Vain - Chapter 30 Consoling
Rejection didn’t feel good, naturally, it was something everyone would come to face at some point in their lives, but when it came your turn to get hit with it by full force. However much you’ve tried to prepared beforehand neither heals the wound nor lessen the pain.
And so the only thing you can turn to at that point is a session of therapeutic ranting. Which consisted of what Aileene liked best; food, fanfare and a little fake crying. Well, not necessarily the last two, but she did like food, plus ranting while downing ten trays of sugar cookies was never a bad idea.
The only problem was that both Xi and Ruby, whom had never seen Aileene frustrated or uncalm was a little shock. Afterall, even though they were all around the same age. Aileene was considered the big sister of the group, then the ranks under her followed the order of Xi; the middle sister and Ruby; the youngest sister.
The simple logic of it was, ‘If the leader collapsed, what were to happen to the lackeys?’
“There, there. It’s going to be alright. You’ll be able to make more friends in the future.” Ruby extended her hand to pat Aileene’s head, as she lay on her arms, on a cleared part of the table where all of the tea and treats had been moved away. Honestly, it wasn’t as if Aileene hadn’t already thought about all the words of comfort that her friends would tell. It was more of the fact that she hadn’t been able to make the peace that she wanted. Before all hell broke loose on the day the Academy finally starts for all of them, she at least wanted some harmony.
Though, now that her plan was rejected. She could only be disheartened and dejected, but there was nothing more that she could do. She was simply resigned to her fate.
“Wait, it’s already 2?! I’m going to be late for my lesson!” Ruby hurriedly said, interrupting Aileene’s dejected play as she stood up and quickly rush out of the garden, away from her two momentarily dazed friends.
“What just happened?” Aileene asked Xi, not moving her gaze from Ruby’s dot of a figure running out of sight.
“Oh, yeah. After a well-placed accident she had experienced while horse riding, Ruby had gotten her parents to make Edmund her trainer.” Xi explained briefly, also watching Ruby’s departing figure. Turning back to look at Aileene, they both shake their head. The plan was so delicately done that either Ruby was in love or she was obsessed. Maybe both, at this point who could guess?

And as time went on, Aileene had soon forgotten about her failed attempt at friendship with the heroine. Instead as the new year approaches, her 14th birthday also approaches. The day that marked only another year before she would be enrolled in Austrion Academy.
At this point, after so many years of mentally preparing herself. Aileene felt as if she had had enough, her new year resolution was a hard vow to herself.
‘No mention of anything relating to the game, Vain, whether in thoughts or speech.’
It was honestly, a simple goal to achieve. But to someone as hardpressed on overthinking and planning. It was as if her favorite toy was being taken away from her. Though, it wasn’t only a metaphor. She did lock away the book that she had received a few months back, ‘Fate of a Villainess.’ It was seldom to be mentioned and the key was given to a maid she trusted to hide it away until a year later.
This last year, world system, just watch her relax all she can!
