Unlucky?Player - Chapter 188
With every step, the number of eyes that pierced their bodies increased. It was usual, and nothing out of ordinary, these assassins only acted as a means of defense in case someone for some reason decides to attack them. However, there was one ability that made Nate and Night special, and that was the eyes of the Primordial. As soon as he used the skill, everyone that observed him let out a shriek that revealed their positions.
This wasn’t part of the skill but due to the fact that the eyes literally belonged to Primordials and the assassins were mere humans compared to them, they would all feel a tingling kind of feeling at the back of their minds. It was involuntarily and very inherent.
“What brings you here, Grandmaster” a voice spoke as soon as the trio arrived in front of the opening. “…….” although he wanted to say something about Shade and Noctis, there was practically nothing he could, he wasn’t capable of processing or comprehending their existence with just a single look.
“You can tell?” Night asked impressed by the fact that someone was able to tell his class even after how much he hid or held up his aura(umbrakinesis).
“Don’t be so surprised, I only guessed it because your hands looked like they’re used to the bow and the calluses on your palm look like you’ve been using some kind of a weirdly shaped weapon? Something like a spear? I can’t quite say…”
“A double-edged sword,” Night corrected the voice, “It seems that you can see me, but for some reason, I can’t do the same,”
“Well that’s simple, you aren’t used to the darkness like we are and you aren’t aware of my position,” the voice scoffed in reply, he meant no disrespect but at the same time, he wanted to establish where the assassins stood and what kind of beings they were.
It was ironic and honestly, one of the funniest comments Night had ever heard. Naturally, as someone in the field of martial arts, he had heart remarks and comments most people would usually never hear. However, this was definitely one of his funniest moments. The voice told Night that he wasn’t used to the darkness which is why he couldn’t find him. It was like teaching Poseidon how to swim or Shade how to be loyal, or Aurora how to be annoying.
“You’d be surprised….” Night smirked as he closed his eyes and focused on finding the man’s location. White grid-like lines began to form in his head and slowly everything around him appeared in his head but in the form of white lines. It was the same skill he used to find the center of the barrier in Tokihiko, the same skill he used in the meditation chamber when he first left his mark on the wall.
Multiple figures began to appear in his head, one by one, it was all the people who were glaring at them in the beginning, however, there was one that stood out. And that most likely belonged to the man that just spoke out.
“Does one boulder really protect you?” Night said as he looked in a certain direction, into the darkness, and at a specific huge rock. In a very obvious way, he was the best candidate for being an Assassin. There was practically nobody that could beat him in this field, at least not until they get a power more suitable, which was highly unlikely, as assassins specialize in dealing huge chunks of damage and disappearing.
Night could gather intel with his weapon aura and use his night vision to see through the dark, and in the case that it wasn’t dark, he could simply use his domain skill. Paired with his new martial arts skill tree, he could practically be unbeatable as long as it was against someone who was around his level.
“W-waht!” the voice cried out as he realized that Night not only managed to find his location but he could somehow see through the darkness as well, proving both the points he made previously, null. “W-waht do yo-ou wan..t???”
“To learn that’s all…” Night replied in a calm manner as he continued walking forward through the opening. As soon as he entered, he was met with a view that was exactly like a cave. It was narrow and there was only one way out or in, at least as far as the visitors knew or could see, which in all fairness wasn’t much. The only one who could see everything clearly was, Night.
“To learn????” the man blinked as he slowly came out from behind the boulder. Although he could see in the darkness, it was nowhere near the level of Night’s. It wasn’t as if the path was completely dark, it was simply very dim.
“Yes and to pass the Phantom Trials,” Night said while nodding his head, not a hint of self-doubt existed within him. If he was being honest, he had no idea what the Phantom Trials were, but even then, he had no doubt that he would clear them.
“The Pha-antom t-t-rials….you? How dare you!! Do you think you can just walk in and claim that you’re capable of clearing our sacred trial??? Do you know the last time someone managed to clear all the trials?? It was more than a hundred years ago, and that was done by the Legendary assassin Voss Howler. What makes you think you’re anywhere close to him?? Besides, aren’t you a Grandmaster?? I think you should go back to whatever dojo you belong to and continue working towards mastering weapon aura,” the man said while gesturing for Night to go away.
“But I’ve already done that….” Night frowned at the man’s attitude, he kept one hand on Shade so that the young Guardian doesn’t go on a rampage.
“What??? How old are you??”
“Around 23, why?”
“Impossible….”
The man was in clear disbelief, he knew of Grandmasters who spent decades trying to master weapon aura, and even then only 1% or lesser could actually manage to do so. For someone to be able to manipulate it at the age of 23 was truly absurd. There was no telling what the man would do once he found out that it actually took Night only a few days to master it.
“So can I learn from you guys? I’m pretty sure there isn’t any rule preventing me from doing so,”
“Y-yes….there isn’t…” the man replied in a low tone as he agreed. Without saying anything else, he gestured for Night to follow him, the latter gladly agreed, although, he was slightly surprised as he was expecting the man to ask for proof.
‘Guess people aren’t that annoying huh, nice.’
After walking for about 2 minutes, the dimly lit path finally opened up into a huge room, people could be seen fighting each other, some were blindfolded, while the others were meditating. All over the place, it looked like the one thing that was common was that everyone was focused. Almost as if they were in a trance. However, for the first time ever, a variable that no one would’ve expected entered the Assassins Den, making all of them snap out of their intense concentration. Of course, this variable was Night.
“Wait what’s Player Night doing here? Isn’t he a Grandmaster?? What brings him to the Assassins learning place???”
“Have you forgotten that he had his first ascension?? Meaning the basic rules don’t exactly apply to him, who knows what he is at this point. Just the fact that he mastered weapon aura is absurd, and don’t even get me started on the color of it, and his other skills as well. All of them just seem out of the world!”
“So you’re trying to tell me that, he’s done with his old class and now he’s moving onto the assassin class? That’s….crazy….that shouldn’t be allowed! Where’s the balance…I can’t believe it…..”
