Twisted Destiny - Chapter 87

After everything is said and done, I put the tablet away and get my choker ready so we can move out. In the meantime the others clean up our breakfast.
âShould we go by car or take the tram to your university?â My sister asks while playing around with her keys.
âTram should be fine, my parents will be taking the tram too anyway.â Sam picks up her bag and swings it around her shoulder.
âAh, got any plans for the evening?â Max does the same.
âWe were all going to visit Samâs parents after the game.â My sister clarifies.
âYes, we havenât met them yet and we thought this might be a good opportunity to do so.â Nikki fills in.
âAnd Hilda was joining as well.â I add to that.
âThat sounds like a fun evening.â
âIt does, doesnât it?â Ălise opens the door as we all follow her outside and head towards the tram station.
The trip towards uni was calm and uneventful, a slight warm breeze, quite uncommon for October, made my dress wave as we exited the tram and entered our campus.
âWe will go ahead to get dressed and start our warm-up.â Sam grabs my hand and gives me a kiss. âYou remember where you can get your snacks, right?â
I nod. âI do.â
âAlright.â Sam smiles and gives me another kiss. âThe game starts in 45 minutes. Donât be late!â
âOf course not.â
âSee you later babe!â
âSee you.â I blow her a hand kiss as they walk off in the distance.
In the meantime Nikki and my sister were looking around at our environment, my sis had already put on her aviator sunglasses.
âWow, the campus park sure changed a lot since we were last here.â Lise whistles.
âDid it?â
âYeah, itâs a lot greener than I remember.â
âThey had only recently planted it when we were studying.â Nikki explains.
âAh yeah, that makes sense.â
âThe gymnasium was somewhere to the left, right Amicia?â My sister points in the general direction.
I nod. âYep.â
âAlrighty.â She grabs her girlfriend’s hand and starts leading the way, with me following a couple of meters behind them. It kind of feels like seeing them on a date, itâs pretty darn cute.
To my surprise my sister and Nikki even manage to find the snack store without much of my own help. Thatâs when I hear a familiar voice coming from behind me.
âHey Amicia.â
âHilda!â I run up to her and give her a big hug.
âWhatâs up kiddo.â She smiles and gives me a head pet, holding a motorcycle helmet in her other hand.
âAh, hey there, Hilda.â My sister and Nikki have turned around as well to greet their friend. âWas it easy to find?â
âYeah, I just followed you guys. Saw you in the distance but didnât bother running, itâs a bit too warm for that.â
âMaybe you shouldnât be wearing a leather jacket and motorcycle pants then?â
She shrugs. âYou need to be safe on a motorbike, you know?â
âFair enough.â
âBy the way, have you seen Samâs parents yet?â
âNo.â I shake my head. âMaybe they are inside already.â At that moment my phone buzzes, itâs a message from Sam. âAhâŠâ
âWhatâs up kitten?â
âItâs Sam, she says her parents canât find the way to the gymnasium, they are waiting near the faculty of science. Iâll go and get them then.â
My sister nods. âOkay, want us to get you some snacks?â
I look at the counter for a second. âYes! A portie bitterballen and a frikandel please!â
âOh, that does sound nice.â Hilda rubs her chin.
âAlright. You can go ahead, we will keep a couple of seats.â
I leave my friends and family behind to look for Samâs parents, luckily it doesnât take that long for me to find time.
âOh, hey Amici.â Samâs mom greets me with a kiss. âYou look lovely today.â
âThank you, Lucy.â
âAh, you remember my name?â
âOf course!â
âSee honey, sheâs such a sweetheart.â
âOtherwise our Sam wouldnât have fallen in love with her.â Carlos rubs his wife on her back.
âThatâs true.â She smiles. âBut Amicia, be honest with us, how far are we from where we were supposed to be?â
âUhhh⊠You are at the right university.â
âWell, itâs something.â Samâs dad shrugs.
âOh dear, well, if youâd be so kind to show us the way then.â
âDefinitely, thatâs why Iâm here.â I smile and start guiding them through campus. âIs this the first time you come to watch Sam?â
âNot really.â Her mom giggles embarrassedly. âWe are just completely hopeless when it comes to directions, isnât that true, dear?â
âWell⊠maybe a little.â
âWeâve gotten lost in a supermarket once. It was quite the ordeal.â Samâs mom laughs again. âThey did have some very nice meatballs, though.â
I can see Carlos agreeing vehemently with that statement. âThose were indeed incredible.â
Having guided Carlos and Lucy to the gymnasium and having them pick out snacks, we finally enter the room where the game is going down. The clock on my phone tells me we still have 15 minutes left. Apparently, while I was gone, Hailey and Carol had arrived as well and were sitting next to my sister and Nikki, talking to Hilda.
âOh, so you are Samâs parents?â My sister stands up once she notices us approaching.
âYes, we are.â Carlos smiles and gives my sister a hand. âAnd you areâŠâ
âAmiciaâs sister, this here is my partner Nikki and our friend Hilda.â
Nikki and Hilda wave at Samâs parents, respectively.
âAnd we are Sam and Amiciaâs friends.â Carol and Hailey also introduce themselves.
âItâs nice to meet you all.â Lucy waves and sits down next to Ălise while I make my way over to the other side to sit next to my friends.
âAh, here Ami, here are your snacks.â Hilda hands over the bitterballen en the frikandel to me.
âThank you! Are you not going to eat anything?â I try to look around but I canât see any snacks on her.
âIâm going to get some during the break, Iâm really that hungry yet.â
âAnd what about you two?â
On cue Carol and Hailey both take their snacks from the floor. Carol had picked some nachos with cheese dip and Hailey had a bag of spicy looking chips.
âIt feels a bit like going to the cinema, doesnât it?â Hailey noms on a chip.
âIt does indeed.â Carol does the same.
âWant to try a chippy, Ami?â
I nod. âOf course, I wonât say no to that. Unless they are too spicy.â
âThey are fine. Here.â Hailey feeds me a chippy.
âWah, delicious.â
âTry mine too!â Carol dangles a nacho with cheese dip on it in front of me, of course I couldnât do anything but to give it a good nomming.
âOh, I see you all are feeding my girlfriend.â Samâs team had taken the field and she and Max had walked over to come say hi.
âYesh, they are treating me well!â
âGood.â Sam smiles. âI see you found my parents too.â she nods to them, they were talking to Max at the moment.
âYeah, they werenât that hard to find.â
âDo your parents know Max, Sam?â Carol asks.
âYeah, sheâs come over to my house a couple of times before.â
âDoes that make you jealous, Carol?â Hailey pokes her shoulder in Carolâs side.
âOf course not!â She pouts. âI was just curious!â
âYou donât need to worry. Me and Max wouldnât be a good couple, while we are really good friends our personalities donât fit romantically. And I have Ami, obviously.â Sam reassures her.
Samâs parents apparently heard her comment because they join the conversation as well. âWe could tell they fit really well together but there definitely never was this âdaughter-in-lawâ click we had with Amicia.â
âNo offense, Max.â
âNone taken.â She smiles. âSamâs too sportsy for me, I like my girls more like a folk song or a popular folk song. Quite christmassy.â
âWhat does that mea⊠ah.â Samâs coin dropped. âI see.â She looks at Carol and smiles.
Carol had also deciphered the message and is blushing quite profusely.
âAnyhow, we should go back and go over the strategy for todayâs game. See you later.â Max winks at Carol and then moves on.
âAmi, before I go, can I get a good luck kiss?â
âOf course.â I quickly stand up and head towards the sideline, giving my girlfriend a long kiss on the lips. âGo get them, captain.â
âAye aye.â She grins and swiftly runs off.
âWell, now they definitely canât lose anymore.â Hilda laughs.
As the game starts 5 minutes later and it slowly progresses âtill half time, Hildaâs prediction appears to hold true. With the university’s team leading by twenty points. Both Max and Sam appear to be in absolute top form and are running across the field almost effortlessly. Even their own team seems to be having issues at times to keep up with them.
When the buzzer finally sounds for the break, the two teams are 23 points apart.
A part of me canât be prouder of my girlfriend, although a different part somehow feels guilty, especially after seeing the faces of the players of the other teamâŠ.
My thoughts get interrupted by a hand that slinks into view from the left and steals the last bitterbal from my snack box. It was Hildaâs. But before I could stop her, the bitterball had already disappeared in her mouth.
âMy bitterbal!â
âSorry, I couldnât help myself, it looked too delicious to be left alone for that long.â
âHilda!!!â I whine to which she starts laughing again.
She pets my head. âCome kitten, letâs go and get you some more snacks.â and she offers me her hand.
I think for a second and then take her hand. âOkay. Might as well.â
Itâs clear what sheâs trying to do, and honestly, I could use a bit of a distraction at the moment…
