When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 151
[Devil’s POV]
Nell is standing near the door and watching everything with a bewildered look on her face. I can tell that she is both scared and curious about Little Marshmallow’s distress.
Little Marshmallow has cried so much in a little time that his pupils are barely visible in his swollen eyes. He also notices Nell. It looks like the shock of being forgotten by Nell has taken away the last pieces of his intelligence that I liked about him.
I heard that people turn into fools when they are in love. My Little Marshmallow is not only a fool but also a crawling man in love.
I have no idea why he thinks that it’s an absolutely excellent idea to crawl toward her like an earthworm. He looks like a man in his late twenties — an a.d.u.l.t in Nell’s eyes. What will she think of him if he goes in her direction like this?
Should I watch him crawl into his demise or stop him?
“You!” The healer points at Nell. He must have predicted that Little Marshmallow is about to doom himself. “Why are you out of the bed? You are still poisoned.”
“Poisoned?” Nell gasps. “Who poisoned me?”
The mission is successful. Little Marshmallow has good friends. I don’t have to do anything.
For now.
“He did.” The healer throws his friend in the fire right away. “This ghoul fed you poison when you were unconscious.”
I take my words back: Little Marshmallow doesn’t need adversaries if he has buddies like that healer.
“You are a ghoul?” Nell looks at Little Marshmallow who has just managed to reach her feet. She shouts in shock, “What is a ghoul?”
“Ghouls eat humans!” The healer also shouts. “He poisoned you because he wanted to eat you.”
Goodbye, Little Marshmallow. Your love story is a tragedy.
“You want to eat me?” Nell’s eyes become big and round. “As if I would ever let you eat me! I will kill you if you even think of –”
Little Marshmallow grabs her foot and sobs, “Please remember me!”
“…” Nell stares at him blankly.
“I will die if you don’t remember me.” Little Marshmallow weeps like a concubine who is asking his lord to love him back. “Every cell of my body loves you. My soul also craves for you. My heart always chants your name. Nell, if you don’t remember me, I don’t have any reason to live.”
“I…” Nell blinks her eyes, seemingly at a loss for words.
Mentally, she is only eighteen. If I recall correctly, she received many confessions from the boys in her school. However, her eyes were always blinded by Baek Joon Woo.
I don’t dislike that boy. He had a good heart and a little more common sense that the man who is currently at her feet. Nell had many dreams with him. If he had lived, I think that she would not always be blaming herself for their deaths. Baek Joon Woo had a way to calm her down. While Eli is bright like the sun, Baek Joon Woo was subtle like the moon.
However, Nell had been brutally broken both by the people she loved and the people who despised her. I don’t think that the moon can save her anymore. Maybe she needs a blinding sun who can drag her out of the darkness that she is accustomed to.
I have a piece of her soul. I am the living proof of her will to live. I was born when she fought back desperately to save a boy she loved. She didn’t win, but she created me — a witness who knows everything.
However, I have been biased. I told her repetitively to kill herself. My younger self was influenced by her dark side. She resisted it in the end. When every minute of her life was bitter for her, she escaped into her hallucinations.
Sometimes, I thought that it was better if she and I died. She was too weak to fight back the fae. I was also frightened of the time when she would remember everything. But I haven’t guessed that Little Marshmallow would come to her life.
Everything changed after he appeared. I saw hope in him.
So I manipulate him sometimes because I don’t want him to leave Nell.
It looks like the sun isn’t enough. Nell is not ready to accept the happiness that Little Marshmallow can give her. Her past drags her down.
However, the current ‘Nell’ isn’t the woman who wants to kill herself. She isn’t the broken ‘Nell’.
She has created another safety mirage for herself.
I will take Little Marshmallow’s side because I want to be happy now. Ten years of pain and suffering are enough for both her and me. She needs to step forward. If she can’t go to the sun, I will help the sun reach her.
“Nell.” Little Marshmallow looks at her with watery eyes. “I can’t live without you.”
“I… this…,” Nell stammers uneasily. “Listen, I already have someone I love. Please let go of my foot.”
The ghoul howls like a deserted mistress.
I go to them and climb over his body. He doesn’t push me away. I sit on the top of his head and look at Nell. I don’t know if it’s right or not. I can’t bear to listen to Little Marshmallow’s cries anymore. This theatrical predicament is also tasteless.
“Baek Joon Woo is dead.”
Nell widens her eyes.
“Devil.” Little Marshmallow reaches for my neck. “What are you doing?”
I ignore him and leap out of his grasp.
“Maisie, Oliver, and Evie are also dead.” I watch the colour drain from her face. “Maisie and Oliver were r.a.p.ed to their death. Evie was killed by Killian’s puppet. Abigail, Samantha, Millie, and Nick are missing for ten years. Your mother and stepfather died in a terrorist attack around eight years ago.”
“You are lying to me.” Her voice is faint. “What is this gibberish?”
She doesn’t believe me and I don’t expect it to be easy either.
“You were also r.a.p.ed that day.” I can’t tell her the entire truth and put an end to this misery. The seal still binds my throat. I can’t tell the truth that is still not known. “But you survived. The seal on your memories was placed by Killian. You also promised to be his companion. That’s why he still seeks you. You are not eighteen. You are nearly twenty-eight-year-old. If you don’t believe me, take a look in the mirror.”
