Villain: The Play of Destiny - Chapter 438
Qingyue did not even bother with any test shots before taking on the targets, and each of her shots hit the bullseye.
Feifei and Rouxi watched her shoot arrow after arrow on the mark, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, and then at 100 metres.
Even though she had hit all five arrows on the bullseye for the 100-metre target, she did not proceed to jump straight in at the 115-metre target.
She finally tested the shot at the dummy that was right next to the real target, assessing the wind, and only after one shot, she proceeded to hit Bullseye with all her attempts at the target.
The process continued until she hit the 200m mark, and by now, people were looking at her as if she were some monster.
“Are you taking them on too?” Feifei gulped and asked as she watched Qingyue staring at the 225m target and checking it on the screen as well.
“The wind is good.” She nodded.
“There is no wind.” Feifei raised her brow and then realised that’s what Qingyue meant.
“Exactly.”
Just like before, she tested the shot on the dummy first before taking the target on, and only after one shot, she nocked the arrow and then set the angle for the target.
Everyone followed the arrow as it was set loose, and their hearts slowed down a little when it started descending.
Rouxi turned to look at the screen, and she narrowed her eyes when she saw the arrow pierce the bullseye.
As soon as the first arrow hit the mark, Qingyue, who had already nocked the second, set it loose. And just like before, this one hit the bullseye too.
Three more, and they were all on the target as well.
“Easy.”
She flashed a bright smile at Keith, who was staring at her, and a blush crept on her cheeks at the warmth in his eyes.
He chuckled a little and then glanced at the screen.
“250?” He asked and watched Qingyue nod her head.
“I can make it,” She confidently replied and then got into the position.
Qingyue pressed the control switch and raised the 250-meter target, and the people just turned deathly silent at the sight.
Rouxi, who only ever hit that mark once, glanced at Qingyue, taking note of the angle and the draw, and then she turned to the screen as soon as the arrow was set loose.
Though she did not make a test shot this time, she did manage to hit the bullseye on the very first shot. The second, third, and fourth shots were all on the target as well, but the fifth, despite hitting the bullseye, looked slightly amiss.
It was still a perfect score though, and Feifei immediately cheered for her when she saw the result.
“That was 820 feet!” She exclaimed as she excitedly hugged the grey-eyed girl. “You are top good!”
“Thanks.” Qingyue graciously smiled and then ardently looked at Keith, waiting for the praise.
“It’s easy.” He grinned at her, repeating her earlier comment, and Qingyue had this sudden urge to step forward and smack a punch in his abdomen.
“Hmph!” She looked away and then threw a glare at him when he started chuckling.
“You nearly missed the last shot.”
“But I didn’t.” She rolled her eyes, and Feifei giggled at their interaction.
“275?” He teasingly asked and nodded when Qingyue immediately shook her head.
“Too many people are watching.”
“So, do you want to try and beat her perfect score?” She challengingly looked at him and laughed when he threw his hands up in the air.
“I just want to watch beautiful girls practising archery today. Don’t spoil my fun.”
“Right.” Feifei laughed again and then looked at her best friend, who was putting on her glove. “Good luck, Rou!”
“Thanks.” The Child of Destiny faintly smiled at her and then nodded at Qingyue before taking the spot.
She quickly worked on the control panel and changed the profile, resetting the targets. And within two minutes, she was ready to go.
The wind was indeed absent today, and even then, she took the test shots before proceeding to attempt the targets.
She seemed to be in no rush, and Qingyue could not help but approvingly nod in her heart.
Rouxi was smart enough to not allow someone to overwhelm and dictate her pace. It was a remarkable quality to possess together with the competitiveness that burned in her eyes.
The targets seemed a little too easy for her as well. And it was only after reaching the 100-meter mark that she spent some more time taking the test shots at the dummy.
And this time, she switched to the thumb-release, and Qingyue narrowed her eyes when she saw the technique.
Instead of the traditional Persian thumb draw, where the two fingers were on the right side for a double hook with the thumb, in this technique that Rouxi used, she had her forefinger on the left side. It was still a double-hook, and yet quite different.
She remembered Keith teaching her this drawing technique, and it was called the Dragon’s Draw. A technique that was very famous in the Heavens with the Magical Bows and arrows that were used there.
Rouxi took a deep breath and set the arrow loose once again at the dummy. Satisfied with the result, she finally attempted the target and smiled when she hit Bullseye with all five of her arrows.
It was clear that she was happy with her performance, and then she attempted the next targets with the same technique.
The crowd was not as shocked this time as they witnessed another outrageous display of Archery, but as Rouxi kept gathering up the perfect score, their excitement rose.
However, she failed to on the 225-metre target. Three arrows had hit the bullseye, but two narrowly missed it.
It was still a great result though, and Keith smiled when Rouxi did not fret over it and simply set up the 250-metre target.
She had only once ever made the bullseye at this range, and today, she was determined to better herself.
Rouxi again took her time as she tested the shots at the dummy, and only when she was ready, did she take on the target.
She frowned a little with the first arrow narrowly missed the bullseye, and where the crowd was impressed that she even hit the target, she was not happy at all.
Nocking up the second arrow, she attempted again, and seeing the same result, she frowned some more.
No one said anything to her as she seemed totally engrossed in the process, and they remained quiet even when the third arrow failed to hit the bullseye.
Rouxi relaxed after the third shot and took a few deep breaths before getting in the position again, and Keith smiled when he saw the arrow fly towards its mark.
It was a bullseye this time, and the crowd subconsciously cheered for her. And their cheers only rose when the fifth arrow hit the bullseye again.
“You are good.” Qingyue was the first one to speak, and she genuinely smiled at the Child of Destiny.
“Thank you.” And Rouxi was pleased with the praise since it was coming from someone better than her.
“Don’t you think the two of you are a little mean to me?” Feifei suddenly spoke, making them both turn to look at her. “There is no way I can beat either of these scores!” She pouted, and all of them laughed at her antics.
“Good luck.” Keith wished her, and she blushed a little as she readied herself for her turn.
Though she was not as good as Rouxi and Qingyue, Feifei was no slouch at Archery. She was good, in fact, very good. It was just unfair to compare her talent in Archery to the unreal talent that the other two possessed.
Feifei managed to gather perfect scores all the way up to 90 meters, which was already over the largest range in the Olympics. Then again, Aurors did not participate in the events of ordinary mortals, and those records did not mean anything to people like Feifei and Rouxi.
Most people in their social class knew the truth that a lot more talented people existed in the world than the ones who appeared on television.
Feifei merrily laughed when she managed to hit the bullseye with four of her attempts at the 100-meter target, her new best, and then she proceeded to attempt the longer targets.
She was not looking to best the scores of her friends. What she wanted to best was herself, and she had already achieved it today.
Her eyes winded in dismay when she managed to hit the bullseye on her last attempt at the 200-meter target, and then she grinned at Keith.
“Did you see that?” She excitedly asked, and he chuckled and nodded his head.
“Nice.”
“I am the best!” She declared before she attempted the next target, and even Rouxi and Qingyue were surprised at the result. “No way…” Feifie dumbly stared at the screen when her very first attempt hit the mark, but then her excitement rose more.
One after the other, her arrows kept hitting the bullseye, and when she got all five on the target, she grinned ear to ear as she turned to look at her friend.
“I win!” She declared, and seeing Rouxi dumbly stare at her, she burst out laughing.
Feifei decided not to take on the 250-meter mark as she had understood what was going on, and then she arrived by her friend’s side and leaned close to her ear.
“It’s Keith.” She told her.
“Oh…”
Later, the four of them arrived in the parking lot, deciding to not continue the practice as the place became crowded, and Feifei finally turned to look at him and questioned him.
“Why did you do it?” She curiously asked, but inwardly she was quite happy.
“Don’t you know it?” He smiled at her, and seeing her shake her head, he chuckled. “Your friend, Wang Sisi, brought a young man with her. She was watching you, and they were both holding the Archery equipment. I guessed they planned on challenging you, so, I made them think again about it.”
“Good!” She laughed and then unceremoniously stepped forward to hug him. “Thank you.” She quickly said and then escaped before he could do something to her.
Rouxi sneaked a glance at him, but soon she was lost in her thoughts.
“Do you want to practice more?” Qingyue knowingly asked, and Rouxi smiled and shook her head.
“There are too many people there now. I don’t like having eyes on me.”
“Well, we can practice at the Estate. I will show you some really interesting Bows, much better than the ones we used earlier.”
Her words piqued the interest of the two girls, and Feifei immediately agreed.
“Let’s go!”
