Weak Nature - Chapter 9
With the flutter of eyelashes, Aero and Odo waited patiently for Fae to wake up. Slowly opening her eyes, Fae took in the familiar leaves above her and tried to reach out with her power. Getting the connection, a bright smile lit her face. Barely awake and already smiling like that, Aero and Odo were glad. Mostly because it would be pretty hard to smile like that feeling a ton of pain, or being really depressed or anxious.
Something that Odo noticed however, was like her nails, her eyes now look like an emerald canopy, always shifting colors and flakes. Not thinking anything bad of it, he asked,”Fae! What in the world did you do?”
Fae, hearing the question, posed one back at him, “What did I do? I just tried to activate my bloodline last thing I knew, pain. A lot of it.”
Jumping down from the tree Fae walked over to Aero and Odo, frowning slightly before saying, “Why are you guy not as tall as before? Did you shrink or something? By the way, Odo you are breathing really heavily compared to Aero, did you have to do some exercise old man?”
Letting that sink in for a second, Aero burst out laughing, only giving Fae the comment, “Seems like you will have to spend a good while to get used to your bloodline bud.” Odo on the other hand gave a fake glare, saying, “Oh, I’m the old one huh? Aero is a good ten years older than me Fae. He is the true oldie; I just happen to do less hunting, that’s all.”
Trying to push the conversation away from himself, he asked Fae “In a week or two Aero and I will be taking you to the forest, see if you are really able to maybe eke out a way to survive off the forest.” Aero interrupted before Odo can continue, saying “Only after you take some time and reacquaint yourself with your bloodline. the better you understand that the better you understand your limitations.”
Fae, taking those words to heart, properly sent them off, ate some food, and decided it was time to truly try to understand her bloodline. The first and most obvious thing to her is to meditate and look at her core. Taking a few seconds to get comfortable and slip into meditation, Fae was shocked at the difference from when she first meditated with Aero and now. If before it was like a greenish heart that gave off a bit of light, it was completely remodeled. The biggest change was in the actual core. Instead of just a greenish heart, it was more like a leaf. Or multiple. Not only is it much more alive looking, it had veins all over which pulsed with light every time it contracts. It doesn’t glow however, but the veins in the heart connect to what looks like her veins. Coming out of meditation, it took her a second to realize that her veins really were green.
Walking over to the willow, Fae connected to it and started to think about what that entails. As it is now, Fae doesn’t think that she could turn off her bloodline abilities as before, they will be a more permanent feature. The next thing would be what else was changed physically. Asking the willow for a mental image, she was shocked with what she saw. What got Fae the most was her eyes. It was the same as the forest she traveled with the throne inside.
Shaking off that thought, to calm down she ran through what she used to do: Tend to her plants. Thinking about her abilities has left Fae a little more unsettled, as this was the first time she had done something like this, as well as the massive changes already. Getting lost in her work, Fae settled down near midday to work through some more of what exactly she could do.
In the ground, Fae drew little things to show exactly what she was thinking of. The first thing she drew was the heart, to signify what happened physically. Next, she drew the willow, to show the ability to speak to plants. Thinking about it, after she drew that one she added a flower with it’s stem cut, to show that she seems to have some sway on plants. Thinking back on all she learned from Odo and what she did that was different, she remembered him mumbling at the very beginning about how long Vis flowers normally take, and how her’s grew faster. After realizing this, Fae drew a little flower with an arrow pointing to a big flower. All in all, Fae had felt that she categorized what she knows of her powers as of right now pretty well.
Letting the week drift by, Fae kept trying to more actively use her power, to understand it more. The first main thing she noticed during the week is she can both actively or passively increase plant growth, and it seemed that she could also, like when she was training on how to run properly, draw from the plants to help restore herself. Taking it to an extreme, Fae even cut herself to see if that it will even help regenerate her, which is so lucky did. Wondering what she could do to power herself up more and understand more of, she went to Aero and asked how he knew he got stronger with his bloodline.
“Well Fae, in simple terms, the amount of wind I can use increases, but I would say the one that applies to you more is the other way. We pull as much energy away from the wind and into ourselves as we can, getting the rough feeling for it, before releasing it. Doing it at a later time, we can see if what we did increased our capacity or if we stayed the same.”
Walking back to her inclosure, Fae sat among the flowers and tried pulling what she thought of as the essence of nature into her, trying to hold as much as she can. Spending three seconds before feeling completely full, she then released it back. One thing that Fae did note, was that a little bit of that essence stayed within her, to do who knows what.
