When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 161
“Killian has ‘Kill’ in it.” Maisie smiles widely. “Kill Ian. Yes, we need to kill him.”
“Killing can send us to jail.” Nick protests, “We can’t kill Killian.”
“Abigail has ab in her name, but she doesn’t have abs.” Oliver shakes his head at Maisie. “So, we can’t kill someone because his name has the word ‘Kill’ in it.”
“She doesn’t have abs, but she prefers men with abs.” Maisie tells him slowly, “It means that we have to kill Killian because he is seeking to be killed.”
“I am surrounded by idiots.” Baek Joon Woo closes his eyes. “It’s really exhausting to be the only smart person in this room.”
“If you are smart, then who is an idiot man who makes a deal with a fae?” Nell snaps at Baek Joon Woo. “You could have talked to me before you did such a thing.”
“I wanted to tell you, but I couldn’t talk to you.” Baek Joon Woo leans back in the chair. “You told me that your father could probably help you with Killian.”
“But not like this…” Nell shakes her head. “My mother told me that we should never make a deal with a fae.”
“Your mother isn’t helping.” Baek Joon Woo yells at her, “We lost our child because of her.”
Nell closes her mouth as her face turns paler.
“Baek Joon Woo, she already knows that.” Maisie frowns at him. “Don’t be harsh.”
“I am sorry.” Baek Joon Woo squeezes his eyes shut. “It’s just that I am frustrated. Her mother thinks that taking her away from this city is the best option.”
“I won’t go.” Nell holds Baek Joon Woo’s hand. Her voice is low and dry, filled with exhaustion. “I won’t leave you.”
Baek Joon Woo remains silent. His dark eyes tremble with uncertainty. Nick can understand him: even if they are legally a.d.u.l.t, they are not a.d.u.l.t enough to fight their parents. If Ms Solomon is determined, Nell might have to leave the city. Baek Joon Woo isn’t old and capable enough to take care of Nell alone. Besides, it’s probably safer for Nell to leave, especially if Killian is something they can’t handle.
“I made sure that they won’t harm me or anyone I love.” Baek Joon Woo reveals slowly, “In return, I offered one hour of my life. It doesn’t feel like –”
Nell glares at him. “One hour of your life?”
“Yes,” He confirms. “In that one hour, they can’t harm anyone.”
“Let me just…” Nick massages his forehead. “I am still stuck on the part where you said that ghosts and fae folks are real.”
“So slow,” Maisie mutters. “Why are you so shocked? Just think that fae folks are aliens.”
“Not so far from the truth.” Oliver nods his head in approval. “They aren’t from our world, and they are not like us. Basically, they are aliens.”
“That’s not true.” Baek Joon Woo informs, “There are fae folks who are part of this world. They dwell in forests, abandoned houses, bridges, and plain sight. They always use special magic called glamour that makes them look like ordinary people. I am sure that Killian was also using glamour.”
“Why did he choose to look like a creepy boy using glamour?” Maisie blinks her eyes. “Wait! How creepy does he look for real? Is he ugly?”
“I don’t know.” Baek Joon Woo crosses his arms. “I tried to find out about him too, but they said that they haven’t heard of any fae with a human name.”
After a pause, he adds, “Killian is a human name.”
“A fake identity.” Oliver mumbles, “It makes sense. Why would anyone use their real name if they want to commit crimes?”
“Fae folks don’t reveal their true names.” Baek Joon Woo continues, “If you find out anyone’s true name, you can control them. They usually have calling names. I am sure that he has a different calling name.”
“Anyway, we have to kill him.” Nell looks sideways. “If we find his true name, we can command him to kill himself.”
“Whoa!” Nick waves his hands. “It’s getting dark in here.”
“I am probably a dark genre.” Nell rolls her eyes. “Baek Joon Woo is literary.”
“You are a poetic genre.” Baek Joon Woo smiles at her. “You are a poem that I can read forever.”
Maisie makes a gagging sound. “Get a room.”
“Or another island.” Nick wrinkles his nose. “Stop flirting in front of us.”
“Let’s not make things awkward here.” Oliver sighs. “I am not allowed to flirt.”
Maisie has a faint shy smile on her lips, but she says nothing to Oliver.
“But how did you find the fae who made a deal with you?” Nick questions Baek Joon Woo. “And why can you see them?”
“I met the salon lady.” Baek Joon Woo glances at Nell. “Nell met a half-fae at a salon. I talked to her. At first, she was surprised. Then, she opened up. She was quite friendly. She told me that I could see fae folks because of Nell. Since I am close to Nell and she is going through changes at the moment, the veil has been stripped off from my eyes. Also, witnessing her magic taking a form has added to it. So, I could also see things, but I couldn’t see as much as Nell can. She introduced me to a market where fae folks and otherworldly creatures interact. After going to the market, the veil was completely gone. I met with a small peddler who made deals with humans. She told me that she could find Nell’s father for a price.”
Nick is in awe. This is so magical. It happens only in books or movies. But does he want to see magical beings? He is curious. What if one of the teachers is a fae folk? Teacher Hedge is prickly. That person should be fae folk.
“I don’t know what they will make you do in an hour.” Nell fidgets uneasily. “They might twist your words.”
“As long as they don’t use me to harm someone, it’s fine.” Baek Joon Woo pats her shoulder. “I am supposed to go there today.”
“No, don’t go alone.” Nell scolds him, “Don’t underestimate them. It’s already dark.”
“She asked me to come before the night of no moon.” Baek Joon Woo sighs. “I didn’t go before because you weren’t doing well. If I don’t go tonight, it will break the deal. She might try to make me her slave.”
Maisie claps her hands. “Baek Joon Woo, you are so smart.”
“I didn’t expect things to get complicated.” Baek Joon Woo replies, “They were already complicated.”
“If it can’t be helped, then I will go with you,” Nell utters as she moves her legs, trying to climb off the bed, “Don’t stop me.”
“You are sick.” Maisie grabs her shoulder and pushes her back on the bed. “Until you get your usual skin tone back, you aren’t allowed to physically exert your body. You look paler than the library ghost.”
Nell scowls darkly. “You have never seen the library ghost.”
“I have seen enough horror movies.” Maisie grabs her shoulders. “Look! The boys can go. I will stay here with you and guard you against your mother and your stalker. If there is anything wrong, they will press the panic button. Then, we will call the a.d.u.l.ts and the twins. Even if we have to call the authorities, we will save our boys. How does this sound?”
“It’s a good plan but…” Nick raises his finger. “Why do I have to go?”
“Are you going to stay here and guard Nell against Killian and her mother?” Maisie gives him a look. “Alone with her?”
“I guess I will go.” Nick looks away from Nell. “I can’t deal with Ms Solomon.”
“I am curious about the market.” Oliver beams at Baek Joon Woo. “Tell us more about it.”
“Both of you look like you are going to an amus.e.m.e.nt park.” Baek Joon Woo looks at them gravely. “It’s not a children’s playground. In any case, don’t eat any food there, even if the person looks human or harmless. Don’t thank anyone or show any gratitude. Never ever accept anything from a fae unless they say that they won’t hold any charges.”
“Says the boy who made a deal with a fae,” Nell grumbles in annoyance.
“Sometimes, we have to take the risk.” He leans closer and plants a kiss on Nell’s forehead. “Don’t worry. Rest here.”
“Return in one piece.” Nell stares at him. “All of you must return.”
“We will return,” He promises her before they leave.
