VRMMORPG: Dragomancer Reborn - Chapter 244: Putting The Cart Before The Man
Val didn’t know how Arthur could tell the amount of coins in a closed pouch.
“Just practice.” Arthur spoke. “Of course, I don’t expect it to be exact. But should be approximate.” He added.
“Whoa, you could tell that just from practice? That’s cool. But yeah, you’re close… 42 silver and 78 Copper coins, to be exact.” Val responded, feeling a bit awed.
“That’s a decent amount. And you said you didn’t get all the corpses, either?” Arthur questioned.
“Yeah. Several were rotting, or were eaten by other animals. Also, players had discovered the ‘free’ loot and quickly started searching for more by the time I was done with half the corpses I had.” Val explained.
“That was bound to happen,” Arthur replied. “As for the coins, you can keep them.” He said, much to the girl’s surprise.
“Whaaaaaa—” The girl was speechless.
42 silver coins was a big amount to her, at least at this point in the game and she couldn’t believe that Arthur was just willing to give that to her. She had originally suggested to gather the corpses, not for the coins, but so that she could repay Arthur for giving her the plant core.
But now Arthur was just giving up on the profits.
“I don’t need it. Plus, I think it would be of a much better use to you than me.” Arthur stated. “Buy better equipment, as well as skills. You should have enough to make a bow now right?” he suggested.
“I do yes!” Val nodded like a chick pecking grains on the ground. “I even talked to the blacksmiths and they are willing to make the right kind of bow. I can buy some materials, but the cost might be higher than this. Thus, I just need to gather them now.” She added.
“Hmmm… gathering materials.” Arthur stroked his chin. “I think I have an idea of what we’ll be doing today, then.”
Val’s eyes lit up after hearing that, as she could guess from Arthur’s words.
“Do you know where to gather the materials for the bow!?” Val asked excitedly.
“Of course. It’ll also net you some experience at the same time.” Arthur answered. “But first, we gotta make a few stops.” He added.
“Sure!” Val agreed and went along. “Where are we going first?” She asked.
“We’re going somewhere close actually,” Arthur replied and took her to a small stable next to the guild.
This place had no players around since the guards were actively preventing them from coming here. The horses and other materials here were valuable, and as such, they didn’t want the ‘nosy otherworlders’ to damage them.
The players had already done so before and were now strictly kept out. In fact, if not for the fact that Arthur was venerated in Roran town, he wouldn’t be able to enter here either.
The players had made a free area ‘reputation only’ area due to their own actions. The guards knew Arthur from just taking a look and as such, they didn’t stop him and Val when they entered the area.
This also made it so that Arthur didn’t have to worry about the players watching his actions. They were going to be very suspicious after all.
“Huh? A stable?” Val looked at the horses as well as the carriages that were kept there. “Are we getting a horse? But aren’t they very expensive to hire? At least for now.” She asked, feeling curious.
“Not a horse… we’re getting a cart,” Arthur replied.
“A cart? OH! I know what you’re gonna do.” Val felt a bulb light up in her head.
“And what’s that?” Arthur asked with a raised brow.
“You’re gonna use your beetle pet to pull it, aren’t you?” She guessed.
“Nope.” Arthur shook his head.
“Then what?” Val asked.
“You’ll see.” Arthur replied and went up to the person working in the stable. “You just wait here.”
Val waited there and saw Arthur talk to the stable boy for a minute before handing him two silver coins and returning.
“Alright, we got a cart rented.” Arthur said to Val and walked up to the Cart that was parked near the exit of the Stable.
“How are we going to pull this cart?” Val questioned looking at the Cart that was about the size of a SUV.
No matter what angle one looked at it from, it was clearly meant to be drawn by either horses or other beasts of burden.
“We are going to do it ourselves. Or rather I am,” Arthur replied.
“WHAT?!” Val looked at Arthur with wide eyes.
It was clear that she couldn’t believe his words.
“Yep.” Arthur said in a flat tone.
“But… how?” She asked, feeling confused.
“Did you forget what game we are in?” Arthur questioned.
“Morpheus Online?” Val answered.
“And what limits are there in the game?” Arthur asked next.
“None?” Val asked, feeling unsure.
“Exactly… what makes you think there is anything stopping us from pulling the cart ourselves,” Arthur replied, making the girl think over it.
Val tilted her head and thought about it for a few seconds before walking over to the cart.
“HNNNNNNGHH!” She tried to push the cart, but it didn’t budge from the place.
“Remove the wedges under the wheels first.” Arthur said while shaking his head.
“Oh, right!” Val realized her mistake.
She removed the wedges that kept the cart from rolling off and tried again.
“HAAAH!” This time, she actually managed to make the cart move. “It works!” she exclaimed.
But then, ten seconds of pushing later, she sat down.
>Player Val’s stamina has reached 20%!<
“This is damn tiring!” Val’s face was red from exertion.
“I know. For your stats, it’ll be difficult and tiring, of course.” Arthur replied before tapping on the air in front of him. “But with my stats,” he walked up to the front of the cart.
~roll~
“It is still possible.” Holding onto the two handles in front of the cart, Arthur started pulling it!
“WOW! Just how high are your stats!?” Val was astounded.
