Veiled Love - Chapter 20 She Took For Granted

Soo Jin’s days at the palace were no different than her days back in her maiden house except; every morning she would wake up and get ready and greet the king and queen.

After the greeting, the queen would as usual be dismissed. The king would then ask her to join him for breakfast that after a couple weeks, he no longer asked, and it became a routine to dine with him.

Ever since their last meal together, Soo Jin has not seen the crown prince. For the first two weeks, she would go to greet she would be told that he was busy, or he was at the training ground.

She hasn’t seen her husband for over 2 months. Every time the king would enquire about the crown prince seeing her or spending the night, she would fib.

Being a married woman for a whole 2 months, Soo Jin felt like she hasn’t seen her family in over 20 years. She missed them dearly.

One of the conditions that the king informed her off was that she would see and visit her family once a week outside of the palace after 3 months of marriage. This last month seemed to be dragging.

Every night she laid on her bed, reminiscing about the time in family home. The tears were non-stop, it became a ritual to cry every night. The love and attention she received from her family, she now understood she took for granted.

Having Yumo, Jin Ae and Yoo Jung with her lessened loneliness by a small percentage but it was not the same as having her mother, father and brothers.

As Soo Jin spent most of her days with the king, he noticed that the lively girl was no longer her usual self. Her bright eyes were no longer as bright as the moon but rather dim and lifeless.

Seeing his beautiful daughter in law like this broke his heart. After Soo Jin left after eating breakfast with him one morning, he called his head eunuch and the captain of his private soldiers.

“I will be going out incognito, I will bring Soo Jin with me as she hasn’t been herself. Arrange the necessary duties. Also, no- one can know.” Commanded the king.

Both the captain and head eunuch looked at each in utter shock.

“Your majesty, today is the lantern festival. The streets will be more busy and hard for us to keep control.” Said the captain with his brows furrowed.

“Today is the lantern festival? That is perfect, Soo Jin will love it.” Said the king with delight on his face.

“But your majesty” the head eunuch felt like his was aging so fast due to stress.

“That’s enough, make the necessary arrangements.” The king finalised his command. Both the captain and the head eunuch made their way out with their heads hanging low.

After two hours of preparation, the king sat in a carriage with a dazed girl. Soo Jin was staring at the king with a blank expression like she could not believe that she was outside the palace walls.
