Vain - Chapter 58 Responsibilities
These past few days had been hell for Kira, she was wrought with mess after mess and there were so many responsibilities stacked for her. That every time she looked at her desk, messy and scattered with paper, she almost wanted to cry. Why did no one warn her of the struggle? Miss President, where are you?! Why leave her here with this workaholic, she was suffering.
Speak of the devil and he shall come. The minute she had even thought of him, Seti Capra walked through her office door. (It used to be her senior’s office, but now that she had disappeared, it was her temporary office.) Seti had became her vice-president and he was very serious about his work. he was thorough, making sure she made no mistake and that she didn’t neglect her duty. He nagged her almost every day and now every time she saw him. She was conditioned to cringe.
His serious expression and uptight demeanor, she wanted to escape back to her room. She missed her carefree days left alone to her own devices. Why must her father be so cruel, what was wrong with her being a little averse to social interactions, that couldn’t be a crime right?
“Your father asked for you. He told me when he saw me this morning.” Seti walked in and Kira sat up straighter, he stared at her for only a bit before setting down another set of documents on her table. She sighed internally when she noticed the pile on her table growing larger, she sniffs back any tears that were brought to her eyes and stood up from her seat. She needed to go see her father and maybe complain a little. She made sure not to make eye contact with Seti and quickly escaped the room.
Seti sat down at Kira’s desk once she had left, it seemed that she really didn’t like him. When she left just now, she looked like she was running away from some big terror. Was he really that scary? He didn’t think so. Being responsible and completing your tasks on time shouldn’t be something bad, but she acted as if he was a big misfortune brought before her every time she saw him. In the end, he only shook his head and took over the work that she had left behind. He didn’t want her to get to overwork, so he’ll get rid of some papers on her pile.

Kira finally exhaled in relief, she was finally away from Seti. That suffocating atmosphere. And she was finally far enough from those papers that she didn’t feel like she was on the verge of a panic attack. Now all she needed to do was go see what her father wanted.
Without a doubt, it was probably going to be a lecture. It was his favorite pastime after all if it wasn’t lecturing her. It was probably lecturing other students or making speeches. Her father was just conceited enough that he liked the sound of his own voice. He enjoyed it so much so that all day every day he would just speak in that long-winded way to extend the time that he was talking. She couldn’t understand how her mother had fallen in love with him.
Kira had even asked once, but she was just told that her father loved her mother more than he loved himself, so that’s why it worked out in the end. That bit of information she could understand when she was younger, her mother was really such a beautiful woman. Back in the day, when she heard that her mother was close to becoming queen as she was the most desired woman in the noble circle of Kinlar. In the end, the king had married the late queen, even with her ordinary status and her mother married her father. After a few years of marriage, she was born and her father was assigned as principal to Austrion Academy. She was engaged to the young prince born in the same year as her.
This had only happened because her mother was quite close to the late queen, they had become friends after their marriage and would spend a lot of time together gossiping and drinking tea. They had an admirable relationship, each woman was strong in her own right and her mother would speak fondly of her memories with the late queen.
From then on Kira had grown up with the little prince, but he was quite busy, being the royal couple only child. She had only seen him a few times during her childhood. They had never been close and could not even be called childhood friends. Which made her a little apprehensive about their engagement. But she didn’t want to disappoint her parents by rejecting. And even if she wanted to reject, she needed to ask herself, was it easy to reject royalty?
So she could only hope that Lucian would reject it himself, but he hadn’t said a single thing all these years. She wasn’t sure what his thoughts were, she wasn’t even sure who he was. Since they had so little interactions. With her lack of will to start talking to anyone without them talking to her first and his outwardly coldness. They were a good pair for not fostering any good feelings.
After a whole retelling of her childhood and life to herself, she finally reached her father’s office. It was in the clock tower at the front building of the school. He had made it the highest floor, as if to mock the students that would be sent to his tower for being naughty. They would have to suffer to physical exertion that was climbing thousands of endless stairs. She would have to commend him for that, it was truly an inhuman punishable. ‘But have you ever thought that the one that’s suffering the most is your own daughter? Who has to visit you the most because you’re her father!’
Kira sighed once again in despair, she was a bit out of breath. She knocked the door to her father’s office, imagining any sort of wrongs that she might have done for him to call her in.
