Trust In Love - Chapter 262
“Is it a human?”
“Nope.”
“Is it an animal?”
“Nu-uh.”
Alex scrunched her eyebrows. “What kind of clue did he give again?”
“He said it’s something that he has,” Logan told her. He had the same confused look on his face.
“What does Max have?” She wondered, pressing her lips together. Both of them had their arms crossed over their ċhėsts. They looked at each other for answers.
Neither one came up with an idea.
Their shoulders shrugged simultaneously. Drowsiness weighed in their eyes. The smooth journey lulled them to sleep. Hands smacked them on their shoulders.
“Wake up, wake up!” Max yelled. The corners of his lips pulled down into a pout. “The game isn’t over yet. It’s finally my turn.”
Alex yawned. “I doubt that we’d figure it out.”
“But it’s so easy!”
Carla kicked his knee. “If it’s so easy, what is it?”
“My brain, of course!”
…
…
…
…
The group spared a moment of silence.
None of them had the motivation to protest.
The city had disappeared from their windows. The SUV drove through the first town. Calmer roads eased the ride experience. The GPS directed them with a longer route. They cruised, taking their time in reaching Woodlands. Their eyes admired any glimpse of nature.
It tempted them to roll down the windows and breathe in the air.
Lauren mumbled along with the music. Her head bopped to the beat as she thought of another question. It seemed like the breeze from the open window cooperated with her. It flew in, tangling her hair even more.
.
“`
Baby, baby I can hear the wind whip past my face~
As we dance the night awaaay…~
““
.
Colin sneaked a glance at her. She returned his stare, keeping up with the song. A soft blush colored her cheeks. They had sung before but this song had a different vibe. Only bold people could sing this out loud.
.
“`
As I kiss you again and again and again and again
“`
.
Emily started to sway when she heard Lauren’s voice. The enticing tone invited her to join along. She ignored the ongoing game and gave in to her urges. She filled her lungs with air, reaching to the back and the bottom.
Her mouth opened and summoned a belt from her guts. If was going to do this, she was going to do it right.
.
“`
NOW EVERYBODY ASK ME WHY I’M SMILING OUT FROM EAR TO EAAARRRRR~~
BUT I KNOW~~~
.
The others. became quiet from the sudden melodic scream. They paused to listen for the rest.
Lauren whipped her head around. She grinned at Emily who had her eyes closed. She cut in and matched Emily’s volume. Her pitch also didn’t lose.
Now that someone else also sang, she felt much more confident and comfortable.
.
“`
NOTHING’S PERFECT BUT IT’S WORTH IT AFTER FIGHTING THROUGH MY TEARS…!
“`
.
.
“`
AND FINALLY YOU PUT ME FIRST!
“`
.
When the chorus came in, they maintained eye contact. Their hands reached out to each other. They seranded one another. Everything else faded away from their vision. They lived in the song.
Their senses focused on its rhythm, its melody and its lyrics. They gave it their all, mimicking the soul that powered the song.
.
“`
Baby, it’s you!
You’re the one I love!
You’re the one I need!
You’re the only one I see…!
Come on, baby, it’s you!
You’re the one that gives your all!
You’re the one I can always call!
When I need to make everything stop…!
.
Finally you put my love on top!
“`
.
Emily raised her hand for a high-five. Lauren complied. A loud smack echoed inside the van. They laughed at their antics. The audience clapped their hands and cheered. The brief display revived their energies.
People came alive, stretching. Their eyes fluttered open and also swayed to the music. Colin had turned up the volume. The beat vibrated against the walls.
“We had such great harmony!” Emily gushed, her hand still clasped together with Lauren’s, “We are definitely soul sisters now. You have such a beautiful voice. I sound like a frog compared to you.”
“Your voice is fine.” Lauren chuckled. She pulled her hand back. The speakers finished the song for them.
“I can only pretend to hit the high notes,” Emily explained. “The important thing is for it to not deafen ears.”
“I agree,” Colin spoke up. He glanced at everyone else from the mirror. “Please duct tape Max if he tried to sing.”
“You’re all on fire today, aren’t you?” Max huffed. He leaned on the window and slouched with his arms over his ċhėst. “I’ve been behaving this whole time.”
Jae stretched his arm behind Carla and patted his best friend’s shoulder. “Come on, don’t sulk. I’ll treat you to a meal. Anyone else feeling hungry?”
“I’m hungry. Can we stop somewhere?” Emily asked, pretending not to hear him.
“I think—” Alex stopped short. Gray eyes widening her body became still. She waited and wondered if her hunch was correct. Maybe she only imagined it. After all, they were in a moving vehicle.
Then, it repeated.
Horror drained the blood on her face.
She clutched her cousin’s wrist. “Emily, do you…”
Lauren glanced over her shoulder. Her eyebrows knitted with worry. “Alex, are you okay?”
“Yeah,” Alex squeaked, clearing her throat. She tightened her grip and gritted her teeth. “I just need to go to the bathroom.”
Her gaze flickered towards Colin. “Is there a gas station nearby? I can’t let this wait.”
He took one look at her and nodded. He sped up the gas, overtaking any cars. “I’ll stop as soon as I see one.”
“Thank you.”
Max leaned forward. He craned his neck and searched for any distressed signs. “You can’t hold it in?”
“Move over, piece of testosterone.” Carla said, smacking his arm. It didn’t take long for her to figure out what was wrong. “Do you have any with you?”
“No,” Alex ġrȯȧnėd. She wasn’t sure if her mother packed any either. “Do any of you?”
The three girls shook their heads.
Lauren turned back to the road. She kept her eyes peeled for the nearest place to stop. It didn’t need to be a gas station. Unfortunately, the road only had a few establishments. Since they took the long route, most of the surroundings were for eye-gazing rather than practical needs.
Alex turned to her left. “Logan, where’s my blazer?”
He immediately grabbed for her things. They sat on the floor, near his legs. He had taken them from her and carried them into the van. His hands unfolded the blazer.
She snatched it. Scooting forward, Alex tied the sleeves around her waist. Half her bottom was left on the seat. She stood up slightly to get the fabric under her. She straightened her legs, heels resting on the floor.
She took a deep breath.
Logan posed his arms, thinking of how to help. He became ready in case she fell off her seat. “Is this really necessary?”
Alex breathed out a laugh. There was no humor in her voice. “Unless the cushions are non-observant then, yes. It is necessary.”
He blinked, realizing what was going on. He wrapped his arms around her waist and held her in place. He tucked a leg under hers, hoping it would support her weight.
It was an awkward position.
“I’ll go to the store when we stopover. You can head for the bathroom.” Emily suggested.
Logan shook his head. “Let me do it. I’m faster. We don’t even know what we’d find. The store might not have any. We’d need to search for another one. It would be better if you stayed with her in the bathroom.”
“I’ll try checking her luggage first. There might be some toiletries.”
Alex ignored them and focused on her body’s condition. She heightened her senses for any repetition. The best thing to do was control the flow.
She cursed at her luck. Of all days and of all the hours of the day, it had to happen now. She didn’t even feel any warning signs.
Thank goodness that she had packed clothes. At least, that solved one part of the problem.
“Does that mean you’ll need some chocolate?” Logan joked, easing the tension.
She glared from the corner of her eye. “Ha-ha. Must be so amusing to see me suffer.”
“I’ll take that look as a yes.”
Max checked on everyone’s face. Almost all of them focused on Alex. They acted like she’d go into shock any minute. They also talked as if they had a secret code. None of their words gave him a clue on what it is. Their expressions also didn’t give anything away.
“Am I the only one confused—OH!” He gasped. The answer seeped from the corners of his mind. It was at the tip of his tongue.
“Ooohhh…! Alex’s period came.”
“Huh,” Carla reacted, keeping her eyes on Alex. “So you do have a brain after all.”
