When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 145
“Have you found them?” Eoin asks his attendant. “It has been ten days.”
“There is no sign of them.” The attendant replies stiffly, “Maybe they have already left this world.”
Eoin shakes his head. “The gates have been closed since the day of the assassination attempt at the prime minister’s mansion.”
Not only that, but the crown prince is also looking for Eli desperately.
“Find them.” Eoin smiles at his Attendant brightly. “If you can’t find them, then you should find your replacement and visit the torture chamber. Don’t worry. You will be able to leave the torture chamber someday.”
The attendant pales. He bows down to Eoin and promises him that he will find Eli and Nell; and then, he rushes out of the room.
Eoin lets out a heavy sigh. The Highmore family is hellbent on bringing down their family. Even the king is leaning on their side. The crown prince is still blinded by Eli.
This is the right time.
He heads toward his father’s study. It has changed significantly since that human’s familiar scorched it.
The entire family, especially the younger ones, are still in shock after experiencing the blood thrall. If that human was good at controlling the blood thrall, she could easily control all the demons who were influenced by it.
But that human hasn’t awakened yet, and the familiar is not fully evolved.
Eoin shrugs away his thoughts: he needs to concentrate on himself.
He knocks on the door of his father’s study. After a moment, he hears his father’s voice.
“Come.”
There are numerous letters on his father’s desk. Eoin glances at the ashes on the floor. Who wrote those letters?
“Speak,” His father commands him. “I don’t have much time.”
“I want to marry Princess Ophelia.” Eoin keeps it short. “Please request the king for a marriage between her and me.”
His father scowls at him. “Are you crazy? The king is already suspicious of us.”
“He won’t be suspicious if you join his family.” Eoin grins at him. “Ophelia supports her brother, Prince Ri An. If I marry Ophelia, it means our house also supports the Crown Prince.”
Duke Balthier Sanguine scratches his chin. His second son is right. The King will stop doubting them. “Does the Princess want to marry you?”
“She does,” Eoin confirms. “The engagement ceremony should be held as soon as possible.”
Ophelia won’t agree to go for a traditional engagement ceremony, but they can sign the agreement on their engagement ceremony.
“Fine.” Duke Balthier Sanguine waves his hand dismissively. “Leave. I have a lot of work.”
“Take some rest too, Father.” Eoin thanks his father and leaves the study. On the way back to his mother’s quarter, he wonders what those letters were.
His father doesn’t seem bothered about the Highmore family.
His father wants Eli to become the next king of this kingdom. Eli doesn’t have interest in the throne, but hearts can change anytime.
After marrying Ophelia, it’s best to i.m.p.r.e.g.n.a.t.e her as soon as possible while bringing down the Crown Prince.
Bringing down the Crown Prince won’t be difficult, especially after Eli is engaged to that human.
The Crown Prince is already seething in anger since Eli did a traditional engagement.
If he can find that human’s location and share it with the Crown Prince, he can gain the Crown Prince’s trust.
He steps into his mother’s quarter and sees his elder brother Ark in the sitting room.
His eldest brother, Ark Sanguine, is a strange hybrid, and the only one who is not a competition. Eoin relaxes his shoulders as he takes a seat beside him. “Where were you for the last ten days?”
“None of your business,” Ark replies curtly.
He is always cold and aloof. What does he think of himself? He isn’t even warm to their mother. Eoin scoffs at him, “I am your younger brother. If you aren’t my business, then we wouldn’t be family.”
“You are a twisted snake,” Ark mutters under his breath, “who will not think for a second before stabbing anyone’s back.”
Eoin doesn’t know how to respond. Can’t his eldest brother pretend to be a family? He is always harsh toward him. It’s not like he even wants him as his brother.
“Ark, you should be nice to your younger brother,” Judith chastises Ark as she walks closer to them. “They are already having a hard time because of you.”
“You didn’t have to be so dominant when you were with Father.” Ark clicks his tongue. Whenever his mother tries to blame him for being a hybrid, it amuses him. It’s already known why or how hybrids are born. This is not an ancient era when parents could blame their children for being born differently. “Then, I wouldn’t have been born as a hybrid.”
Judith slaps his face. “Impudent!”
“I am a hybrid.” Ark c.o.c.ks his head and smirks at her, unaffected by the slap. His mother is a weak wendigo, barely able to cast any evil on the poor souls. Even her bitter tongue can’t hurt him anymore. “You should use that as an insult instead of acting like a polite royal crone.”
“Why did you even come to see me?” Judith screeches.”Get out of my sight!”
Even Eoin wants to ask the same question. His eldest brother usually stays away from the family.
“I wanted to see how my mother looks like now.” Ark shrugs.
Ark adds solemnly, “I see that you are the same old crone who will wither away soon.”
“ARK!” Judith shrieks in rage.
“Brother, it won’t be good if you say another word.” Eoin warns him dangerously, “I will forget that you and I have the same mother and father.”
“You can already forget it.” Ark walks away from them. Maybe he has hoped in vain that his mother would change, but he has been an idiot. How come he thinks of Lady Nilora more than his mother who is right in front of him?
That woman wasn’t his mother, but she treated him like her own son without any prejudice against the hybrids when his own mother ignored his existence. After Eoin and Ephraim were born, his mother nearly forgot about him; but, his first mother, who was the true duchess, had always treated him with love and care.
“I should have been born as her son instead.”
And he knows why Lady Nilora died.
