True Alpha’s Chosen Mate - Chapter 247
“You’re too late, Lamb. You left Ronmin and now… no one will save them anymore. No one will stop him from going back to the place where he belongs.”
I looked at Niall while my mouth opened and closed like a fish. I felt like a hand was gripping my heart, squeezing it tightly.
Niall smacked his lips as he turned his back against me to look somewhere, keeping his hand on his back. “You are smart, Lamb. Just a bit of hint and you will understand the situation — you will understand everything. If your enemy isn’t as cunning as him, then who will win against you?”
“Niall,” I called under my breath, barely finding my voice, as I couldn’t close my mouth from the shock. “You…”
“I did,” he answered in a stern voice even before I could say anything else. “I did everything I can to fulfill his goal, Rinnie. The child of evil, Azazel, had ruined our Hendrik Empire, our people, our family… he took everything, Rinnie.”
He paused as he laughed in ridicule. “No one came to save us. Mother? She had abandoned us long ago. The werewolves? As if their kind matters to me. We can only save ourselves from my foolish father, who cannot let go of his beloved. His agony and unable to recover from losing his wife… we all paid the price.” His aura turned dark as he looked back at me once again with eyes distant and cold.
“He lost his wife, but I also lost my mother, and yet… I had to suffer all these years, listening to the devil whispering in my ear.” Niall balled his hand into a fist. “I cannot entrust my life and my people to a mad emperor. I couldn’t continue waiting for someone to help us. Thus, I took the matters into my hand.”
I shook my head as everything I had known so far shattered and was slowly falling apart. I swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and he continued;
“I don’t care how many people Azazel wants. I will kill them all and offer them to him. Be it witches, virgins, werewolves, or the lamb. I will give him everyone he needs just so he can get the hell out of this world,” he added, grinding his teeth as he took large, aggressive steps in my direction until we were toe to toe. “It doesn’t matter if everyone will end up hating me as long as I know, for sure, my people will have their own land they will call home.”
“Do you think I am wrong?” he asked through his gritted teeth, grabbing my wrist to the side. “If you think I am, why didn’t you come when I needed you?! Why didn’t you come when I and my people were silently crying for help?! If only you came that time… if only you truly want to help us, you wouldn’t end up in Everfell.”
“If only you did, this won’t happen. You could’ve pretended this from happening, you could’ve saved me,” he continued along with a dry scoff, tightening his grip around my wrist. “But you didn’t, Rinnie. You… my only salvation didn’t come when I needed it. So, what is it so wrong to protect my people, me, when no one else wants to take that role?”
I ground my teeth as my eyes stung, feeling this invisible stake impaled straight in my chest. The pain in my wrist felt nothing because Niall’s pain… was also mine to bear.
Was it truly my fault?
Was that the real reason I was planning to go to the Hendrik Empire from the beginning?
Honestly, I could vaguely recall everything now. It was as if there was always this missing piece, just like how Daniel couldn’t remember Hugo.
“The only time you come to the vampires is when you want to destroy them or if it concerned the werewolves.” He let out a dry laugh while his eyes bore ridicule, reflecting the person he sees in it. A joke. “Thus, I regret nothing I had done so far. I don’t regret the death of a few of my people; their death will not be in vain. The sacrifices, the lives, the morality, and integrity… I don’t regret giving them up. Can you blame me?”
“Am I evil? Why? Because I need to survive, and the only way for that is taking another life?” he seethed, grinding his fangs against his teeth. “Why is it so wrong for us to survive when everybody else had that free will?”
The space between my brows crumpled as my lips quivered, pulling his hand back, standing on my toe, and wrapping my arms around his neck. I couldn’t argue with him with everything he said.
In fact, I agreed with him.
The child of evil was akin to a plague settling in their hearts. From the beginning until this very moment, they, the vampires, only had themselves to save themselves.
“Why… Mother, was it so hard to survive?” I cried with tears falling from my eyes, chin up, while I stared at the moon. “I had also been asking that. They had nothing wrong! What is good? What is bad? If wanting to live requires killing another, is it called evil?!”
I felt like I hadn’t yelled in years, but the words kept flowing out of my mouth. Ever since the wolf and the child of evil existed in this world, the lines between good and bad blurred. It was hard to pinpoint who was righteous and evil.
“I’m sorry, Niall, I cannot answer that,” I whispered in a shaking voice, tightening my grip around his neck, my body glowing like the moon. “I really do. But… the lamb is just a part of me now. My husband needs me.”
Niall gripped my hips tightly, but after my last remarks, he loosened his grip while I tighten mine around his neck.
“I… hate you,” he scoffed weakly.
I gritted my teeth, closing my eyes as tears rolled down my cheeks. I felt sorry and heartbroken but, I was Rinnie Tempest now. And Hugo… I was his person.
SNAP!
