Chapter 5: The First World Creation Simulation, The Birth of Cellular Life
Despite the negative consequences of Cthulhu’s effect, Su Bai still decided to take the risk and use it. After all, the first simulation was meant to test things out.
After some deliberation, Su Bai selected two additional talents:
- Civilization’s Enlightenment (Blue): “+3 Wisdom; helps organisms speed up their use of tools and accelerates brain development.”
- Source of Life (Blue): “+3 Vitality; hastens the creation of life in barren worlds and boosts fertility and survival rates.”
With his talents chosen, Su Bai eagerly confirmed: “Begin the simulation!”
A swirling mist clouded his vision once again, and a series of words appeared before him:
[Initiating World Creation Journey—] [Detected that you possess a D-level Rain Card and an S-level Apocalypse Card. Would you like to carry them into the simulation?] [Note: Carrying items or cards into a simulation will consume extra Genesis points. A D-level card costs 1 point, while an S-level card requires 100 points!]
Su Bai was pleasantly surprised by this feature. However, the cost of using the S-level card was too high, and he chose not to bring either card, opting to see what a standard creation would result in.
[No items selected. Simulation in progress.] [The heavens and earth are split; your world has been awakened. Though the creation of the Tianyuan World was successful, a minor mishap occurred, leaving the land only 1 km in size—far too small.] [First Epoch, Early Stage: The world is barren, with only starlight from the cosmos to mark the passage of time.] [First Epoch, Mid-Stage: After an unknown length of time, you grow intensely bored.] [First Epoch, Late Stage: As the chaotic end of the epoch approaches, life finally stirs. A single-celled organism emerges from the ocean: the Primordial Mother Bacterium!] [Ding! First single-celled organism born. Genesis points +10! (Note: You gain rewards only for the first birth of each species.)]
Su Bai’s excitement peaked. “Finally, life! Though it took a long time… it’s all because the territory is too small.”
[Second Epoch, Early Stage: Alongside the Primordial Mother Bacterium, other single-celled organisms like yeast and paramecium begin to appear. The talent ‘Source of Life’ is now in effect, leading to a rapid proliferation of these life forms!] [Second Epoch, Mid-Stage: Multiple single-celled organisms merge, giving rise to the first multi-celled organism: the Floating Larva!] [Genesis points +20!] [The Floating Larva thrives in shallow waters, and the talent ‘Civilization’s Enlightenment’ takes effect, encouraging them to try crawling onto land!] [Second Epoch, Late Stage: The Floating Larva’s expansion onto land faces obstacles, as they fail to evolve the organs necessary for breathing on land.] [The larvae begin consuming single-celled organisms en masse, aiming to expand their species!] [End of Second Epoch: The Floating Larva’s aggressive consumption devastates the already fragile biosphere. The Primordial Mother Bacterium, yeast, and other single-celled organisms perish one after another.] [With the extinction of these organisms and the environmental collapse they caused, the Floating Larva themselves soon die off without a food source. The ocean returns to its lifeless state.] [Tianyuan World’s potential has been exhausted. All living beings have perished. The world’s barrier has shattered, and cosmic radiation and energy have invaded.] [Tianyuan World has been destroyed!] [This simulation has ended.] [Total duration: Two epochs. Genesis points earned: 30. No intelligent beings or civilizations were born.]
Su Bai sighed in disappointment. “Not even two full epochs before everything collapsed. The foundation was too weak.”
In total, the first simulation had resulted in a net loss of 70 Genesis points. Just as Su Bai thought everything had come to an end, a new line of text appeared before him:
[You may choose one of the following species to retain.]
- Single-celled organism: Primordial Mother Bacterium
- Single-celled organism: Paramecium
- Multi-celled organism: Floating Larva
“Wait, there’s such a benefit?” Su Bai thought for a moment.
“The Primordial Mother Bacterium is the first organism in the world and the origin of all life. It took an entire epoch to appear by a stroke of luck. All future evolution will likely stem from it.”
“Choosing it for the next simulation would save an entire epoch of development.”
“The Paramecium represents the pinnacle of single-celled life, with unmatched reproductive and survival capabilities. Truly the ultimate single-celled organism.”
“And as for the Floating Larva, well, it was the most powerful creature from this simulation.”
After careful consideration, Su Bai made his choice: “I’ll take the Primordial Mother Bacterium!”
Species selected.
A new option appeared: [You may now solidify one of your three talents for use in the next simulation.]
Su Bai didn’t need to think twice. He quickly solidified Cthulhu’s Call, even though it hadn’t come into play yet. The other two talents, being blue-tier, were too common and easily replaceable.
[Cooldown: 20 minutes]
It surprised Su Bai that the simulator had a cooldown period. “So, one epoch equals 10 minutes in real time?”
Then a thought struck him—he recalled that the simulator’s introduction had mentioned that he could solidify one talent each day. Panic surged through him.
Su Bai hurriedly quit the simulation and returned to the real world, jumping out of bed and grabbing his phone.
[June 25, 2077 | 6:07 PM]
“It’s already getting dark?” Looking at the twilight sky outside his window, Su Bai felt a growing sense of urgency.
He had just 7 hours left. How many simulations could he fit into that time? What if he didn’t get a good talent? He’d be wasting a whole day’s opportunity!
“Only seven days until the college entrance exams. This is my one shot at glory—my big comeback.”
“No room for failure.”
Determined, Su Bai picked up a D-level Climate Card, ready for his next move.
