Veiled Love - Chapter 5 Are You Questioning My Judgement?

” Aba mama! You want me to marry a girl who the world has never seen” Lee Yong- Sun sarcastically questioned.

“Yong- Sun, are you questioning my judgement?” rebuked King Yeong Jo.

“Your father has yours and this nation’s best interest at heart” added Queen Jung Sun

Crown prince without making eye contact coldly asked “Wangbi, please explain to me how marrying a girl who has had face covered for most of her life and is fragile as flower can help me or this great nation?”

“Enough Wangseja, this wedding is happening whether you like it or not. Dae-Janggun Han Jung will bring his daughter this time tomorrow, you can meet her and also request to see her face if that’s all you care for.” King Yeong Jo sternly looked his son and challenged him to reject.

‘I know you only agreed to this because that woman has pillow talked you into it. Only if you knew that all she prays for is my downfall’ Lee Yong -Sun thought and he slowly stood up, bowed and exited the room. Queen Jung Sun eyes danced as she felt she succeeded at the first step of her plan.

“Jeonha, have you informed the great general’s house of your decision?” excitedly asked Queen Jung Sun.

“Yes, I have called Dae- Janggun into the place this morning and informed of the marriage proposal, he said that he would go home and discussed it with his family. I should receive his decision later this afternoon.”

” Do you think he’ll refuse your marriage proposal? I highly doubt that he would reject this nation’s king.” Queen Jung Sun questioned and answered her own question. To the king her questions seemed like she was concerned, however this was her way of adding fuel to the fire.

” Your Majesty, Dae Janggun would like an audience with you” the head eunuch announced.

” See him in” commanded King Yeong Jo. Turning to his queen, King Yeong Jo said ” leave us to it my queen.”

Queen Jung Sun pouted as she stood up, bowed and made her way out.

After her departure, the great general Han Jung made his entrance.

“Dae Janggun, good to see you are back so soon I am guessing you have some good news for me.” stated KingYeong Jo upon seeing the great general.

General Han Jung bowed and took a seat in front of the king. Once seated, Soo Jin’s father spoke ” Yes your majesty, I have come to thank you for bestowing this golden opportunity on our family. I have informed my family about your decree and they are all ecstatic and thank you with their heart.”

” Great, great. Good to know everyone is happy. I have dreamt about this day since the birth of my son. As you already know you have been my most trustworthy minister as well as a great friend, joining families through marriage with you is a great blessing.” expressed the king.

“My King, please excuse this lowly servant of yours, I have a favour I would like accepted on behalf of my daughter.” Voiced Soo Jin’s father with his eye facing downwards with a cold sweat running down his back.

” My great general, I will accept anything you asked of me. Your contribution to this country has surpassed what my forefathers have done for this great nation. Please let me know your requests.” praised the king smiling ear to ear.

” My king, my daughter would like her her wet nurse and two personal maids to come with her to the palace.” Soo Jin’s father while slowly looking up at the kings face.

” Of course, of course thats not an issue. That is nothing but small request. Granted!! Do you have any more requests?” asked the king while chuckling at his dear friend.

” She and the rest of the family have requested ” replied Soo Jin’s father as hesitation was evident in his voice and eye.

“Go on” prompted the king curiosity eating at him.

“Well, we would like my daughter to keep her veil on.” Blurted out the Soo Jin’s father.

” Ermmm. My dear general, I do not think that’s possible. Even I have not seen her face, we have never had a royal family with masked face.” stated the king.

” My King, even it is not an issue I can bring her to visit you tomorrow and you can see for yourself why we cover her face.” said Soo Jin with hope in his eyes.

The king was a bit taken back by the general’s request. He had heard about the rumour’s regarding the future crown princess, however, he never cared for them. He knew that Han Soo Jin was veiled and no-one has ever laid eyes on her except for the Han family, he believed her becoming the crown princess the Hans would use this opportunity to put an end to the rumour. He never expected that they would request to keep the veil on.

” Okay, we will go with your idea and I will inform you of my decision to your request once I meet my future daughter in law. The crown prince will is also be present.” informed the king.

Soo Jin’s father was elated but he did not show it.He said his greetings to the king and made his way out to report this family about his discussion with the king.
