Weak Nature - Chapter 1
There comes a day in every living things life where things just don’t go as planned. The problem was that the people living on the planet didn’t realize that it, the planet, was alive as well. Like the world was mad and crazy, natural disasters ransacked the little planet called Varune. Tsunamis reclaimed the beaches, the rivers overflowed onto the land, earthquakes tore mountains apart, and tornadoes toppled forests.
This was the cataclysm that caused nature to be able to run rampant. About a thousand years after the cataclysm happened, something that occurred during that changed the very flora and fauna that called Varune home. Plants became stronger. Animals more vicious. Trees became giants. Grass turned sharp. The very nature of all of the world turned dangerous, causing all of the Huma that lived on Varune to almost go extinct. However, the few that survived all had a similar feature. All had a bloodline that allowed them to go beyond their limits, allowing them to stay only endangered, never extinct.
With such low numbers, you would expect the tiny, venerable Huma to band together, and survive with numbers, correct? The problem that all intelligent pack animals face is exactly that, how to be a pack. Who gets to be the leader? Why? Because of this, they live in small tribes, usually very close families that live in villages in remote locations. One such location is a small valley, underneath a cliff. remote enough to be safer against the larger predators, but still close enough to caves and other locations where beneficial plants and animals live. Some of those benefits might include the gem of a Forosza, a silver fox that uses sound to move, since they live underground. The gem is considered a second brain by the Huma. They do know for sure, however, that eating that gem causes one to be a very, slightly, minute amount smarter. How they figured this out? Well… forcing someone to eat a ton of them, I guess…
With that gem however, the current leader of the Under-cliff Huma village was able to come to power. By being the smartest, and therefore the most like to be able to lead others better (Usually strongest, but I mean, he is strong too… maybe.). Since the smart guy came to power, the village underwent a large wave of change. First was that the houses, which used to be little more than lean-tos that littered the valley, were changed into actual abodes, but were dug and carved into the walls of the mountains surrounding them. Since his bloodline enabled him to take on characteristics of rocks, living inside a mountain would allow his bloodline to be even stronger, by allowing the younger generations to be tougher like the rock around them. In the village, this bloodline was called Calx, and everyone that had that bloodline took that as their second name. Another prominent bloodline in the village was the ability to be more sensitive to wind, allowing them to have slight control of the wind. This bloodline was the main hunter bloodline, since they are able to both track better and move faster. They are like the Calx, with that the longer they spend using and being in the wind, the stronger they get. The second name of this bloodline was Aether. The third major bloodline was the Manus. This bloodline have innately hardier and stronger bodies, and are a bit more dexterous than others at birth. This causes them to be the better workers and crafters, since they won’t grow stronger the longer they stay in their environment. They do have another perk though. They all have great memories. Without these people being the backbone of the village, the tribe would collapse. Have you ever seen a military that didn’t have its engineers? Didn’t think so.
The problem about bloodlines however, is that they can mutate. They can blend together. They can also just outright not be as powerful as what others have exhibited. Most people call these people mudbloods, since their blood wasn’t a ‘pure’ bloodline ability. In the village, these people all generally take the name of Hostia. since they don’t have a designated bloodline ability, these people could manifest any sort of power. One such case is Fae Hostia. She was originally apart of the Manus bloodline, but didn’t have that innate strength and memory. Since this was the case, she was abandoned to the worse off area of the village, where most Hostia’s call home. There, she was taken in by a new couple, who didn’t know if they were ready to have their own child yet. Growing up with less food, less weirdly beneficial items to eat, and not quite sure what her bloodline allowed her to do, Fae was never quite able to be a little girl. In fact, most mistook her for a man. Then, when she was turning five, a big gift was given to her, for her birthday. Her father, which he says his name is Hora, went into the forest at the bottom of the mountain, and gotten her a Essentia Flower. Not really rare, but because it was in the forest was worth quite a lot, all it did was help blood flow better. The reason why this is important, is with bloodlines like the Calx or Aether, the faster their blood flow, the faster their abilities grew while they were using them in the correct areas.
Given this flower, Fae was over the moon. She went out to the tree that was right outside their little hole in the wall, and climbed into its branches. Nestling herself into a nook, she ate the flower. With a slight breeze, and a warm sun, the little five year old Fae fell asleep.
Well, this is gonna be interesting. I hope that even if I don’t write super regularly, that some people will enjoy my randomness. Thanks!
