Trust In Love - Chapter 248
“Damn, guys. Do you all hate me?”
Max swivelled on a high stool. His ȧssigned table could accommodate two people. The surface had been laminated with thin ceramic. If he stretched his arm over it, his wrist would be dangling on the other side.
Jae moved the lab items away from him when he did just that.
“Depends on what this is about.”
“I could have been with a girl for this experiment. Develop chemistry in more ways than one.” Max whɨnėd, lifting his head off his arm. He rolled his violet eyes and smacked Jae with the back of his hand. “But you just had to pull the ‘I’m-your-best-friend’ card.”
“I think you misunderstood,” his best friend objected. He gave Max a pointed look. “I played the ‘You-broke-way-too-many-stuff-that-you-need-supervision’ card.”
“He’s right,” Colin backed up. He glanced from the table in front of them. “After the lecture, Logan and I agreed to move the chairs so we can also keep an eye on you.”
“Hey! I am not that bad. I don’t need babysitters.”
Logan stopped writing in his notebook. The statement easily caught his attention. He twisted his tool to one side, getting a better view of the other table. He stared at Max through his dark eyelashes.
“Max, you used too much Hydrogen Peroxide and Potassium Iodide last time that the foam splattered all the way to the front of the room,” Logan reminded him, “And you were in the last row.”
“It was one time!”
Colin also turned his stool. His elbow rested on the table. The rest of the class also chatted among themselves as they waited for their teacher. A mischievous glint shined in his brown eyes. That playful behavior flowed down his lips, stretching the corners.
“I mean…,” he began to say, “That’s not as bad as Logan flooding foam over someone’s laundry room.”
A hand slammed down on the table. Logan snapped his head towards Colin. He widened his emerald eyes in alarm, blood draining off his face. The smug grin he faced confirmed his presumptions. Fear washed over his soul and goosebumps rose on his skin.
He knew exactly what Colin meant.
“How-how did you know about that?” Logan breathed out, his voice shaking a bit.
“Lauren told me.”
“Wait, wait, wait… what is this about?” Jae cut in. He leaned over the table, waving his hand in the air. He blinked several times and tried not to seem too thrilled by this new information. “Where and how did Logan end up washing laundry?”
“Was it Alex’s clothes?” Max asked next. He peeled himself off the table. His previous complaints flew out the window. He found something more interesting to talk about.
“Have you already seen her undėrwėȧr? Dude, that is sly,” he paused. Shaking his head, admiration painted on his face. “I love it.”
“No, I did not.” Logan denied immediately. He’d be buried alive if word leaked out about an elbow macaroni bra. That fact made him wonder why Lauren decided to tell Colin. He actually didn’t know how much she revealed.
For the sake of Alex’s dignity—and his life—he figured that she left out that part.
Max snapped his fingers. “So it was Alex’s laundry though?”
“Yes?” Logan replied through gritted teeth. How long would this conversation take? He buried his face behind a hand, blush rising to his cheeks. “I went to her house because I couldn’t make it to the party.”
Jae scowled. A hazy memory emerged from the corners of his mind. It was a bit difficult since he was drunk at the time. “And why were you not at the party? I think I tried to follow you that night.”
His brother scowled back. “Well, why were you following me?”
“Dad thought you had a girlfriend. I was worried that it would be You-Know-Her-Name.” Jae explained. He tilted his head to one side. If the girl turned out to be Alex, where had he been that night?
“So where were you?”
Logan sighed, his shoulder slumping in dejection. He wouldn’t be able to worm his way out of this one. “I was at the Principal’s Office all night. Looking for any clue if someone took Alex’s school records or something.”
Max gaped. His face lit up with a new level of adoration. His eyes were wide and twinkling. “You broke into your father’s office? Man, you just became cooler in my eyes.”
Jae smacked the back of his head. “Don’t get any ideas, Max.”
“I’m not!” His best friend shot down, pouting. He rubbed the sore spot and turned back to the other table. “I still want to know what kind of laundry Logan was doing and how he flooded the room with bubble foam. Colin, you tell us.”
Colin sneaked a peek at Logan. It was his story to tell. He figured it would be better to have it come from the primary source. Yet, his opinion was rebutted when Logan gestured a hand, signalling him to continue.
With his best friend’s permission, Colin proceeded to narrate the story.
“Lauren just said it was like a scene from a romance novel.” He said, reciting from memory. They had been talking on the phone that time. The clock ticked on his wall as it neared midnight. “They were just making googly eyes at each other, being quiet.”
“That wasn’t what happened,” Logan blurted out.
“Well,” Colin thought for a while. He tapped his chin, trying to remember the details. “You also spun her around and wouldn’t release her until she said that she loved you.”
A loud scream captured the class’ attention. Heads turned in their direction. Curious gazes observed the fiasco. Whatever they had to say flowed back into their throats. The boys enraptured their attention.
“AAAAAHHH…!” Max squealed. He got up from his seat, running to Logan’s back. He wrapped an around the younger Parker twin and squeezed. “You sly sly bastard! When was this?! How long have you been making these moves?! How the hell are you still alive?”
Jae hid a snort. He pressed a fist against his closed lips. This was just too good. That last question hit the spot. He had to stop breathing or he would create a raucous with his laugh.
“What do you mean?” Logan scoffed. He yanked Max’s arm and threw it in the air. “I am way too good-looking to die young.”
Max was unfazed. He bent down to put his elbow on their table. His finger knuckles cradling his cheek, he wiggled his eyebrows. “Since I’m better looking then, I’ll live much longer than you, huh?”
Logan shoved his face away. “Dream on, Peyton.”
“Knock it off already,” Jae scolded. He hit his best friend’s back with a pencil. “Get back here.
Colin chuckled. He switched the topic. “Do you already have plans for your first date?”
“I am still considering several ideas.” Logan declared. He had even looked up some advice on the internet. He wanted the date to go well. Most of them… seemed lackluster? Alex liked to stay indoors.
As much as he’d love to save money that way, he also wanted for them to have a day out and create a memorable date. Who knew outdoor activities could be boring? Nothing struck him with inspiration.
After this, they would just Netflix and chill for the rest of them.
Logan turned to the other table. “Jae, what are you going to do for your date with Emily?”
His twin raised a skeptical brow. “Why do you ask? So you can steal my idea?”
“No, so we don’t get the same idea.” Logan cleared up, emphasizing the keyword of his sentence, “Wouldn’t it look bad if we did?”
“I don’t know, guys.” Max joined in. He went back to his seat, his toes propped on the footrest. “What if one was better than the other? Wouldn’t the girls compare? The guy who delivered short would be in a bad light.”
Both Parker twins became quiet. They immersed themselves in their own thoughts. They wouldn’t admit it but they knew Max had a valid point. Since the girls knew each other, what he said was likely to happen. It also didn’t help that both dates would happen at the same time.
They needed to plan with extra care.
“Whatever you guys do… don’t go to the amusement park,” Colin warned them, “They’d know you took the idea from my date with Lauren.”
The classroom door opened. A tall man with broad shoulders entered, stepping up the podium. Pale blonde hair framed his face. His leafy green eyes squinted at the light of the windows. He shrugged off his jacket and placed it at the back of the teacher’s chair.
He addressed the students without a glance.
“Good afternoon, class.”
Colin clasped Logan’s shoulder. His gaze darted between the two troubled teenagers. Their expressions said it all. The pressure for their first dates had sunk in. “Good luck, boys.”
Logan and Jae exchanged a look. They had come to a silent agreement.
Why was it so hard to plan a date?
Fortunately, they still had a few more days left. It would give them enough time to prepare. They could also help each other out. After all, two heads were better than one. They would be able to come up with perfect ideas.
Hopefully.
