True Alpha’s Chosen Mate - Chapter 206
Meanwhile…
Ida was squatting down with her hands cupping her cheeks. Her eyes were squinting into mere slits, staring at the man slumped in the corner with his arms and feet bound.
“Hehe…” came out an evil giggle, making Edge, who was currently being restrained as per Hugo’s orders. “… so cute.”
Edge, whose self-confidence was built through the past three years, felt it crack very slowly. This woman… never left him, ever since she came into this tent. She would simply giggle from time to time, making him wonder what sort of evilness was filling her head.
“Are you hungry?” she inquired after some time of staring. “Everyone had left, so it’s just a few of us left in here.”
“What do you want from me?” asked Edge, grimacing at her slightly.
“You.”
“Ah?”
“Didn’t you ask what I want?” she frowned and snapped her tongue. “Don’t you really remember me? Three years ago? On my way to the capital for the mating season? You helped me?”
Ida pointed at her face, letting him look at her for him to remember. But alas…
“The hell? How would I remember you when I just helped a stranger?” He scrunched his nose up as he gazed at her face.
His reaction caused her frown to worsen. “But I remembered you!”
“Bowie! Take her away from here! Please!” Edge grumbled, yelling his lungs out, knowing Bowie was just right outside this tent, where he was bound and was not allowed to go out.
“That’s rude. You should thank me that you are not kept in a cage. Hugo is pissed with you, you know?”
“Scram!” he ground his teeth, eyes glinting with malice. “I don’t need your help. Whatever Alpha Hugo’s decision, you don’t have to intervene. You’re not his luna and ours.”
“I didn’t say I am, but I can be if not for Rinnie.” Ida raised a brow as his mood instantly changed at her last remarks.
She didn’t think about it much, but she had been noticing it. Edge’s emotions would get stir easily with Hugo’s name, but he would edge at the brink of madness once Rinnie’s name turn up.
“Do you… like your Alpha’s Luna?” She inquired cautiously, furrowing her brows as his expression changed in a split second. It was brief, but that question seemed to catch him off guard completely.
When her question registered in his head, his eyes glinted as his canines grew slightly. “Get out of here. You’re the reason she had suffered for years. If not for you, she wouldn’t have to go through all that!”
“How was that my fault?” She gasped, contradicting his increasing anger. “I simply attended the mating season because they forced me to. I just stood there, not garnering much attention, and fusing with the background. It’s not my fault my beauty failed me? And caught Hugo’s eyes.”
“You…!”
“Hey, you’re hating on the wrong person here. Rinnie’s sufferings aren’t my fault; it’s her husband’s. If only he can control himself that night, things would happen the way they did.” She shrugged nonchalantly, claiming zero responsibility for what happened between Hugo and Rinnie. “Instead, you should be grateful that even when I am His Grace’s mate, I want nothing from him.”
“If you want nothing from him, leave me alone!”
“Heh… Now I have.” The corners of her lips stretched into a smug grin, staring at him as if she was lovesick. “He’s right here.”
Edge felt a chill creep down his spine, dilating his eyes in horror. For reasons unknown, he felt like his security was being compromised. Although she had done nothing yet, he felt like she would… eventually.
“Don’t give me that look. I’m just a very simple person, you know? If I like someone, I like them.” She giggled, amused by the horror slowly dominating his face. “It just so happened I had fallen in love with you at first sight.”
“I reject you,” came out a dead voice, but as expected, his rejection did nothing.
“Aww… that’s sad.” She frowned before going through her pocket, lifting a beef jerky in front of her. “How about now? Do you like me?”
“Bowie!!” He yelped, almost panting in distress. “I am a werewolf, not a mere dog who gets bribed by a beef jerky!”
Ida pressed her lips into a thin line, waving the beef jerky in front of them. “It’s really good.”
“Oh, god! Please!” Edge breathed out in distraught, looking away as he couldn’t seem to get through her head.
Ida was crazy, for sure. She reeked of red flags. Even if Hugo accepted this woman as their Luna, there was no way the pack would be in better hands. On the second thought, she might actually fit perfectly with her personality.
“Goodness… it’s so hard to woo you,” she mumbled, clicking her tongue as she ate the beef jerky while standing up.
Edge thought she would finally leave as she marched away. However, Ida picked up a short rope lying just around and walked back to him.
Even before he could ask, there was this strong feeling she was up to something scary. He watched her every movement, flinching when she jumped and slumped down beside him.
“What are you…” his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as she tied the rope around her body.
“I will accompany you as a dutiful wife should be,” she remarked, nodding encouragingly before continuing in binding herself. “I will grow on you if I’m always there in the worst times. As they say, through good times and bad.”
“…” He was lost for words. Mitch had often told him in the past that Edge was the most stubborn person he had ever met with his negativity.
But now, Edge disagreed. Ida was the most stubborn person he had ever met in his life.
“If you’re thinking from a wife’s perspective… isn’t rational to untie me?” he inquired with almost a shaking voice, watching her pause and look up at him.
As soon as their eyes met, her lips stretched into an evil grin. “That’s right. But… you look cute while you’re bound.”
“…”
