Undying Warlord - Chapter 548 Speed
Even if hundreds of opponents were to attack him, if no one could hit him, nothing mattered!
Dilan’s speed more than doubled for a quarter of a second as he exerted the Zephyr Step Movement technique.
He shot out of the encirclement while slashing his longsword diagonally, cleanly beheading one of the Shadow Wolves.
Simultaneously, the gift he had left behind was unveiled. A small blob of dazzling light now levitated at the spot Dilan had been standing at a moment earlier.
The blob of dazzling light burst open, releasing a bright shining light. Dilan had his eyes closed but his lips uptilted when he heard the pained whimpering that originated from the remaining Shadow Wolves.
‘There might not be any shadows without light, but that also has its limits.’
The light he unleashed with the blob was enough to nullify the shadows all around the Shadow Wolves momentarily. Because of that, they couldn’t merge with the ground and disappear when the Icicles and Fire Spears rained down on the spot Dilan had been before.
The Shadow Wolves had run straight into Dilan’s trap and they were punished for their blind haste.
Dilan could tell that they would die soon, but that was of no concern to him. The battle was not yet over because there were still six wolves left alive, though not for long.
There was still one burst left in the Zephyr Step before he would have used up his remaining mana. And to make up for it Dilan used the Essence Cultivation technique to replenish a little bit more mana in the blink of an eye.
It was just enough for him to visualize his plan and to dash at the Wind Wolf.
The Wind Wolf noticed a challenge in speed when he saw one. He accepted Dilan’s challenge and burst forth while strong gales shrouded his body, pushing him further ahead.
Meanwhile, Dilan’s body was getting pushed back as the gales manifested by the Wind Wolf pushed slapped straight into his face.
If Dilan were to be an inexperienced fighter or fight against a veteran Ascender with more experience than him, he might have a reason to worry because his speed was a little lower than that of the Wind Wolf.
Dilan had to regulate his use of the Zephyr Step so that his feet would not be subjected to extreme wear and tear no matter what. It would be annoying to fight the remaining wolves while his feet were cut off and regrowing.
The thought was frustrating enough and Dilan was forced to suddenly retract the winds from within his feet. He turned them into mana which he used to reinforce his ankles as he came to an abrupt halt.
Despite his reinforced ankles, Dilan could clearly hear the crackling sound as he halted in his tracks. However, the pain was something he was accustomed to and it was no problem for him to endure a bit more of it.
Dilan used Green Magic all of a sudden and large veins shot out of the ground next to him. The Wind Wolf was just about to pounce at Dilan and tear him apart when it was caught by surprise. The veins circled around its legs and dragged it back to the ground.
Losing its balance, the Wind Wolf’s head smacked into the ground. More and more veins emerged from the ground, tying down the Wind Wolf and giving it no room to move.
‘Looks like someone doesn’t know that Green Magic is also the control of nature. Poor doggo.’ Dilan thought before he pierced the tip of the longsword deep inside the wolf’s skull.
He twisted the blade into the Wolf’s skull and pulled the blade out before bending down.
At that moment the surrounding land tremored, earthen spikes shot out of the ground all around him and a hail of icicles and fire spears rained down on him.
As if that was not enough, Dilan noticed a mantle of metal engulfing the earthen spikes.
This forced him to change his plans drastically.
“Looks like I have to thank this bastard a lot more than expected!!” Dilan roared, lifting both of his hands high in the air.
He used his Ring of Infinite Elements, extracted a minuscule trace of its accumulated essence, and circulated it through his arm in an instant.
Holding his sword tightly in one hand, Dilan saw his other hand begin to glow brightly.
The Essence crystal of the Wind Wolf shone in Dilan’s hand and he was making use of the Essence within it.
At first, Dilan wanted to use the Essence crystal to make use of the Perfect Essence Cultivation technique to replenish his mana in an instant but that would have to wait for a moment.
He unleashed his unique constitution through the accumulated power of the Essence Crystal and manifested a searing heat wave that burst forth.
The icicles melted in the heatwave while the fireballs dispersed in the heatwave that spread in all directions before reaching higher heights.
Dilan retracted the essence of his constitution after a moment and he dove straight into the heatwave.
His skin was scorched but he escaped the encirclement the Earth and Metal Wolves had created. A moment later, Dilan used the Perfect Essence cultivation technique to drain the remaining essence out of the Essence crystal that crumbled in his hands.
‘That should be enough,’ He thought, lifting his free hand to shoot five air bullets, one aimed at each of his opponents.
The air bullets were not powerful, but Dilan compressed the bullets further to make sure that the place of impact upon the target’s body would be as small as possible. This elevated the damage upon impact drastically, enough to make sure that even the Metal Wolf with metal-like fur felt threatened.
Each of the Wolves had to defend themselves and there was no time to care about their brethren as the air bullets’ velocity was too fast to save their own necks.
Dilan knew that his mana control and aptitude were the cause of this but he felt the need to abuse his superior capabilities at this point.
Thus, he burst forth and activated the Zephyr Steps for a short dash of fewer than 50 meters while ignoring the jolt of pain that shot up in his ankles.
He emerged behind the Earthen Wolf, who had erected an Earthen Wall in front of him to block the air bullet.
Dilan smiled at the Wolf and before the monster could react, his palm flew open and a tiny air bullet formed at the tip of his index finger.
“Bang!” Dilan shouted, releasing the air bullet that pierced deep inside the monster’s skull.
He grasped the dying body and threw it in the direction of the Fire, Ice, and Water Wolf and it was no sooner that a barrage of attacks dug into the monster’s flesh.
Dilan, meanwhile, shot to his right. He used his constitution, and released another blob of light that burst open when he released another barrage of air bullets.
‘Not enough!’
Not trusting the air bullets’ lethality, Dilan burst forth with his eyes closed.
His ankles were swelling and they ached like hell but he ignored the pain and emerged in front of the Fire Wolf a second later nonetheless.
Air currents shrouded Dilan’s body, they accelerated his speed and he slashed out, killing the Fire Wolf by inflicting a huge wound all over his body.
His head flicked over to the remaining wolves and a devilish smile formed on his face.
“You guys should die for me as well!”
