Vengeance Upon Fate - Chapter 30
Hiroki and Taro froze in fear, cautiously staring at the menacing creature.
“Crusty shit sickles.”
“It actually found us..”
Kurogane walked over and was behind both brothers in seconds, startling them slightly as he stared at the beast as well.
“Get behind me if you want to live.”
Kurogane drawled out his sword and held it with one hand in a horizontal, defensive position.
Both brothers nodded and drew out their iron swords, holding them vertically with both hands.
(I can’t let this monster roam these forests. It will only cause harm to other travelers. If I stop it with these two, it will do this forest a favor.)
The dark beast was dark grayish black in color and stood on all four feet, reaching nearly 3 meters tall, around 2 meters long and about seven feet wide.
It had silver teeth that looked no different than thick needles, a purple stripe that appeared from its head till the other end of its back topped with razor sharp, graphite blades that bulged from its curved back.
The lengthy ash colored horn, sharp demonic glowing red eyes, bladed silver claws and silver face spikes were mere additions to the deadliness of its appearance.
Worst of all, it was overflowing with shadow energy. It was strong enough to the point that a dark aura could be seen emitting from its body on all regions.
Taro and Hiroki were extremely scared – their hearts pounded rapidly and their bodies were already sweating uncontrollably.
The beast growled, and within a few seconds it’s horn started to turn black, absorbing and compressing what appeared to be shadow energy into a ball-like shape. The line and blades on its back began to light up purple as well, giving nothing less than a bad omen for the three.
“Prepare to move!” Shouted Kurogane.
“G-Got it!”
“Just give us the signal!”
After a short delay, multiple strikes of black lightning shot out of the energy ball, impacting multiple areas towards the trio.
“Now!”
Kurogane immediately jumped to the side, soaring around eight feet high until he securely landed with his feet and left palm.
The two brothers leapt in opposite sides, dodging the ongoing strikes that made contact with the ground in-between them, resulting in a large explosion.
Both shielded their faces with their arms, attempting to block any pressure and debris.
“Keep moving!”
Kurogane noticed that the energy ball was still present, and knew right away that the beast would keep releasing more strikes.
“It’s going to strike again, don’t stop now!”
As anticipated, another round of lightning shot out, each strike targeting at least one of the three.
Both brothers panicked and rolled over as another strike made an impact on the floor nearby them.
They laid on the floor on their chests, covering their head to avoid any danger from the explosion.
(Damn. If I don’t do anything now, it’s going to release a third wave… they can only dodge so much.)
Kurogane shifted into his dashing position then immediately began sprinting swiftly to land an aggressive strike.

The beast noticed that Kurogane was making his move, but before it could do anything, Kurogane vanished, reappearing behind it slightly towards its left – inches from landing a fatal blow to its side region. Wuxiaworld for visiting.
“A good beast is the one that dies..”
The beast’s eyes fixated immediately on Kurogane, slightly startling him from the rather quick reaction time it showed.
(…..What?)
Suddenly, a transparent, dark purple force field appeared, electrocuting and pushing back Kurogane.
{Urghhh}
He flew backwards, twirling until gaining control as he landed on his feet and leaned down. The force was so great that he had to use one of his arms to stabilize himself, sliding back a few feet in the process.
(A force field..?)
This took Kurogane by surprise, as he was not expecting a monster of this size to be this sharp with quick offensive and defensive capabilities.
Both brothers noticed the sudden ability, quickly pulling themselves together and returning to their battle stance.
“Damnit, touching that thing won’t be easy!”
“No argument there…”
With the concern being much greater than anticipated, Kurogane let out a frown before commanding the other two.
“Let’s split up. It won’t get the three of us that easily if we aren’t as close to each other.”
“Roger that.”
“Got it”
The dark beast turned towards Kurogane and began to charge towards him with an abnormally great amount of speed.
Kurogane jumped to the side, evading the charge completely.
However, it was too soon to act otherwise, as the beast suddenly vanished.
…?
(Did it just..?)
The beast was now behind Kurogane, it’s arm raised with its claws three times the length, pitch black in color from the shadow energy being used.
Kurogane’s eyes locked onto it from behind – his face in shock from what he witnessed. Clearly, he hadn’t seen enough of this monster’s capabilities.
He attempted to turn around and at least repel some of the impact, but was certain that he wouldn’t be fast enough, as he was caught completely off guard.
(I’m not going to make it..)
{Thnnk}
A large stone crashed into the head of the beast, causing it to flinch and lose its claw enchantment.
Hiroki, who was panting rapidly had thrown a large stone with both of his hands to distract the monster.
“Nice one bud!”
“Hehe.. you can properly thank me later.”
The beast had dashed backwards after impact, growling and fiercely glaring at Hiroki, who gave Kurogane the dire opportunity to get away.
Knowing that he was going to be the primary target now, he started to tremble.
(Shit, if it uses any spells, I’m done for… I can’t dodge and counter like Kurogane.)
The beast began to charge its shadow energy again, slowly balling it up on its horn.
Kurogane knew that he could not let it build up its elemental essence in peace, and instantly made a move in hopes to cause a disturbance in the very least.
(Oh no you don’t…)

Kurogane vanished and reappeared several feet above the beast, his sword bursting with shadow energy from the post buff Midnight Stride had applied.
“Dusk Surge!”
Kurogane ambidextrously swung his sword, releasing a long, thick wave of shadow energy, directly impacting the beast below and causing a large explosion in the process.
Both brothers watched in absolute amazement.
“Direct hit baby!”
“I’m speechless…”
Kurogane landed a few meters away, maintaining his battle stance to prepare any necessary counter attack.
(Something’s not right… It’s too quiet.)
Neither of the three could see through the blackened plumes of smoke.
Just then, Kurogane heard a distinct noise, the volume of it increasing by the second.
(It’s charging energy again – no, it should be nearly done by now. This is bad.)
“Both of you, be careful!”
Multiple strikes of shadow energy raced their way out of the smoke, impacting multiple areas in its surroundings.
Kurogane jumped backwards, now several feet airborne.
(The projectiles shouldn’t reach me up here.)
Multiple explosions occurred, and even though both brothers managed to evade just in time, they were still affected by the aftermath of the explosion.
{Argh}
{Urghh}
Kurogane, still airborne looked at them with concern, but before he could react, his peripheral vision caught a glimpse of another projectile emerging from the plume of smoke below, rapidly heading in his direction.
He crossed his arms to attempt to protect himself.
(SON OF A!}
Upon getting hit directly from the projectile, it left a massive explosion that created a black cloud in the air.
{Urraaghh}
The force of the explosion impact was immense, sending Kurogane crashing to the floor. His body dragged further upon impact, leaving a trail through the ground.
Taro, who was nearly standing up again after falling to the side, watched in horror from what he just witnessed.
“No..”
…
“KUROGANE!”
