Trash Techniques Are Actually Pretty Efficient - Volume 1 Chapter 52
Lan Xiang sprang up, his eyes wide open. He could clearly remember that he had fallen asleep on the doorway due to his extreme fatigue.
“Why do I feel so comfortable?”
He looked around and realized that he was in his room. Beside him was Xie Jian, who was sleeping soundly while sitting.
“Ah, I was lying on her lap the whole time?”
Lan Xiang adjusted Xie Jian’s position and put a blanket over her. He glanced outside the window, where there were traces of sunlight piercing through.
“It’s morning already. What did I plan to do last night…? Oh yeah, I should make a Talent Improvement Technique!”
At first, Lan Xiang considered pills, but scrapped the idea quickly. He knew that there was no pill that could just improve talent, that would be too easy and stupid. If there was such a pill, all the families, even the major ones, would be going crazy for it.
Because of the lack of news pertaining to it, he was sure that it didn’t exist, well, unless all the families suppressed the news about its creation. Even then, he should have heard about it from Xie Jian.
He could try to make one himself, but he had no experience making pill recipes. He didn’t want to waste one of his self-made techniques to make a pill recipe that had a possibility of not working.
He grabbed a pen and paper and started writing.
Talent Improvement Manual…
“Hmm…” Lan Xiang thought long and hard.
What exactly determined talent in this world? Well, even he, who had little to no knowledge of the cultivation world, knew the answer.
Simply put, there were two factors.
The first one would be the structure of the pathways, whether it be complicated or straightforward. This determined the simplicity of cultivating and executing techniques. After all, the stronger a technique got, the more confusing it was to cultivate and practice. It would help to have a uniform structure.
At this point, Lan Xiang was already familiar with his physique. “Compared to other pathway structures I’ve seen, mine is definitely labyrinthian.”
He recalled Xie Gang’s meridian pathways and while they confounded him for a bit, it was nothing compared to his own. Lan Xiang noted it down. “I must make my pathways somehow simpler.”
The second was the wideness of the pathways. This determined the potential qi circulation throughout the body, from absorption to release.
Lan Xiang had no basis right now to gauge the wideness of his own pathways, but what did know was that this was one of the reasons why his father disallowed him from entering the library, lest he ended up hospitalized from burst pathways.
“In that case, I should write something about expanding my meridians.”
Soon, Lan Xiang finished writing gibberish on the paper.

“???” Lan Xiang.
Warning: Host can only make a total of THREE (3) more techniques by themself. Please achieve more milestones to increase the limit!
The warning pulled Lan Xiang back into reality. He looked at the stats for the Talent Improvement Manual once more.
“What the hell is this? The stats are more unintelligible than the actual manual! What’s more, it’s blank level, and yet, it needs a thousand tech points to upgrade!”
Lan Xiang scratched his head. Seems like he had just touched upon a bug within the system. Or maybe, it was his manual that was the bug.
“Hah, what a waste… A waste of both my time and system slots!”
Frustrated at the outcome, Lan Xiang took a look at the paper he painstakingly filled with nonsense and tore it into two. He opened a “portal” and slid the two pieces inside.
After a long and cold shower, he bid goodbye to Xie Jian and headed to school.
He tried to open the system again, only to find a prompt.
[The system has unexpectedly shut down. Please wait…]
“It’s not upgrading? Instead, it’s shut down, like a blue screen on a computer.”
Lan Xiang became anxious. What if he had completely destroyed the system with that sh*tty technique of his? What would he do then?
He would have to work with what he had acc.u.mulated so far.
“Hm, on second thought, it wouldn’t be that bad.”
Although it would be a pity to lose the system, he had already gathered a pile of overpowered books in his arsenal.
When he arrived at school, the system was available once more.
“Notice: Host has been penalized for shutting the system down maliciously. Please take care not to do so again. Failure to comply might result in a ban. Strike 1/10.”
Lan Xiang scratched his head. “I really made a huge mistake this time.”
He checked the techniques he had in the system inventory. To his surprise, the Talent Cultivation Manual was still there.
“Weird. I thought the system would have gotten rid of it.”

“Ah, the system fixed it.” His earlier frustrations had now disappeared. He hadn’t wasted his time in the end!
Lan Xiang hurriedly upgraded it, only to be greeted by yet another prompt.
“Why’s there so many prompts today…”
Warning! Host is under the penalty “No advancements of techniques” for one (1) week.

“Oh, right. I was penalized after all.” Lan Xiang found the punishment dished out by the system reasonable. “Besides, I have no need for the upgrading function for the time being. I need to focus on raising my mastery of the techniques I have right now.”
With the matter of talent improvement shelved for the time being, Lan Xiang headed to class with a clear mind.
