Trash Techniques Are Actually Pretty Efficient - Volume 1 Chapter 53
The third and final day of the the final exams.
Baggy-eyed students had open notebooks full on their desks, hoping to absorb more knowledge at the last minute.
Of course, they knew that all of this was ultimately futile. The handwritten notes that they could hardly read entered through their eyesight and exited through their ears, with none left in their brains.
Their last hope—the final bastion protecting what little possibility they had of passing—was the fact that their proctor today could be Luo Zi Da, their class adviser.
If he was their proctor, then they had a chance at victory! After all, they had experienced the miracle that had happened in the first day of the exams.
As the students pointlessly read the lessons on their notebooks, the doorknob was turned from the other side.
Everyone froze. This was it, the factor that would determine whether they could pass or not! Who could their proctor be…?
Lan Xiang yawned as he entered the classroom. Even though he had a good night’s sleep, he still felt tired for some reason.
When he did a quick scan over the classroom, he only saw Ren Weiwei. The others had yet to arrive. Meanwhile, there was a sort of disappointed yet relieved aura exuding from his other classmates.
Well, none of my business. He shrugged his shoulders and walked to Ren Weiwei’s desk.
“Hm? Xiang, you’re early today. You usually arrive at the last minute or so.”
Lan Xiang rolled his eyes. “At least I don’t arrive late almost every day.”
Ren Weiwei pouted. She didn’t expect him to bring that up. “Hey, I’ve been good for the past two weeks! No lates since they day you came back.”
“That’s what you said last year.”
“…”
The pair continued their banter.
Meanwhile, a bespectacled student in an obscure corner read his notes diligently. He glanced upwards for a split second and he saw two humans, dressed in a student uniform much like his, yet they didn’t appear to be stressed? In the exam season??
When he saw Lan Xiang’s retarded expression, he realized. “He’s all relaxed since he knows he has no hope of passing this exam, and has therefore given up.”
When thinking of this, he sighed in relief, knowing that there were beings lower than him in the great hierarchy.
He raised his notebook to block the sight of such gross creatures, lest he become infected with their lackadaisical atmosphere.
Resupplied with confidence, the bespectacled student read his notes in peace once more… until two stray voices found their way into his ears.
“Have you watched ‘Re:Z*ro’ yet?”
“No, I haven’t had time to. Come to think of it, I’ve been too busy lately…”
Their noise interrupted the bespectacled student’s train of thought.
“Hm, it seems that reading it in my mind isn’t going to work. I have to read it aloud, at least to the extent that I myself can hear it…”
Adjusting himself, he spoke, as quiet as possible, “Evolution is change in the-”
“Well, no spoilers but, the protagonist dies a lot.”
“Ha? Isn’t that a huge spoiler though??”
“No worries, it happens in the first episode. Generally speaking, anything that happens in the first episode isn’t a spoiler.”
The bespectacled student bit his lip. He spoke a bit louder, “Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of-”
“If he dies in the first episode, what happens in the second? There’s no more protagonist?”
“You just complained about spoilers, and now you’re asking for some!”
“Well, you got me curious…”
The bespectacled student lowered his notebook slightly, glaring at Lan Xiang and Ren Weiwei. This time, he still restrained his voice, but it was closer to shouting than muttering. “Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations-”
“I shouldn’t be busy over the next week or so, I’ll watch it.” Other than refining pills at the capital and preparing for the tournament, I don’t have anything to do. Oh, I should take Jian’er out, we haven’t done that in a long time.
“Good. You’re finally watching it.” Ren Weiwei commended him. “I’ve been telling you about it for so long.”
“Don’t insist on it, else I might change my mind.”
Ren Weiwei turned pale. “Ah, okay, don’t threaten me with that-”
All of a sudden, the bespectacled student threw his notebook on his desk, shouting with all his might! “Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations!!!”
The whole class, including Ren Weiwei and Lan Xiang, slowly looked over to the obscure corner where the bespectacled student was seated.
He was panting and out of breath, standing up. His glasses were crooked and his hair was messy.
“…What happened to you, dude…” His seatmate was concerned. He’d long noticed that this glasses-wearing seatmate of his was chanting some kind of demon summoning incantation under his breath, but he pretended not to notice. What made him shout out loud?
“Well, it’s because I! Keep getting my thoughts messed up! By a trash!” The bespectacled student pointed at Lan Xiang. He obviously couldn’t blame Ren Weiwei, a genius and a beauty.
He adjusted his glasses before he crossed his arms, sitting down. Picking the notebook up again, the bespectacled student glanced at Lan Xiang with furious eyes as he resumed reading his notes.
Ren Weiwei scrunched her eyebrows. How unreasonable is this guy? To blame us for his incompetence?
Meanwhile, Lan Xiang didn’t really mind. He was used to being insulted, plus, he didn’t care about others’ opinions. Well, except if that “other” is Xie Jian, in which case he needed to care, whether he liked it or not…
After the bespectacled students’ outburst, Lan Xiang and Ren Weiwei’s voices decreased a tad bit. It was partially their fault for talking so loud after all.
Meanwhile, the other students silently agreed with the bespectacled student. To be honest, they were also being distracted by Lan Xiang’s mindless chatter. They were working hard, and a trash like Xiang dared to be noisy?
They found solace in the fact that he’s completely given up on himself, which was why he kept sleeping halfway through tests and relaxing instead of studying!
Before long, the door opened once more, Luo Zi Da coming in.
Seeing his face filled the students’ eyes with tears. The gods have answered our prayers! It’s really him!
They all shouted with joy, standing up in cheer!
The reaction of his class to his arrival pleasantly surprised Luo Zi Da. He was flattered. “Okay, okay, settle down.”
The students sat back down with a massive smile on their faces.
He entered the classroom with a stack of papers as expected. On his other arm, however, was an object unfamiliar to most of the students.
It was a stone cube full of cracks that spread around its uneven and rough surface.
“Don’t mind this thing, you’ll come to learn of it a little later. For now, I have something to discuss with you.” Luo Zi Da’s usual easygoing aura disappeared, replaced with a serious one.
