Voyage With The Pirate King - Chapter 368
The clattering footsteps halted followed by low pitched groans and a crackling sound like someone was choking. That’s because a powerful long tail was protruding from behind the kneeling man.
Its black scales with mesmerizing golden patterns looked dazzling under the light making one want to stroke it. But right now that gorgeous tail was being used as a powerful weapon strangling the neck of the man who dared disturb him.
The man’s body was dangling above ground his face red and the veins under the skin of his neck pulsing like they were going to burst with just a little more force.
Despite the distressing sounds coming from behind the Huishe clan leader continued to light up the rest of the candles his expression solemn. It was only after he was done did he let go of the man behind him.
The tail slowly unravelled and with a dull thud, the man’s body fell to the ground. Lucky for him he fell on the soft lawn that more or less felt like a padded carpet. Clutching his sore neck with a reddened face he coughed violently struggling to catch his breath.
Despite this violent episode the man frantically spoke in between coughs. At first, he didn’t make any sense at all with words like ‘activity’ and ‘crack’.
The clan leader slowly tilted his head to look at him his heart violently beating against his chest. “Speak clearly!!!” he bellowed as he got up to meet the man’s terrified gaze.
He was scared witless but he still met the clan leader’s gaze. He was fully aware that bowing meant it would get him beaten half to death. Though he toughened up and held his gaze his pupils were trembling betraying his true feelings. Swallowing his fear he tried to calm his mind and speak clearly, “There is activity on the horizon. Our intelligence on the Qilin clan’s plans was accurate.”
The black tail with golden patterns vanished leaving behind gold flakes. With his brow creased he walked over to the entrance of the garden. Because the garden was situated atop the highest peak in the Huishe clan he had a clear view of the horizon without any obstructions.
On the horizon was a bright flash of pink cutting across the sky which was an unusual thing in this place. The only time something like this ever happened was five decades ago and at that time people had no idea what was happening.
That was the day that a lot of clans lost their loved ones. From that day onwards the hatred towards the Qilin clan intensified and another war almost broke out. If it weren’t for the Qilin clan’s expertise in concealing themselves the entire clan would have been wiped out.
The Huishe clan leader was also enraged and at that time, he flew directly into the Qilin clan and vent out his anger. He even fought one on one with the Qilin clan leader. Though he didn’t manage to kill him he left a nasty deep scar down the man’s back. From then on the Qilin clan leader was smarter which meant this opportunity to exact revenge only came once.
But the Huishe clan leader didn’t expect that the Qilin clan hadn’t yet given up. They were planning on repeating the events of five decades ago. Since it was like so then he would use this opportunity to get his twins back.
“Mobilise everyone… it’s time we lay waste of the Qilin clan,” he said before his entire body was shrouded in bright light. Soon a black Huishe with distinct golden patterns leapt into the sky shaking the ground and surrounding vegetation like a violent storm reaping through land causing havoc.
The attendant fell to the ground from the tremendous force but he didn’t dawdle. He hastily got on his feet and lit the statues by the entrance of the garden to alert the clan members at the bottom of the peak. As the blue lights shot out in the sky everyone immediately dropped what they were doing and began to bustle about as though preparing for battle.
The women and men in the Huishe clan changed into armoured robes while they readied for war. The women were indeed weak but because of the possibility of their spouses having outbursts during combat, they had to be brought along. Soon the clan was empty leaving behind a few caretakers and cubs that hadn’t come of age yet.
As the figures of the clan members disappeared into the horizon a figure stood by the window of an isolated courtyard with an unreadable look in her eyes. She was a beautiful woman with almond-shaped eyes and plump lips that made one unconsciously stare at them for a second longer than they should.
She had a feeling something big was happening and it made her a little anxious though she didn’t show it on her face. She was pretty good at masking her true feelings.
If Huishe Yue comes back then her comfortable life would change drastically. Ever since he went missing she was treated like a jewel by the entire clan. She lacked nothing because the clan leader made sure of it. But if her estranged husband came back then things might not be the same anymore.
While she was thinking through what she should do next a milky voice that hadn’t yet been affected by puberty called out, “Mum.”
Wei Wei turned around with her long hair sweeping past her waist and answered with a serious look on her face. “How many times have I told you to stop sneaking up on me?” she asked as she walked over to him.
In front of her was a boy draped in a blue robe embroidered with silver patterns. His face was screaming youth with skin so soft you would think water would come out if you squeeze it. With a lowered head he lightly pouted his lips and said, “I am sorry….. it’s just that I heard that grandfather is going to bring father back. Can… can I go too.”
A trace of panic showed in her eyes but it quickly vanished. Her cub hadn’t yet awakened and couldn’t go to the front line even if she wanted him to go. She always hoped that he would differentiate as a Pixiu otherwise if he took after his father then the truth would come out. But it seems now they couldn’t wait any longer because it seemed Huishe Yue was coming back home.
They had to leave this place soon otherwise they would suffer a tragic end. She was about to tell him that they had to go somewhere for a while when she heard an attendant announcing the arrival of someone.
She touched her son’s cheek and said, “Be good and make yourself scarce.” The boy obediently left for his room as she walked to the door to open it.
Outside in the courtyard was her graceful mother-in-law who had shown her so much love over the years. Her always calm gaze was absent today and her eyes had traces of having cried. She reached out to hold Wei Wei’s hand and said, “Daughter…. let’s be in each other’s company until they return.”
