To Be A Hero: A Mha Fanfic - Volume 1 Chapter 50
Shino pulled off her respirator as the last of the flames were extinguished by a pro hero. Momo had managed to contact the higher ups while Shino had evacuated the building of any human beings. She felt pretty good. She got everyone out safe. What luck. She made sure to stick around and help with anything needed. She cleared the road of any rubble. Helped the heroes use the fire hydrant. Made sure everyone had a respirator and cool blanket. All in all she was a good assist. She also stuck around in hopes of finding the parents of the kids she had rescued. No one came to get them. She was left wondering.
“Yui, do you have any idea where your parents are? ”
The girl looked away sadly as she fidled with her dress. Shino could immediately tell something was wrong. Ryuu stood with folded arms and glared at nothing in particular. Shino sighed as she got down to their heights.
“What is it Yui? ”
“Nothing”
“Something’s bothering you. I can tell” Shino tapped her forehead with a small smile. “Come now you can tell me”
“We’re orphans. The couple that adopted us aren’t really the best of parents. They left this morning and we haven’t seen them since” Yui admitted. She refused to meet Shino’s eyes as she kept her eyes to the ground. She continued to nervously play with her dress. She didn’t want to tell her. She knew that if she did they would end up in the orphanage again and be adopted by the same set of uncaring people. All they wanted was the money. And they would be separated. They said so. She wouldn’t be able to see her brothers and sister again. And yet she told her. Shino was being so nice to her. Maybe she would do something.
“Why did you tell her!? You know what will happen ” Ryuu exclaimed angrily. He would’ve kept his mouth shut. He wouldn’t allow it. He would not be separated from his siblings. He had to protect them. If he didn’t no one will. The world wasn’t all hearts and roses. That’s something he learned at a young age.
“I see” Shino’s expression was unreadable. She tugged on her scarf as she seemed in thought . In all honesty she was pissed. People could really be fickle creatures. To think they would just leave the kids alone for a full day. “Have you eaten? ”
Yui shook her head no.
Shino frowned. If she hasn’t eaten then none of them had. That includes the baby. She gripped her fist as she tried to control her emotions. To tame her anger. She could not get too angry. She felt the fire within her flicker and start to grow. Why do people have to be like that? Why do they have t treat each other like dirt? Why do they hate and belittle? The human greed is what is robbing children of good homes. Parents that could care less.
Momo noticed the struggle within Shino. She was angry. She never allowed herself to get too angry. She always calmed herself before the fire could rise. Momo didn’t know why but if Shino was trying so hard to repress the emotion she must have a reason. At the moment she was trying her hardest. Momo reacted instinctively and pressed a affectionate hand on Shino’s shoulder. The girl tensed before relaxing and exhaling slowly.
“Are you alright? ”
Shino nodded as she released her fist. She sighed again and buried some of the anger.
“Their orphans and their adopted parents left them alone all day. They haven’t even eaten”
While her voice may sound calm Momo knew better. She kept her hand on her shoulder and squeezed softly. She could understand why Shino was so quickly angered. She herself could feel the familiar emotion present itself. How could they do such a thing?
Shino reached into one of her pouches and retrieved four chocolate bars. She smiled slightly and handed them one each. She looked at the baby for a while. She had some chocolate milk on her. She wondered if he was allowed to dink such a thing. He was very young. Only a couple of months. He was honestly very adorable. He was awake and bright eyed. Green eyes glimmering with innocence. He was surprisingly quiet.
“Momo, do you think he can have chocolate milk? ”
“I’m not sure. He seems old enough and chocolate milk is still milk”
Shino sighed. The four older children were greatful for the chocolate bar they had received. It wasn’t a full course meal, but it was still something. It should calm their stomachs for the moment.
“Thank you” Yuri spoke gratefully.
Shino only smiled and patted her head. “Don’t thank me kiddo”
“So what now? You’ll hand us over to the orphanage, won’t you? ” Ryuu asked with disdain.
“If I send you back you could end up in the same situation” Shino said thoughtfully. She wasn’t going to send them back. Not at all. She thought about it. Her house was big enough. There was enough space. There was still the room she used to play in. Plus her house has an impressive amount of bedrooms. “You can stay with me. I doubt mom and dad would mind. In fact I think they would be more than happy to take you in when the situation is explained ” Shino smiled brightly. “Besides, I Always wondered what it would be like to have younger siblings ”
Ryuu had a shocked look on his face. That’s a first. Such a suggestion had never been made. They had always been sent back to the orphanage. Back to the life they wished to escape. Back to the people who supposedly cared. He looked at Shino. Into her rose gold eyes. He didn’t trust her. He didn’t want trust her. She doesn’t know them and they don’t know him. You can’t trust someone you just met even if they saved your life.
But the longer he looked into those eyes the harder it was not to trust her. Those eyes revealed nothing but sincere kindness. She meant what she said. Word for word.
“Do you mean that? ” he asked quietly.
Shino nodded. “Yup, sure do. You don’t have to worry about a thing. I’ll take care of everything. You’ll have your own room. Some new clothes and toys. Lots of treats if you’ve been good of course” Shino chuckled at the end. Her anger had completely diminished at that point.
There was a familiar roar in the distance. The heroes around them took position, ready to protect the civilians. Another Nomu decided to reveal itself.
The children shrunk back in fear and Shino glared at the creature.
“Hold onto each other ” she ordered them. They immediately did as told. Shino then placed a hand on Ryuu’s shoulder and focused on her house. “I’ll be right back Momo”
And she was gone. No one noticed her teleportation.
Momo stared at the empty spot before a roar pulled her out of it. The heroes were already trying to fight off the Nomu, but it was too strong and too fast. She hadnhadn’t been noticed.
Moving quick she started to create a gun. A familiar gun. One Shino so easily revealed in her Yaoyotab. It was created to fire the small devices she made to find off the Nomu. Momo was still curious to know what the small thing did. It was strong enough to completely immobilize a Nomu. A creature that was created to take down All Might. Whatever Shino programmed it to do was impressive.
The gun was crafted and she wielded it expertly. She revealed the magazine and filled it with the tiny devices. Shino had an odd way of designing weapons. The gun was shaped and looked like an Uzi and fired like a sniper rifle. For some reason it made Shino smile in amus.e.m.e.nt.
Dismissing the thought, Momo took aim at the Nomu present. Her presence was still unnoticed. With the assist of the scope she got a clear and unobstructed view of the Nomu’s neck. With the pull of the trigger the small device, now bullet, was sent flying straight towards the target.
“Bullseye! ”
Momo jumped at the sound of Shino’s voice behind her. She abruptly twisted around to see a smiling Shino behind her.
“Please don’t do that”
Shino chuckled as she approached the other. “Now, you know I will do no such thing ”
Momo smiled at that, despite herself. “Where are the kids?”
“My house” Shino answered as her goggles was reverted to her visor and she brought up her video feeds. She focused on the one recording the fight against Stain. The boys were holding their own, but could always use a bit of help. She wasn’t far from them. It would take her less than a minute to arrive to the scene.
“The boys are in need of my help” Shino informed as she pulled Momo towards her and used a web to pull them into the sky. “I’ll bring you to assist Missprint and Ren. They’re in need of help and you have the needed tech to take down the Nomu”
“I have a feeling you’re bringing me there to keep me safe from wherever you’re going” Momo said suspiciously.
Shino smiled innocently. “Yes and no. Yes I do wish to protect you and I find it better you not come with me, but you’re really needed”
“If you say so” Momo sighed. “Where are you going anyway? ”
“Iida went after Stain so I sent the boys to go help and protect him”
“You’re going towards Stain? ”
“Yes”
“Shino”
“What? ”
Momo gave her a familiar look and she looked away feeling a bit guilty for some reason.
“As strong as you are you’re also very reckless and ignore your health”
“I know” Shino landed them on a secluded road. She peeked around a corer and spotted the ink hero and intern.
“I’ll be careful ” She pecked Momo on the lips as she turned to leave. “I made a promise, didn’t I? ”
Befor she could leave she was pulled back by her scarf. She twisted around and met Momo in a kiss. She m.o.a.ned happily and returned the kiss.
Momo was seeking reassurance. She could tell in the way she gripped her scarf tightly. In the way she wavered to break apart. Shino was hesitating as well, but all good things must come to an end. They each had things to do. And it was urgent.
With a gentle nibble to Momo’s bottom lip Shino pulled away. She placed a soft kiss on her neck before nuzzling her in a hug.
“I promise to be careful. So please don’t worry”
