino.

“Even though we’re recommend we still have to go through a series of tests”

“Everyone needs to be tested or it wouldn’t be fair. The only difference is that recommend students get a different written and physical exam along with an interview ”

“An interview? ”

“Yup”

“How do you know that?”

“I know a couple of people who work there”

“Should you know that?”

Shino only shrugged in reply. “Who knows”

“You do”

“Maybe”

Momo sighed and buried her face in her pillow. “I hope I get eccepted”

“You will”

“You don’t know that”

“I do”

“No you don’t”

“Yes I do”

“Oh yeah? Then how do you know? ”

“Because you’re amazing. You have genius intellect. You can skillfully wield any weapon. Your hand to hand combat is very impressive. You’re very flexible and versatile. And you can come up with a strategy for any situation” Shino listed down all the amazing feats of Momo. “The fact that you’re recommend means that you’re skilled enough to be eccepted”

Momo was quiet for some time, but a small smile grew on her face.

“You’re a lot more impressive you know ”

Shino chuckled. “I doubt it”

Momo hummed and turned to face her. She stared at her for some timed before scooting closer and burying her face in her chest.

“Thanks”

“No thanks needed” Shino ran a hand through her hair with a smile. “You need to build up some confidence. You’re amazing and you should start believing that”

“You say that all the time”

“Because it’s true. You say I’m a lot more impressive and you can keep up with me, hell you almost beat me once. So that naturally makes you strong, doesn it? ”

“I suppose”

“That’s good enough for now I guess ” Shino sighed. It was very hard to get Momo to believe in herself. This was a far as she could get and she would work on it more in the future.

“Are you sure you can’t stay? “Momo mumbled.

“I never said I couldn’t stay. I said I had a training sesh with dad today”

“So you can stay? ”

“Yes I can if I want to”

“Then stay”

“But training”

“You can train with me”

“OK how about this. I’ll go home train a little bit and come over later to spend the night” Shino bargained. It was pretty reasonable. It was still early in the day so she could go have a little match with her father and return.

“That’s fine”

“Great. Then I should get going” Shino wiggled out of Momo’s grip and saluted as she headed towards the window

“Don’t go through the window” Momo warned from her spot on the bed.

“What? Why not? ”

“It’s not very proper and you should say goodbye to my parents before you leave” Momo told her as she rolled over on her bed.

Shino stared at the window before looking at Momo and then at the window again. She finally relucted and headed towards the door instead.

“I guess you’re right. I’ll be back in a while”

Shino left the room and made her way down the stairs. Once in the living room she said her goodbyes to Mr. Yaoyorozu and traveled into the kitchen to do the same with Mrs. Yaoyorozu. She told them that she would be back in a while due to a promise to Momo.

Five minutes shooting through the sky brought Shino to her house.

“Good day Kinji, Kina. Are my parents home? ”

“Good day young master”

“Welcome back Shino. Your father has returned for the day but your mother is still out on the job”

“Yes, your father can be found in his study”

“Thank you both for the update”

Shino stopped by the kitchen on the way to her father’s study. She was delighted to find a full chocolate cake in the refrigerator. She got herself a slice and continued her journey up the stairs.

Arriving at the study she knocked once before stepping in. Her father was seated at his desk watching something on his laptop.

“Hey dad”

“Hello Shino, welcome back”

“Its good to be back”

“I thought for sure you would spend the night at the Yaoyorozu estate ”

“Momo convinced me to. But first I have a promised match with my father if my memory serves me right”

Shiro chuckled nervously at that. “You remembered”

“Yes I did”

“I guess I have no choice. You know the rules”

“I must only use one quirk and it must be one I have mastered to some degree”

“Good to know” Shiro stood from his desk. “Well let us see who shall be the victor this time “
