When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 156
The way this person is speaking is…
Eli frowns at the man. He doesn’t care who lives or dies in the fae realm.
“I am an envoy,” He replies casually. “Take me to Nell Solomon.”
“Do you really think that I will take you to her?” Eli takes a step toward the man. “Maybe I should kill you.”
The man sighs, unaffected by Eli’s threat. “I am just an envoy. A human. Does it matter whether I live or not? But I do have something to say to you. If you let me meet Nell Solomon, I will reveal how to remove the last of the magic from her mind.”
It’s a trap. Eli lets out a laugh as his shadow trails toward the man. “I will find out how to break the curse on my own.”
“You couldn’t break it till now.” The man looks down at the floor. “I already told you. It’s pointless to kill me. They don’t care about my life. I am not even a pawn.”
“I don’t believe your words.” Eli grabs the man’s neck. “Reveal everything that you know about the seal.”
The man feels as if a hand is squeezing his heart tightly. Despite the pain, he stares at Eli with a dead look in his eyes. “If you kill me, Nell will never forgive you.”
“Why?” Eli scowls at him. “How does she know you?”
“I used to be her friend,” The man croaks. “I am one of the missing ones.”
Eli widens his eyes. The missing ones from the incident that happened ten years ago? Among the seven names, only Oliver and Maisie died. Nick, Samantha, Abigail, and Millie have been missing for years. “Are you Nick?”
“Yes,” Nick replies. “I am also the person who killed Mr Emerson who was her ex-boss.”
Why would this human do that? Eli releases Nick’s throat. He furrows his brows, waiting for Nick’s explanation.
“Samantha and I did it.” Nick gives him a smile. “We wanted Nell to go to prison and hoped that she would be away from his grasps. I compelled Mr Emerson to kill himself and killed the cat that was once possessed by our master. Wasn’t it a nice ploy to make her look like she is an insane killer? Fae folks can’t enter the prison because of some boundary laws. Samantha and I thought that it would protect her.”
Eli purses his lips. Benny did say that someone tried to make it look like Nell killed them. The real killer was also dead. Maybe this man killed an innocent person after fooling Benny.
If he hadn’t met Nell, she would have ended up in prison or the fae realm.
“If she goes to the fae realm,” Nick raises his chin and tells him, “she will live a life worse than anything that you can imagine. It’s already too late for us. I want Nell to live a free life. Let me meet her.”
An ally? Eli creases his forehead. But he isn’t the type to trust someone else’s slave. However, if this person can go that far to protect Nell, this person isn’t entirely faithful to the Fae King.
“I will take you to her.” Eli says to him, “But there is a situation.”
“What kind of situation?” Nick inquires solemnly.
“She doesn’t remember the last ten years,” Eli explains. “The seal broke, but she resisted a lot. Now, her mind is frozen at eighteen. She doesn’t remember anyone’s death in the last ten years — not even her mothers’ or stepfather’s. If you tell her, she might believe you. But you have to act carefully around her.”
Nick’s lips quiver uneasily. “She doesn’t remember.”
“She remembers losing her child.” Eli sighs. “You can tell me what happened after that.”
“I will tell everything after I meet her.” Nick holds his head, taking a deep breath. “I don’t know if it’s good or bad that she doesn’t remember anything after that.”
Eli doesn’t reply. In his opinions, it’s not bad that Nell doesn’t remember. It’s better to forget some memories.
***
The cat is staring at her.
Nell Solomon stares back at the cat.
While the cat and the human are busy glaring at each other, Amachi watches over the human with an apprehensive look in his eyes.
Standing beside the healer, Zachary Krauss is lost in the thoughts. No spell is completely perfect. If his daughter can resist the spell, why can’t he break it? The fae king might have done something worse to her. Then, it’s best to remove this dark spell from her mind.
Nell’s soul is broken. If someone with a broken soul can produce that level of magic when she is just awakening, then there is no doubt that she is going to be a powerful sorceress in the future.
Zachary Krauss sighs when he recalls the cat’s words. The goddess of the night blessed his daughter. The moon goddess favours her. But why? He knows that the moon goddess isn’t simple.
Gods are never simple.
“Isn’t it strange?” Amachi murmurs. “There is no side effect of the poison on her body.”
“What do you mean?” Zachary Krauss asks him in a low tone, still keeping his eyes on Nell.
“Even if poison is used to counteract another poison that we gave her, there should have been some effects.” Amachi c.o.c.ks his head, crossing his arms. “I might be a genius potion master, but she is human. Her body shouldn’t be able to deal with demonic poisons without any side-effects.”
What is this demon talking about? Furrowing his brows, Zachary Krauss scowls at him. “Did you use my daughter for an experiment?”
“I only went along with Eli’s ideas.” Amachi shrugs. “He was desperate to save her. So, I guess… Honestly, he can remove the spell in a few seconds but he won’t use his other magic on her. Her soul won’t be able to endure it. After the war, he is afraid of using darkness again.”
Zachary Krauss has already looked into Eli’s past. Although he doesn’t know everything about Eli, he has an inkling that Eli isn’t an ordinary demonic ghoul. Any magic that falls under the domain of darkness is a double-edged sword; even the moon is an illusion that doesn’t bestow any blessing without any price. He has to find out why the moon favours his daughter so much.
“Your daughter changed him a lot.” Amachi clasps his hands behind his back. “I have never seen him being so desperate for someone’s love. Sometimes, I am afraid that your daughter might shove him further in the darkness.”
“Why do you say that?” Zachary Krauss narrows his eyes. “No one can force the heart of the moon.”
If his daughter can’t love the ghoul, it’s not his daughter’s fault. Hearts can’t be forced. Love can’t be born out of emptiness.
“Is that so?” Amachi smiles at him. “But I have met her before she lost her memories. What if I say that she has feelings for him, but she doesn’t want to accept her feelings? What if I tell you that she blocked her memories because she doesn’t want to accept the past and move on with my friend? She is one of those people who don’t want to admit their feelings for someone because they think that they will betray someone from their past.”
Zachary Krauss grits his teeth. “You sound pretty sure.”
“These are just hypotheses.” Amachi yawns. “My friend is unlikely to give up on her anyway.”
“It seems like that.” Zachary Krauss sighs. The ghoul is pretty adamant.
He gave up on his love, Isabelle, and destroyed her because he was afraid of his past catching up to him. Instead of fighting back his fears and his past… Instead of taking responsibility for everything that he has done… He ran away. That changed the girl he loved once.
Eli Sanguine is so different from him. The ghoul won’t leave his daughter despite everything. Love has many forms.
He has to find a way to destroy the spell on her mind and save his daughter from that fae.
Zachary Krauss looks up at the ceiling thoughtfully. “A promise.”
A promise has to be completed. But it can be challenged under special circ.u.mstances. He has to hear the exact words that fae said to his daughter. But talking to his daughter is more difficult that it seems.
In any case, if they want to find a way around the promise, he has to make her remember everything. There is no other way.
