Trapped In Time - Chapter 33
Mono told the group that the Orbs wanted their help in destroying the Time Machines in all the three towns. They also wanted the help of the group to overthrow the ‘Administrator’ and his band of evil council members. In turn, the Orbs will help to keep everyone invisible by stopping time for them.
“We do not belong to this area, how can we destroy things and overthrow a Government? You need a lot of people to do that,” said Luke. “Furthermore, can you not see that our group comprises of 3 adults only, the rest are all children.
Zia said, “the entire plan seems preposterous. None of us can execute this proposal.”
Sherpa, not to be left behind took the cue from Luke and said, “We are outsiders. What you plan to do is a coup. If we support you or help you do this we can be hauled by your people and tried as per your laws. How can we participate?”
“If you want the take down a government you need to do things yourself,” Sherpa added.
Listening to the adults from the group, Mono understood their apprehensions. He told them that their presence only is needed support. Actual work would be done by him. The Orbs would be providing a cover or a camouflage so that no one knows until the evil guys are apprehended. The cover will be in the form of a cloud that will make us invisible and we would not be visible to anyone. The Orbs would move with them by surrounding them.
In order to demonstrate their commitment, the 75 Orbs of the scientists immediately surrounded them. It was as if a beautiful necklace made of 75 blobs of light was surrounding them by hovering just near the middle of their frames. The light emitted by the 75 blobs of light engulfed them within its embrace. They all felt a sense of well-being and being immensely love.
Everyone was taken by surprise by this show of affection by the 75 blobs of light. They could also feel that the story that the Orbs had conveyed to Mono was true. There was nothing false about it.
They all realized that the society here initially comprised of the best brains from the entire world. They had come together 250 years ago to build an Utopia, (a name for an ideal community or society, taken from the title of a book written in 1516 by Sir Thomas More). There were initially 100 families which were divided into 25 for each of the 5 towns. The towns were separate lives, having their local administration. They sent their representative to the main Council at our head town. So towns were named ‘Town I’, ‘Town J’, ‘Town K’, ‘Town L’ and ‘Town M’. We are in ‘Town M’ which is the biggest and the most developed. The representatives from the other three Towns and our own Town M send their representatives @ 2 each to the council which is headed by the ‘Administrator’. This is like the country having state governments who rule the states but they sent representatives to the Central Government where things have to be seen from the holistic perspective. These representatives chose the Administrator from among the 8 people and the post vacated is filled up by another representative of that town.
There used to be another town called’ ‘Town L’ which was abandoned and the reason for so doing was not known to the society here. It is still a mystery and no one lives there.
Their lives were going smoothly in their Utopia. They were allowed to go to the Cities above to gain knowledge and even get married to someone there. Men and women were allowed to do so. But something bad started happening about 80 years ago, their movements were restricted. They were not allowed to go to the cities above unless they could obtain special permission. Those who went were not allowed to get married outside. As a result, their gene pool got restricted and many genetic disorders started to develop. The non-scientific people could not understand or did not want to understand that intermarriage within the four towns had side effects as everyone ended up being related to someone or the other. Lethal genes, suppressed genes started showing up and many people were born with deformities, brain issues, etc.
The most recent Orbs were of Mono’s grandfather and his son. Mono’s grandfather’s name was Juan. He was the last person to visit the City above. He managed to acquire knowledge and got married but he was not allowed to bring his wife back to this society. After the death of Juan’s wife, he came back with his son, Echo, Echo like his father became a scientist and they both worked to operationalize the Time Machine. Echo got married to Lisa from Town I and they had a son Mono, who in turn grew up to become a scientist. Mono’s mother, Lisa went back to her town I after her husband’s death to carry on with her work on her farm.
The Administrator was not a good person. He had nefarious designs and the scientists were fed up of his obsession with the Time Machine experiment. He had continued with the policies of the previous Administrators but he was becoming more and more difficult. He had turned into a dictator. Utopia was no longer an Utopia but its citizens had become like the depressed citizens of Germany under Hitler.
His cruelty knew no boundaries. His spies had infiltrated everywhere. He wanted the time machine to be developed fast. The work on the Time Machine had begun about 70 years ago. At that time there were a few scientists who supported the Administrator and had suggested using the brains of the scientists after their demise to be amalgamating with the brain of the deceased scientist with the huge brain that had worked hard and had been sacrificed for the project. Then, it became a rule that any scientist, who worked here, after his death, be cremated. But his brain would be surgically removed and amalgamated with the first brain of the time machine. In this way, 75 scientists were unwillingly sacrificed for this project. A project that none of them wanted to be successful.
The Orbs were trying to tell everyone via telepathy that no harm would come to them. All the physical work would be done by Mono. He had the power of 3-4 persons. He was like the biggest and best wrestler, The Great Khali from India who had taken the world of wrestlers by storm. Khali was only 7 feet 1 inch tall, but Mono was 7 feet and 7 inches tall. After their work was done, the trekkers would be sent to where ever they wanted through their wind tunnel. They used this system to travel to the city above to circumvent the Administrator’s restrictive laws.
This was a good thing. The group would not need to look for ways to get home and get delayed. But come to think of it today was the third day. They should be going home tomorrow, how could they manage everything?
