VRMMORPG: The Other World Online - Chapter 214
Cheng Xiu had her dinner and laid on her bed. She had contacted San Zhe and the three of them decided to go into the game again the next day after classes. After checking their schedules, the time was set to 6: 30 in the evening.
Though reluctant to, Cheng Xiu still got up and got ready for another day of classes.
Gu Shu had decided not to come to college because she was sick apparently. Or as Cheng Xiu interpreted it, the girl was lazy and did not want to attend the classes.
She could never understand why Gu Shu would lie she was sick though. She could just site some other problems or functions after all. But Gu Shu’s go to excuse remained being Sick.
She had her classes and it was announced that they would only have classes till the afternoon because of the debate competition that was going to start afternoon.
Cheng Xiu looked at the watch on her hand. 12:05 PM.
She let out a sigh. It was time.
A siren rang and everyone hurried out the door.
This was their chance to see the person who would be selected to go to the Alliance Seminar! And to many, it was their only chance to participate in the said Seminar.
Cheng Xiu cleaned her desk and tried to dash out the door. After all, she was just as excited to join this like the others.
She had just reached the threshold, dreaming about her bright future, only for someone to call her from behind.
She turned around.
It was the Calculus teacher.
The woman came towards Cheng Xiu with a smile. “Ms Cheng, I would like to have a few words with you.”
Cheng Xiu nodded.
“I read your papers and submitted it to the authorities already,” the woman said without much preamble. “I think that your work will be a good project to be sent to the F Level sites already.”
Cheng Xiu frowned. “I am sorry ma’am, but which papers are you talking about? The assignment that you gave us? Was that supposed to be some kind of a entrance test?”
The woman laughed. “Nothing of that sort. I was talking about the Qi Utilization theory that you submitted to the Western Alliance two months back.”
Cheng Xiu fidgeted.
“I belong to the judging committee of that competition and I think your proposal of Qi Energy Utilization can be implemented in the Lower Testing Centers, all we need is your approval as it was your paper that suggested the test centers.”
“But…the theory has a lot of errors,” Cheng Xiu said to her, “There are also the risks that would be involved in it. The Qi Utilization would have to first think of what to do and how to dispose of the Waste material that comes with the Energy usage…how can it be used so soon? Was there a method to dispose of the toxics of the Qi already?”
The woman’s friendly face started to crack at her questioning. “Miss Cheng, you are a First Year scholarship student who has entered the Semester only three months back. You should be seazing this opportunity given the terms. It is a rare opportunity for someone like you.”
Cheng Xiu heard the words that the woman wanted to say. A Qiless like you.
She suppressed the mocking smile that wanted to climb her face and kept it blank. That somehow gave her a cold and hostile aura instead.
“It might be an opportunity to me,” Cheng Xiu said and paused. She knew that the woman was just trying to be helpful to a student that she thought was poor and “needed a hand.” And so, she could not be too hostile in her tone or her words. She had to study in this college for the next four years after all.
“but we can not forget that the testing fecilities of this city are not equipped with the Detoxification unit that most of the other places have. That was the reason that I wanted to withdraw the papers that I submitted. But the committee said that I can not withdraw the paper for something like that. Unless the work was plagirized or a copy of an already existing Theoritical paper I could not withdraw.”
The woman stared at her. “But the theory is very detailed. I especially was impressed by the test design of the Energy Equipment.”
Cheng Xiu fidgeted. “It was a model modification of Dr Vincent’s Energy Plant.”
The woman gave her an indulgent smile. “Yes, but to modify such a complex structure is also a talent.”
Cheng Xiu just smiled. She knew when someone was trying to butter her up. The Vincent Plant was a bit on the complex Structure but a student who has studied at least a month in advance in their first year of College would be able to understand and modify the structure. What she did was not that great of a planning and yet this woman was showering praises on her.
The teacher wanted her to approve of the project at all costs.
And Cheng Xiu could guess the reason. If a student of their College was able to have their projects approved, that would not only raise the prestige of the College but also the teacher who was in the committee.
And there was nothing wrong with that.
But…
“I am sorry ma’am,” she said again, “But without the presence of atleast a Level G Detoxification unit, I can’t approve of the practical planning.”
The woman scowled. “Are you sure about that? There is a 5 Million reward for the person whose project is being implemented.”
Cheng Xiu’s heart wavered a little when she heard the sum. With that much money, her father would not need to keep worrying about her spending money for the next four years at least. And by then she would get a job and be able to support herself fully.
It took a lot of effort on her part to make her own heart understand that she could not harm others’ life for money’s sake.
And she felt shame for that bit of hesitation of hers.
The teacher could see in the way that the girl’s expression was, that she was a bit convinced. She just needed a bit more of a push.
