Unlocking Your Potential - Chapter 21 Key 20
If you want to unlock your potential, you need a grateful heart. A grateful heart compels more blessings. The seed you must pay for more blessings from God is a grateful heart. If you are not grateful about what God has done for you, he won’t give you more. Some people forget what God has done for them.
Bless the Lord, o my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name
Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103: 1-5
Some are too ungrateful. They complain about what they don’t have rather than thanking God for what they have. I read of a family who has a sickness that makes all the children crawl on their hands like animals. They can’t walk upright. They use their hands as their legs. In the family, there are matured people who have been like that for ages. They didn’t kill themselves. How come you are ungrateful to God?
And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us
for visiting.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
Luke 17:11-16
Jesus healed ten lepers and only a stranger among them came back to show gratitude. It was a grateful heart that made him do that. There are pastors who only come to church to preach, they don’t join the worship session; they count it as child’s play. There are ‘educated’ people that won’t sing in church, yet such people will go and watch a football match and jump up to celebrate goals; paint their faces with colours just to support their team. They are being ungrateful to God.
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger
And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Luke 17:17-19
The leper thought over it and came back. He must have asked himself, what if I had died a leper. Jesus then gave him an additional blessing. When he got the miracle on the way, he was healed of leprosy i.e. leprosy left his body but the mark was still there. As a result of his gratitude, he was made whole – all his extremities grew out and became normal, the trace of leprosy disappeared; leprosy was cancelled along his family line.
God can bless you, but if you are grateful, he will extend the blessings to your family line.
He will extend his mercy to your undeserving family members because of you. David said how can I stay in a good house and allow the Ark of God to stay in a tent. He called Nathan and made plans to build a house for God. Others didn’t care but he did; he wanted to show gratitude to his Maker.
And God told Nathan to tell David that although he won’t be able to build it because of the blood on his hand yet because he planned it, He (God) will build for him a kingdom that will last forever, and out of his family will the Messiah come. No wonder, Jesus came from the lineage of David.
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
Psalm 9:17
Two sets of people will go to hell: those who are wicked and those who forget God. Don’t forget the goodness of God towards you; grateful people are always lifted higher by Him.
REFLECTION
The seed you must pay for more blessings from God is a grateful heart.
