VRMMORPG: Dragomancer Reborn - Chapter 249 Dry Field Varun
Arthur and Val hunted the Hook Beak Sprinter birds for a while, as they explored the Ocher plains.
Since Arthur had already eliminated the Rock Stomping Wild Stallion, they could go much farther than he had last time.
“So where is the Field Boss?” Val asked as she sat down on a broken log.
She had just killed off three more Hook Beak Sprinter birds for a total of twenty seven of them. Arthur on the other hand had killed about forty two of them.
It was a decently large number and Arthur had also stored them in his cape. Val did notice the corpses disappearing, but she didn’t ask much. She had already understood that there were secrets that Arthur was still keeping and it was not right to speak about them.
Arthur had also intentionally done this, as he wanted to slowly reveal more to her. That way he would know how much she could be trusted.
And just as he had thought, she didn’t question him and took it in the stride.
Arthur looked in the distance before speaking, “it’s a field boss so it wanders around. What we need to do is look for its tracks.”
“It’s tracks? But I don’t think we’ve seen anything other than the Hook Beak Sprinter Birds so far.” Val replied.
“Exactly.” Arthur nodded his head. “There should have been other mobs here too, but there aren’t. The field boss either ate a lot of them or scared them away.” He explained.
“Oh? That can happen?” Val asked with interest.
“You can basically consider all the beasts in the game to be living in a cycle. They are interdependent and have an ecological balance of some kind. Keeping that in mind will make it easier to find them.” Arthur answered.
Val membraned Arthur’s words in her mind, knowing that they would be necessary for her to learn more about the game.
“We just need to search a bit more.” Arthur said, causing Val to look around as well.
The two searched for about half an hour and killed a few more Hook Beak Sprinter Birds before finally discovering the tracks.
“Here they are,” Arthur said kneeling on the ground.
“Whoa, those are big,” Val said looking at the tracks.
They were about eight inches wide and looked like they belonged to some kind of canine animal.
“We’re close,” Arthur said and followed the tracks.
It took them about five more minutes before finally discovering the field boss.
“That’s the field boss?” Val whispered trying to avoid alerting the large beast.
“Yes… A Dry Field Varun.” Arthur replied.
The beast looked like a giant hyena and was currently sleeping. It had dug a shallow hole for itself, that was about three meters wide and was curled up inside it.

Strange noises could be heard coming from the beast’s mouth while it slept. Six large fangs jutted out of its lower jaw and were large enough to reach its nose.

~gasp~
“Doesn’t this mean it has already smelled us?” Val questioned, feeling surprised.
“It probably has,” Arthur replied.
“Then why hasn’t it attacked us yet?” She wondered.
“Probably because it is sleeping and does not consider humans that are three times smaller than it a threat.” Arthur chuckled. “Though we can’t expect much from it due to its low intelligence and wisdom stats.” He added.
“We’re gonna sneak attack it?” Val understood what they were going to do.
“Of course,” Arthur replied. “We have to take full advantage of it. Now get ready with your bow,” He spoke.
“Yes!” Val replied, and the two changed their position.
They moved around such that Val would be able to hit the back of the Dry Field Varun’s head.
Arthur also prepared his own spear, and the Lock skill.
“Shoot the arrow when I tell you,” Arthur replied and used the skill. “Lock!”
The tassels on Dietrich glowed, and a magic circle formed around the Dry Field Varun.
>Weapon Skill Lock has succeeded!<
>Dry Field Varun’s Vitality and Strength will be sealed!<
>Dry Field Varun’s has been weakened: Vitality -4, Strength -5<
‘Lock is working better than before…’ Arthur noticed while the Dry Field Varun awakes due to the skill being used on it.
It felt a sense of weakness filling it and was shocked.
“NOW!” Arthur signaled to Val.
“HEAVY SHOT!” Val who had already kept her arrow ready, released it.
