Veiled Love - Chapter 9 Characteristics Of A True Queen

Early next morning, a decree from the king arrived. The royal secretariat and the head eunuch of the king came to the Han family household, only the females members of the Han family was present.

The royal secretariat started to speak ” The King decree reads as follows ‘ I am over the moon to have both our family joining through this royal union. The wedding will happen in the next 4 days from today and I would like my daughter in law to come into the palace early. I know she is in no safer hands than the Han household, but I want her in the palace under my care. As she has requested to bring her Yomo and her two personal maids, I have agreed. I wish for Jin’a to have a safe journey to the palace.”

Soo Jin knew that this decree was coming but as soon as the decree was read, it hit her hard. The reality of it all was finally sinking in. Her mother was right beside her when the decree was read out loud, what her mother felt was a bittersweet.

She hugged her daughter and told her that she will visit as soon as she settles down. She tried so hard to hold in her tears but it was impossible. The pearl like tears rolled down her mother’s cheeks.

Soo Jin’s three sister in laws were also present, she slowly walked up to them and gave each one of them hugs and told them to come visit her as much as they can. When her goodbyes were done, Soo Jin made her way to Eunuch and took her seat in palanquin.

Beside her palanquin were her wet nurse and her two personal maids. Soo Jin was sitting inside the palanquin without any emotions, she sat still like statue. Anyone who looked at her at that very moment would see that she no longer cared for anything. She was longer living life as a human by more like a puppet.

She never thought in million years that she would be entering a loveless marriage. She came from a household where her mother and father fell in love at first, her two of her brothers did the chasing until their wives fell in with them and her other brother, his wife did the chasing until he fell for her. In deep thought, Soo Jin was thinking of the crown prince and he reacted yesterday; she knew that it was love at first and she also understood that he did not like her.

She noticed the looks he was giving her, he was blaming her for something and she did not know what she had done.

“Miss Han, we will be departing now. The sun will be setting soon.” The eunuch informed Soo Jin. No words were spoking, the eunuch understood the silence as a Yes.

The palanquin started moving. Through the curtains inside the palanquin, Soo Jin could hear the whispers of the people as they stood to the side and watched. It was known to the whole of HanYang that the crown prince will be marrying the young miss of the Han household.

Many people were joyous for the Han family, they knew that the Han family were outstanding and that they were the only family to join relations with the royal family.

However there were many people who were sceptical of Minister Han’s daughter as no-one has ever seen her face. Soo Jin could the sniggering of some people and the joyous laughter of others as they genuinely believed that she had the beauty of a supernatural being.

The noise out of the palanquin did not bother Soo Jin, she got used to the rumours years back.

Outside the palanquin, Soo jin heard the eunuch address her; “Miss Han, are you alright in there.”

“Yes sir, I am fine, just enjoying the view.” Lied Soo Jin. The Eunuch heard Soo Jin’s sweet, lovely and polite voice and instantly felt like he was walking on the clouds. He found it quite amazing how she addressed everyone the same. She did not act like spoilt young Miss from wealthy, powerful family. She treated everyone with respect, he personally felt she had the characteristics of a true queen.

The eunuch came back to reality and noticed that he went silent after her answer. To make the young Miss more comfortable, he decided to continue to speak with and tell her about the palace. His small talk was not reject by Soo Jin, she welcomed it with open arms and it made her more calm and comfortable.
