True Alpha’s Chosen Mate - Chapter 251
Meanwhile…
“I knew it won’t be simple, even if I catch you off guard.”
Hugo stretched his neck as he rose to his feet. He twisted his wrist to repair his broken wrist, glancing over his shoulder to see that they were out of the training grounds.
“My…” Azazel laughed with his lips closed, running his fingers through his long hair. “I didn’t see that coming.”
He shook his head mildly, still laughing, finding this turn of events amazing. He didn’t suspect Hugo to figure out his facade until he attacked him. The trickster being tricked wasn’t heard on a daily basis, after all.
Hugo smirked as he licked his canines. His eyes blazed with a thirst for blood, claws itching to flay him from head to toe. This man… this vampire… would pay for everything he had done.
“You’re scary. Surely, you got all the qualities of the beast side of the wolf.” Azazel praised, while nodding, studying Hugo’s statue and noticing the increasing dark aura emanating from him. “How cunning. I thought… everything is perfect. Even the Lamb didn’t figure it out. It tickles my curiosity. How… or rather, since when had you been suspecting me?”
Hugo’s smirk remained as a glint flickered across his eyes. “Since when…?” he let out a dry laugh as black furs grew on his arms. The ground underneath his feet cracked until it created a shallow hole because of Hugo’s weight.
Hugo’s jaw fell open slightly as his upper body leaned forward. “… since the beginning.”
CLASH!
As soon as those words slipped past his mouth, Hugo leaped towards Azazel, only for his claws to meet with a sword made of blood. He didn’t know where Azazel got the red sword that was just as hard and sharp as a real sword. It just appeared out of the thin red mist.
“Since the beginning?” Azazel smirked while Hugo’s claws and his sword rattled in between them. “Please, Your Grace. Enlighten this slow-witted being such as myself.”
The side of Hugo’s lips slowly stretched into a grin. “I’d rather have fun watching you trying to figure it out, son.” And then he swung his an arm, making his claws screech against the red sword, pushing Azazel back.
Azazel hopped back, barely making a sound as his feet met the ground. He stopped after a few meters, creating a good distance from the mad wolf staring at him like prey.
“I bet you were having fun watching me play along with you.” The smile on his face faded slightly, a bit displeased how this person managed to fool him. If it was from the beginning, then Hugo had been laughing behind him? Or perhaps that was a bluff?
Having a question in his mind, Azazel disliked the riddle. After, everything that happened before Hugo bared his fangs at him was calculated. He had been predicting things, following the cause-and-effect rule, in everything that had happened.
Sure, Hugo couldn’t trust him the first time, but with all the facts laid on the table, and bits and pieces of the truth Azazel thrown out there, he was certain he got his trust. There was no way Hugo didn’t trust him at one point. But then again… Azazel would surely know if Hugo slightly changed in the middle unless the change had already happened beforehand. Or no change happened at all.
“Weren’t you also having fun watching everyone dance in your tune?” Hugo chuckled, pleased to see that Azazel was itching to figure out the truth. “Why are you looking at me like that? Does the taste of your own medicine not to your liking, perhaps?”
“Huh…” Azazel laughed dryly, glancing at the wall behind Hugo to see Daniel and a few wolves appearing one after another. “He also knew, huh? Ah, no. By the looks of it, the crown prince was also taken by surprise.”
And then it hit him.
He gazed back at Hugo and laughed. Hugo wasn’t lying, indeed. He never trusted Azazel from the very beginning.
It only dawned on Azazel that Hugo’s instincts were akin to diamonds. Hugo was able to unveil the truth behind the wolf and the lamb just by adding bits and pieces of the vague clues. He already knew and believed his own conclusion even before he questioned Daniel about it.
So, it wouldn’t be a surprise that Hugo didn’t trust him from the get-go. And even when Hugo kept in touch with him, it was all to deceive Azazel and everyone as well. Surely, the wolf was as cunning as a fox.
Azazel could not help but laugh at the thought. “Well, I’ll give that to you. I mean, that is really amazing,” he praised while clapping.
“I cannot believe how slow-witted you are. It’s funnier than a joke.” Hugo also laughed, stretching his neck from one side to the other, eyes at the vampire. “How the hell did you come to a fucking prediction that I will trust you when, from the very beginning, you already attempted to put a wedge between me and my brother?”
Hugo’s laughter continued as his fingers stretched, letting his claw grow longer. “I mean, are you that stupid?” His eyes were full of ridicule, barely blinking as he widened them to mock him right in his face.
“I’ve said this many times and I will repeat it until your barely used brain can understand it. I am but a family guy. Before my life… theirs are far more important.; their happiness, their peace, and their life. Cheesy, it may sound, but that is the brother, the son, the husband they had.”
“The lamb? Wolf? Child of evil?” he snickered as he licked his lips. “Those three can just fucking go back to the past… where they all belong.”
CLASH!
Another explosive exchange of blows ensued right after Hugo’s remarks. Both of them moved in a lightning speed, making it hard for those who were watching to see their movements as both of them ambled up the dirt on the ground.. It didn’t take long when a thick smoke surrounded the two, but neither of them stopped.
