When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 162
“You gotta be kidding me!” Nick stares hard at the location of the market. It’s ten in the night. The air is cold and sharp. The wet fog is sinking through the layers of his clothes, and piercing his skin. He is barely keeping himself from quivering in the cold. Baffled, Nick adds, “This isn’t how I imagined it.”
“I was also surprised,” Baek Joon Woo replies. “But this is it.”
“It’s a strip club.” Oliver puts his hands inside his pockets. The strip club is in a conspicuous location. The neon lights are hung above the door, and a tall man in black is guarding the door, checking IDs before letting people in. Oliver isn’t eighteen yet. “They won’t even allow me to enter.”
“We can’t enter through the front door.” Baek Joon Woo raises his hand, signalling them to follow him. “There is a back entrance.”
“Of course, there is a back entrance,” Nick grumbles. “There is always an illegal back entrance.”
Baek Joon Woo sighs. “We are still school students. It won’t do us any good if someone sees us entering a strip club.”
“I am surprised that Nell didn’t ask where the market is.” Nick contemplates doubtfully, “This isn’t a test, is it? Are there cameras around us?”
“We are lucky that she didn’t ask.” Baek Joon Woo takes a breath of relief as he enters a dimly lit back alley. There is not a single person in the alley except for them. “If she knew that it was a strip club, she would have killed me on the spot.”
Oliver takes a deep breath. “Let’s get out of this place alive, and keep this secret with us until our death.”
“The girls must never know.” Nick glances at Baek Joon Woo. “You can’t tell Nell either. Millie will break up with me if she finds out that I went to a strip club.”
“I don’t keep secrets from Nell.” Baek Joon Woo doesn’t promise anything. He knocks on the back door of the club. “She will get angry and try to kill me, but I will run away before she can catch me. Nell isn’t a fast runner.”
“But Maisie is.” Oliver closes his eyes in regret. “I shouldn’t have come here.”
“Why are you worried?” Nick kicks Oliver’s shin. “She doesn’t even admit that she is dating you. If she gets angry, you should man up and tell her that you can do anything you want since she is not your girlfriend.”
Oliver glares at Nick. “Why are you an enemy of my love?”
“Enemy?” Nick frowns. “I am giving you some advice.”
“In one way or another, she and I are together.” Oliver says to him slowly, “Maisie isn’t playing with me. In fact, her parents already know about me. She had introduced me to her mother and father when I went to pick her up from her home. I even have breakfast at her place.”
“And what did she call you when she introduced you?” Nick asks him mockingly.
Oliver’s face turns sour. “She said that I was a member of the book club.
Nick bursts into laughter.
“That’s your relationship status,” Nick smirks. “A member of the book club she goes to.”
“Our friendship is on the verge of collapse,” Oliver warns. “I have been to her room. She said that no man other than her father ever entered her room before.”
“Basically, you are her boy toy.” Nick turns toward Baek Joon Woo. His friend is talking to a woman with flamboyant red hair. When did she appear? He has been so engrossed in teasing Oliver that he didn’t notice a beautiful woman with such big buns. The blue-green sparkling powder on her pale cleavage is certainly eye-catching. Nick can’t help but imagine Millie in a bunny suit with…
Does Millie have a cleavage?
It’s a question that he can never ask without getting smacked on his face. Nick takes a deep breath and looks away from the woman. He will protect his eye-chastity for Millie’s sake. Although he has watched p.o.r.n before, it’s different because this woman is a real person — but women in p.o.r.n are also real people. Nick frowns when he feels pangs of guilt in his chest. Is it cheating if he sees p.o.r.n? Should she ask Millie about it?
He will talk to Baek Joon Woo later.
“Boy, we can’t let you enter if you don’t pay for them too.” The woman glances at Nick and Oliver. “Pay their fees, especially if you want their veils to get destroyed.”
“What’s the price?” Baek Joon Woo asks.
“Don’t you know already?” She raises her brows. “Judging by the looks on their faces, they already know about us.”
Nick tenses his shoulders when he notices a predatory look in the woman’s blue eyes. She is a head taller than him, but her body is lean. If they fight, he might win. However, he has a feeling that she will be the winner.
But what does she want? His heart? His kidney? His liver? Maybe she wants his firstborn. Nick recalls all the horror stories that he has read in the books. What was the name of that evil fairy who wanted the firstborn? Rumplestilskin?
“Guys, take your socks off.” Baek Joon Woo utters, “This one is a sock fairy. She likes sniffing socks. Give only one.”
“Baek Joon Woo.” Nick gives him a grave look. “You and I are friends, but asking for a kidney is too much.”
“I asked for a sock.” Baek Joon Woo scowls at him. “Don’t be dramatic. Give it to me.”
However, Oliver doesn’t ask any question. He takes off his shoe and removes his black sock. Then, he hands it to Baek Joon Woo.
Nick makes a face. “Are you kidding me?”
“I am not joking.” Baek Joon Woo gives the sock to the woman who has a delirious smile on her face. “Sock fairy likes socks.”
Her creepy smile sends shivers down Nick’s spine. He can’t trust that she won’t do anything insidious with his sock. “I don’t want to give mine.”
“Then, return home.” Baek Joon Woo glares at him. “You are wasting our time.”
Fresh.” The Sock Fairy presses the black sock on her nose. “This is ecstasy.”
“She is scaring me.” Nick stands behind Oliver and grabs his shoulders. “Why are you so calm?”
“I have no idea how to react.” Oliver replies calmly, “She reminds me of the elf from some book. I think I gave up my sock for a good cause.”
“That…” Nick croaks, “Your sock is her cocaine.”
“Boy, do you want me to give you a foot massage?” The Sock Fairy smiles at Oliver. “Maybe I can give it with my tongue.”
She wiggles her tongue toward Oliver. He turns his face away, staring at the wall with his lips tightly shut.
“She is gross!” Nick wrinkles her nose. “Why is a fairy so gross?”
“Hey!” The Sock Fairy places her hand on her hip and grimaces at Nick. “I have been listening to your prejudices for a while. Are you one of those humans who think that fairies can’t love socks? What’s wrong with loving socks? There are fairies who love to steal underwear.”
“You mean perverts.” Nick yells back, “Pervert Fairies.”
“No.” She creases her forehead. “Those are nymphs. They are perverts. I was talking about underwear fairies.”
Nick shakes his head. “Baek Joon Woo, you have destroyed my childhood.”
“Just give me your sock.” Baek Joon Woo tells him tiredly, “We don’t have all night.”
“Promise me that I won’t lose my organs.” Nick looks at him desperately. “Or my soul? I don’t want to make a deal with the devil.”
“I am not an Unseelie fae.” The Sock Fairy clicks her tongue. “Why did you compare me with the devil? I am a wild fae who belongs to no court.”
“Courts?” Nick blinks his eyes. “Wild fae?”
“Nick.” Baek Joon Woo raises his hand. “If you don’t give me your sock now, I will walk inside with Oliver. This is the last time I am asking you.”
“Fine.” Nick finally takes off his sock and gives it to Baek Joon Woo. After the exchange between Baek Joon Woo and the fairy is done, Nick asks the fairy, “I am curious about Nymphs. Are they as beautiful as they mentioned in Greek mythology?”
The Sock Fairy rolls her eyes, but she doesn’t bother to answer him. She opens the door. “Go and regret.”
Baek Joon Woo walks past her. Nick and Oliver trail behind Baek Joon Woo silently. A peal of laughter follows them as a sweet scent invites them into the corridor with red lights. Nick can’t help but wonder about the meaning of the fairy’s words. Will he truly regret?
