Twin Soul - Book 4: Chapter 23
Back to Linkeep Island. Seeing Ariel fly away with the intent of slaying Kimaris, Kain smiled and thought, “Such a f*cking idiot. By the time you manage to kill Kimaris, I will have finished eating the other two Archangels. If it wasn’t because my wife told me to drag this battle out as long as possible, three of you idiots would have been dead already.”
Kain didn’t want the plans Jaane created for him to go to waste. He decided to fly after Ariel, blocking her from getting closer to Kimaris and forcing her to continue fighting with him. Killing three Archangels and completely eating their bodies would permanently kill them, but Kain didn’t want that to happen yet. He wanted to see if Noe Clerico could defeat Saint Archangel Michael or not. If Michael loses, then Noe Clerico teaming up with Arthur Castillon would be a much bigger threat for Kain instead of those Archangels. But if Noe lost, Arthur will do everything he can to ensure Noe won’t die and it wouldn’t be too late for Kain to fight seriously to ensure victory for the humans when that happens.
Successfully hindering Ariel from coming closer to Kimaris, Kain fiercely swung his fiery battle-axe toward Ariel while thinking, “I can defeat the Devil Overlord before my Souls are recuperated. I will have no problem defeating the Saint Archangel now that my Souls have come back to me. Watcher Zorim, Watcher Tykan… You both turned me into a chess piece for your game of gaining control in Toria Continents. Tykan, you are no longer in control of me but I know you can still observe me anytime you want. If Jaane succeeds, I will make sure neither of you will have control of this realm. Watcher Zorim, the Creator has granted you this realm, but it would be logical to take it away from you and grant it to another Watcher if no one in this realm worships or even knows the name Zorim. I can’t wait for the day all of your statues will be destroyed in Toria Continents.”
While everyone in Linkeep Island was busy fighting their battles, a giant projection of Watcher Zorim appeared in the sky as all movements in the entire realm of Toria Continents were forced to cease. The projection of Watcher Zorim started moving like a hologram as it said, “Enough! Michael, I sent you to defend Toria Continents. Why are you wasting time and energy fighting against the current Protector?”
Finished asking that question, a beam of pink light from the sky touched Saint Michael, allowing him to speak. Michael smiled and said, “You know why, almighty Watcher Zorim.”
“I promised to make you the new Protector of Toria Continents allowing your angels to freely travel between two realms without needing a gateway using a permanent portal, but that was only if you defeat Kain Bersk and purge all Blood Mages of this realm from existence. I don’t care what happened between you and Noe Clerico, both of you needed to work together to protect this realm regardless of whether you wanted to or not.”
Unable to move his body, Saint Michael turned his head to look at Noe Clerico then turned back to look at Watcher Zorim and said, “Your pet wished to fight me. I simply granted him his wish. If he wishes to team up with me, I wouldn’t reject granting him such a wish.”
Watcher Zorim turned his gaze toward Noe and asked, “And you, Noe Clerico. Why are you teaming up with the Blood Mages to fight against the allies I have sent to support you?”
Another beam of pink light from the sky touched Noe Clerico allowing him to speak as well. Noe answer using an angry tone, “The last time you appeared in Toria Continents was when announcing you had appointed me to be the Protector for this realm. I have done my deed of protecting this planet for way too long compared to all previous Protectors. I have never disobeyed your orders, how dare you break the promise you have made to me and send my greatest enemy to this realm?”
“I thought you were defeated and Arthur Castillon wasn’t strong enough to fight against Kain Bersk and the Diamond Skeleton of the Skeletons’ Realm. I have done what must be done to protect one of my precious realms.”
“That just proved you have no faith in my power. What kind of Watcher are you for not believing in the one you have appointed as a Protector? You knew very well I have been looking for the angel who destroyed my mother’s soul. I asked you once about who was the angel that destroyed my mother’s soul and you said he must have traveled to the higher realms. You knew exactly who it was but didn’t tell me. It turned out that retarded angel was just a projection of the Saint Archangel which means it was this Saint Archangel who destroyed my mother’s soul. Damn you…”
“Your mother is just a normal human being. Her life isn’t worth being mentioned. You dared to fight against Saint Archangel Michael for a dead soul?”
“Not just him. If I ever become a Watcher, I will surely fight against you for lying to me.”
“Insolence!”
Taking several seconds to calm down, Watcher Zorim said using a warm tone, “Noe Clerico, your time in the lower realms had run out. Time to go to the higher realms as one of my new Gods. I appear here today instead of sending my messengers to show how much I valued your talent.”
Noe rudely asked, “Didn’t you just choose someone else earlier to be a new God? It seems like you have someone else better in mind instead of me as your first choice.”
“That wasn’t my doing. He was an outsider who happened to advance into God-tier while roaming around this realm. Noe, shall we go now?”
“I was praying every day to you wondering when you would choose me to be a God. Now that I know Michael was the one who destroyed my mother’s soul and seeking revenge against him, you dared call me to the higher realms at the time like this?”
“The choice is not yours to make. No one could resist my calling to become a God. You sure know about that, don’t you? If you refuse to go willingly, then I will force you to go.”
Noe smirked as he said, “Alright Watcher Zorim, I know that I can’t resist. I will go to the higher realms then find another Watcher to work for. Do you really want that? You can send as many Gods as you want to hunt me down. Deep down in your heart, you know how powerful I am and how much benefit I can bring you in the long term.”
Watcher Zorim didn’t know how Noe knew that he could find another Watcher to work for in the higher realms. Zorim then remembered Noe’s Soul-bound Creature was a God-tier Ice Mage which means some information of the higher realms have been revealed to her and no surprise if she told Noe about it. Zorim lowered her voice and stated, “I will revitalize the soul of your mother, and you will be loyal to me in the higher realms.”
Instead of asking Noe a question, Watcher Zorim made it sound like she made a statement to save her face of worrying about losing Noe Clerico in the higher realms. Noe heard that his mother’s soul could be revived and nothing could make him happier than that, he immediately said, “I agreed. You revitalize my mother’s soul, and I will forever be loyal to you in the higher realms.”
Watchers are powerful beings appointed by The Creator, Noe didn’t have any doubt hearing Watcher Zorim could revitalize his mother’s soul. But it was all just a lie Watcher Zorim created in this desperate time because she doesn’t want Noe to continue fighting against Saint Michael or find another Watcher to work for after he advanced into God-tier. Watcher Zorim casted an illusion spell on Noe and everyone at Linkeep Island tricked them into seeing the soul of Noe’s mother, Darla Welfer. Zorim injected her vast power to make sure no one including Noe wouldn’t know that their minds have fallen into an illusion spell. All were fooled by Zorim’s illusion spell, except for one person.
Michael’s projection, Micah, was the one who destroyed Darla’s soul. Unless it was The Creator himself, Michael knew too well no Watcher is powerful enough to recover a soul that he had destroyed. Seeing how happy Noe was interacting with an illusion, Saint Michael shook his head and thought to himself, “A Watcher had to lie to a human to satisfy his wish. Is he really worth it? Noe Clerico is just another human being. He is weak and pathetic like all other humans. Seeing him so happy talking to an illusion made me want to puke. Such weak-minded…”
