To Be or Not To Be A Family - Chapter 96
Her life was destroyed because of a selfish man because Young-Jae played God in her life. He snatched a very important person from her life. Now, her mother was doing the same. She just wanted Young-Soo back in her life. She was not thinking about Bong-Cha or Baek-Hyeon or anyone else. What would they feel if someone snatched their father at this age?
She never knew her father and her mother was doing the same to two other children. The two innocent people will feel what she has been feeling her whole life. She shivered after thinking about the scandal that would happen if something like that gets out in the world. A father abandoned his grown-up children after he abandoned his child when he was young. History repeated itself, would be the headline of the news.
Slowly she was getting concerned for all her family members. Her mumma, her half-sister, her half-brother. She was even concerned for Young-Jae. What if gets another heart attack? Getting a heart attack that too a second one, and at his age could prove to be fatal.
All these thoughts in her brain were not letting her sleep. She tossed and turned and kept thinking. She missed her nanaji even more now. She wanted his wisdom to deal with this situation. But she didn’t want to tell him how cunning his daughter became.
Finally, she jumped out of her bed and decided to get some fresh air. On the way, she peeked into Vidhi’s room. To her shock, she was not on her bed. Ashma panicked. Was she with Young-Soo? Did she already leave for India? No that cannot be. She was not ready to return so why would she do that on her own. Ashma ran downstairs towards Young-Soo’s room.
She touched the door, it was open. She peeped inside the room, only Eun-Kyung was sleeping on the bed. Her heart leapt out of her chest with fear. What if they were planning to leave Eun-Kyung together. If something like that happens she will never forget her mother and Young-Soo.
She ran towards the terrace immediately. She didn’t want Young-Soo to make any wrong decision. She had to reach them as soon as possible to stop them from making the wrong choice.
She reached the terrace in night light as soon as her feet took her. She ran so fast that her bun opened and her long hair was free-flowing. She was panting loudly. She could hear the sounds of Vidhi and Young-Soo coming out of the terrace. Vidhi was clearly crying. She decided to hear their conversation before interrupting them.
“You have to choose,” cried Vidhi. Ashma slightly opened the door of the terrace and looked at them. Both were facing each other. Young-Soo’s face was distraught and Vidhi’s face was red with crying. Two clear lines of tears were drawn on her face. She didn’t even try to wipe her tears, she let them fall on the ground.
“Don’t make me say it,” said Young-Soo, politely.
“Please don’t this to me,” sobbed Vidhi.
“I am sorry, Vidhi if I ever gave you a false impression. I just wanted to help my friend who came to see me because she heard that I was dying,” pleaded Young-Soo.
“But that means you love me,” begged Vidhi.
“There was a time I loved you after you came here, my heart has been trying to break free but…” A tear dropped from Young-Soo’s eyes.
“But what?” Vidhi got her hope up.
“But that Young-soo who was in love with you is dead. I held you, I hugged you, I kissed your forehead as a friend. Have you noticed that whenever I touched you or picked you up was because you were in trouble, you were sad, our daughter ran away, you fainted, all these reasons were the things that made me touch you, else I never even stood near you,” explained Young-Soo.
“Please don’t say that. Look me in the eyes and then tell me you don’t love me,” pleaded Vidhi. Tears were falling from her eyes, non-stop.
“I told you if I had to choose between you and Eun-Kyung, I will always choose her,” informed Young-Soo.
“But I love you,” Vidhi broke down. She grabbed his collar and lowered her head with sadness.
Young-Soo grabbed her hand and removed it from his shirt. “I love her,” he said.
“No, you love me,” Vidhi slapped him hard with her right hand. Her cast shook his cheek, his ear to their core. He moved his hand on his cheek to ease his pain. He understood that her hand was capable of full-motion but said nothing, instead, he focused on the conversation they were having.
“I used to but now I have a family. Have you thought about my kids?” scolded Young-Soo.
“Have you thought about Ashma?” shouted Vidhi. “She too is your kid.”
“Do you want to treat my other kids the way I treated her? I will always regret not being in her life. I was a coward at that time, I should have fought my dad. I should have brought him to India with me, but I chose him before you and my daughter, now I don’t want to leave my family for you and my daughter,” reprimanded Young-Soo.
“But your daughter needs you,” pleaded Vidhi. She joined her hands in namaste and begged him to choose her.
“She hates me, she will never need me. You killed me when you lied to her that I died. If you would have told her the truth, she would have hated me for a few years but tried to reconcile with me and now she wants absolutely nothing to do with me. Do have any idea how rude and harsh she is always with me and if I leave her mumma what will she do to me?” educated Young-Soo.
“I hate her, I hate Eun-Kyung, she snatched my love, she snatched my daughter. She has everything that was supposed to be mine,” chided Vidhi. For the first time in their conversation, she wiped her tears and looked at Young-Soo in anger.
“That’s not true. People love her because she thinks about them before thinking about herself. That’s why everyone loves her,” snapped Young-Soo. “She decided to marry me because she wanted me to be free even though she knew that I would divorce her. She searched for you for years even though she knew that she might lose me. She was the one who decided to be in Ashma’s life. She is her fairy godmother. My daughter is close to my wife and not me, which should tell you about Eun-Kyung. Our daughter loves her more than us, that should tell you about Eun-Kyung. She left her job and decided to be a house-wife so that my father would give me a part of his business, that should tell you about Eun-Kyung,” barked Young-Soo.
“But I love you, I have always loved you,” pleaded Vidhi. Her tears again started flowing out of her eyes.
Ashma tried hard to control her tears. She couldn’t decide whose side she was on. On one side there was her mother, whose happiness was snatched by other people. One side was her father who had another family and now he had to decide which family to chose. Her dilemma was with the third party involved, Eun-Kyung, whom she loved with her everything. She knew about no one else, but she wanted Eun-Kyung to win, which ultimately would mean that she wanted to father to chose Eun-Kyung and not Vidhi.
“Vidhi! Please don’t make me say things that I don’t want to,” chided Young-Soo.
“She was never your love,” said Vidhi.
“But she gave her whole life to me. She deserves more than my love. She deserves my respect, my whole life,” said Young-Soo.
“What about our love?” snapped Vidhi.
“As I said, it was ages ago, forget me, Vidhi and forgive me. I hope my daughter will forgive me one day. I was never a good son, a good lover, a good father, and if I chose you now, I will never be able to become a good husband either. I want to at least be good in maintaining one relationship, don’t destroy that for me,” begged young-Soo.
“But I love you, I love you,” begged Vidhi. She fell to her knees, grabbed his feet and cried loudly.
“I don’t. I am sorry,” said Young-Soo and jerked his legs away. He wanted to pick Vidhi up but decided to leave her alone. He walked away. He opened the door and to his shock walked into Ashma.
He gasped loudly at her sight. Tears were flowing down her cheeks but she smiled at him. For the first time in days, she smiled at him. Even the times she talked politely to him she rarely smiled. After last night when she was harsh and rude and said some things, her behaviour was different.
He thought she would be angry at him for rejecting his mother and making her cry. He wanted to tell her that she was faking her broken arm. Her slap proved that to him. Little did he know that she already knew that.
He wanted to explain everything to her. Why did he abandon her? What happened all those years ago? But he knew that Eun-Kyung already told her. He saw them talking outside after he ran behind her when she ran in anger. Eun-Kyung told him that she told her everything about why and what happened all those years ago.
Even at the dinner when she didn’t speak a word he was concerned that she was still angry with him but her expression was telling him something different.. He wanted to tell her and go take care of her mother but he couldn’t speak.
