To Be A Hero: A Mha Fanfic - Volume 1 Chapter 4
Shino was staring at her food unable to eat it. It looked delicious. It probably was. Her mother always made the best Mac and cheese and she loves Mac and cheese. But she couldn’t eat. She just wasn’t feeling it. She wasn’t feeling good at all. Ever since she woke up in the morning she wasn’t feeling like herself. Her head and throat hurt and she felt as if all her energy had been drained. Was she catching a cold? She hasn’t caught one since she entered this new world. She was perfectly healthy for years. It didn’t feel like a cold though. She was hungry but the longer she looked at the food the faster her want to eat it deminished. Her headache never faded and only increased in intensity. She rubbed her temples and sighed as she got out her seat at the table.
“Are you ok, young master? ”
“Yeah, I’m just not hungry Kinji”
“Should I call your parents? ”
“No, no. They’re at work. I don’t want to disturb them. I’ll just go lie down for a while”
Climbing up the stairs was a lot more straining than usual. Her feet felt like jellow when she crashed onto her bed. She sighed as she properly pulled herself into her soft sheets and rolled herself into them. Her head still hurt. It felt as if someone just bashed her head into an iron wall. She groaned and curled in on herself. Maybe she just needed some sleep. Sleep always solves such problems. Hopefully she would feel a bit better when she awoke.
She wasn’t aware of how long she had been asleep. She woke up to the feel of someone running a hand through her hair. She slowly opened her eyes to meet the rose gold of her mother. She looked worried and was dressed in her hero suit. She smiled slightly when Shino looked at her.
Shino made a move to get up but her body was too weak for movement. The pain in her head had increased ten fold and it was becoming hard to keep her eyes open. She saw her mother’s lips move, but her words sounded muffled. Shino wanted to say something but no words would leave her throat. Her head hurt too much and the effort to keep her eyes open was too much. The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was the scared look on her mother’s face as she yelled incoherent words.
This was not how she saw her day going.
There was a constant beeping noise filling her ears when she regained her consciousness. The sound was familiar and yet she couldn’t place it. She slowly opened her eyes and met white ceilings. She blinked to clear her blurred vision. She looked to her side and found the source of the beeping noise. It was a cardiogram. She followed the tubes coming out of it. She looked at her arm and saw the tubes connected to her. It felt odd. She sighed when she realized she was in a hospital. Something must really be wrong. She still had a headache although it wasn’t as painful anymore.
“What is going on? ”
She rubbed her temples and looked around for the red button that’s placed in each room. She found it, pushed the button and just waited. That beeping next to her was starting to annoy her. Why was it so loud? Her headache was returning with each beep of the machine. She groaned and glared at the machine as if it was her worst enemy. At that moment it really was.
The sound of the door opening made her tear her attention away from the machine. In stepped a man clad in all white. Following behind him were her very worried parents. She smiled upon seeing them and did not resist the hug she was pulled into.
“We’re so glad you’re okay”
“What happened? ”
“You fell unconscious and entered an atonic seizure” the doctor informed as he wrote something down.
“I went through a generalized seizure? That means my brain practically shut down. Why did that happen? ”
The doctor seemed impressed for a moment. “I’m surprised you know that”
“Perks of being homeschooled I guess”Shino shrugged and rubbed her temples again. “Is it just me or is that machine too loud? I must just be me. Either way can someone turn it off? I’m starting to get a headache again”
“I can’t do that”
“I figured. ”
“Doctor can you explain what’s wrong with her? ”
“Well Mrs. Kiddo it appears your daughter is showing abnormal brain activity. It seems that she is somehow using one hundred percent of her brain, or she was. That is what caused the seizure and the headache I presume ”
“So um… I can use one hundred percent of my brain? That sounds cool, dangerous but cool”
“I did a multitude of test the second young Shino arrived here and should be getting the results soon. I think the cause of this may be the development of a quirk”
Shino perked up when she heard that. She might have developed a quirk? She wondered what it was? Being able to use one hundred percent of her brain could be the quirk. It’s very painful.
“Here have a lollipop ”
She took the offered treat happily.
“You were feeling very weak today weren’t you? ”
“Yup”
“It’s because of the activity of your brain and body. You need a regular intake of sugar to prevent major drawbacks”
“What do you mean when you say “activity of my body”? I thought my brain was the only problem ”
“No your body has also shown abnormal activity. You’re producing cells a lot faster than you should”
“What type of cells”
“I haven’t identified that yet. It will be in the test results”
“But Shino’s going to be ok, right? “Nico asked as she stroked the silver hair on Shino’s head.
“Yes as long as she consumes the needed amount of sugar”
“Huh, look at that. Candy is actually good for you” Shiro joked.
Shino snickered. “Ha, now I can have all the chocolate I want”
There came a knock at the door and soon a nurse entered with some doc.u.ments that were quickly handed over to the doctor. He fixed his glasses as he quickly read through them and widened his eyes in shock.
“What’s up doc? ”
“It seems your body is producing a large amount of stem cells rather quickly. This is odd, but it could prove benefits. As we know Before a cell becomes specialised, it first starts out as a stem cell. The unique feature of stem cells is that they are pluripotent – they have the potential to become any type of cell in the body. These incredible cells are the ancestors of all cells in the body, from simple skin cells to complex neurons. Without these cells, we wouldn’t be as complex or functional as human beings. In this day and age they are also responsible for shaping the cells that give us our quirks”
“Ooookay”
“What’s more these stem cells of yours are somehow stripped of their immune features and can’t trigger rejection”
“Are you serious? “Shino couldn’t believe what the doctor was saying. Stem cells have the ability to replicate and replace old cells or disfunctional ones. If an organ is injured it is the stem cells that could restore it, but stem cells are usually rejected by the body most likely due to it’s immune features. “I have super regeneration! ”
“Maybe”the doctor continued to read through the doc.u.ments. “It appears that you do have a quirk, but as it is right now we do not know what it is”
“I suggest you three go home. Shino is fine. If she starts to experience any type of pain or headache make sure she consumes something sweet. If she shows any more odd signs do not hesitate to contact me”
“Thank you doctor ”
“You’re welcome Shiro”
And so the family of three did as the doctor
suggested and returned home.
Shino was strapped into her car seat and given another lollipop to suck on. She always complained about the car seat. It made her feel like a little kid even though that’s what she was. Sadly the seat was a must until she turned six so she had to deal with it.
Once home Shino made her way to the kitchen and got herself a nice piece of chocolate cake. She had a huge grin on her face knowing there was nothing her parents could do or say to stop her from eating her favorite treat.
“That is a big piece of cake you have there young lady” Nico eyed the cake in Shino’s tiny hands.
“Oh yeah I’m gonna enjoy eating it”
Nico sighed as she watched her daughter happily dive into her cake. She seemed fine for now. Hopefully nothing too serious happens any time soon.
