When A Ghoul Falls In Love - Volume 1 Chapter 164
Baek Joon Woo informs Nell about what happened in the Bazaar. There is a small argument that leaves him in an exasperated state. In the end, he tells her to wait for him.
“Someone is here,” Oliver says to Baek Joon Woo.
Nick turns his head toward the middle-aged woman with short hair. She is heading in their direction. But she looks so ordinary — totally like a human. How could that be? He can also see fae folks now. Then, he should be able to see if she is a fae.
Since they are standing in front of the salon, the woman approaches them with a frown. “What are you doing here instead of being in school?”
That’s right. They should be in school. But they have decided to tackle this problem. It’s a matter of life and death, and the school can wait.
“You have seen me before.” Baek Joon Woo speaks to her calmly, “I want to contact Cecilia. Can you share her phone number with me?”
“Cece?” The woman creases her forehead. “She quit around a week ago.”
“Quit?” Baek Joon Woo stammers. “Why?”
“There was an urgent mail from her home.” The woman answers him, “I don’t know much, but she decided to leave suddenly.”
“Can you contact her now?” Baek Joon Woo probes. “I need to talk to her about an urgent matter.”
“Actually, I have called her after she left because I was worried about her.” The woman sighs. “But her phone is out of service.”
Nick is suspicious now. All of this feels just wrong. Did Cecilia take Baek Joon Woo to the Bazaar intentionally? That’s likely. But why did Killian want to go so far? If he is a powerful fae, he should attack them directly.
Is Killian afraid of something? Maybe he can’t attack them directly. If they can find out what is holding Killian back, they can probably stop Killian.
“This is my contact number.” Baek Joon Woo gives a piece of paper to the woman. “If Cecelia contacts you again, please tell her about me. Tell her that it’s really important.”
“Okay.” The woman takes the piece of paper. But it doesn’t seem like she is hopeful about Cecelia contacting her again.
The boys walk away from the salon. After a while, Nick decides to reveal his thoughts.
“Something is constraining his movements.” Oliver mutters, “That’s a possibility. If he is a magical being, why did he let us beat him at the school?”
“He is afraid of being found out.” Baek Joon Woo furrows his brows. “Maybe he can’t do as he likes in our world.”
“Why?” Oliver questions him.
“I don’t know.” Baek Joon Woo halts in his tracks. “The Bazaar doesn’t move freely either. Perhaps, all the fae folks are afraid of something. But they won’t tell us. We need to find out on our own.”
“Basically, we have to find someone who is an expert.” Nick crosses his arms. “Can Nell’s mother help?”
“If she knew what Killian was afraid of, she wouldn’t have tried to run away with Nell.” Baek Joon Woo shakes his head. “Ms Solomon is too complicated. We need to find someone else.”
“Okay, how about we ask the library ghost?” Oliver suggests. “A library ghost should be knowledgeable about stuff.”
“Sounds plausible.” Bark Joon Woo sighs. “There is no harm in trying.”
The boys head to the school then. Since the gates are already closed, they have to climb over the wall. Baek Joon Woo isn’t even wearing a uniform. To avoid being caught, they go to the locker room. Baek Joon Woo changes into gym clothes before they go to the library.
The library has a natural air that all the students strongly dislike. They don’t know why they don’t like coming here unless they have no choice left. Today is one such day. The old librarian is sitting on the desk as usual. Two students are browsing the bookshelves. Nick, Oliver, and Baek Joon Woo search for the library ghost as quietly as possible.
Nick can’t believe that he is truly looking for a ghost. A few days ago, ghosts only existed in movies, books, or tv series. Now, they are hunting for a ghost as if they are ghost hunters.
It sounds cool.
He doesn’t realize that he has separated from his friends. Oliver and Baek Joon Woo are looking for the ghosts in different directions.
The library isn’t big, but it’s not small either. It is occupying only one hall, but there are too many shelves with old editions of books. Nick ambles through each shelf. He has no experience in ghost hunting. So, he is sure that he won’t come across any.
However, life doesn’t always work out the way he wants. It always manages to surprise him in unpleasant ways. And he comes face to face with a tall skinny woman with only one eye.
Her dark purple and black skin is hanging loosely on her bones. She is wearing rags of victorian era clothes, and one of her shoes is missing. There are deep ligature marks on her neck.
Nick forgets to speak. This is what dead people look like.
The woman turns her head toward him. She c.o.c.ks her head in interest.
His throat is dry. He has no idea why he isn’t running. It feels like his feet are glued to the floor. He realises that he is doomed.
Then, he suddenly decided to be a believer. Nick starts to chant the verses of bibles, hoping that the ghost would get exorcised.
He doesn’t know whether it works or not. The ghost shrugs and walks away from him as if he is the most disinteresting person in the hall.
Wait! Why is she not trying to scare him? “Hey, you!!!”
The ghost gives him a dull look. “What?”
Why is he offended by a ghost’s disinterest in him? “I have some questions for you.”
“I don’t have any time to entertain you.” She steps away from him.
He follows her. “Who will entertain you then?”
“Kids who like to scream.” She sighs. “You don’t have a veil on your eyes.”
Is that why she is disinterested in him? “Why does a ghost want to make people scream?”
“If you were a ghost, what would you have done to pass time?” She stops walking. “I used to live here. It’s been three hundred years since I died. The houses were destroyed and the school was built. But I can’t leave this place. I am still attached to it. So, tell me what should I do to pass my time in school?”
“But why are you in the most boring place in the school?” Nick asks her. “There is nothing interesting here.”
“I like books.” She scowls at him. Her face is uglier, but Nick decides not to comment on it. After all, she is a ghost.
“Okay.” He fidgets with his hands. “I have some questions.”
“I don’t want to answer.”
She floats away.
He runs after her. “It’s really important. My friends will die if you don’t help us.”
The ghost turns around and looks at him. “Are you here because of the fae?”
“How do you know?” Nick widens his eyes. “Do you know who he is?”
“I don’t.” She shakes her head. “I have heard about those creatures from other ghosts. I didn’t expect one to appear here. I have seen you and your friends together with the girl with pale hair frequently. The girl with the light of the moon stands out a lot… to us. Her magic is also awakening”
Girl with the light of the moon? Who the hell is that? Among Maisie, Nell, Millie, and the twins, only Nell has pale hair. Nick blinks his eyes. “Who is Killian?”
“He is a fae.” The ghost replies, “A dark fae. He has played with things that he should not have. I only saw darkness around him – foul darkness that can easily harm ghosts like me. He is menacing. People like him don’t receive salvation. When they die, they just die. But I think that he is one of those who won’t die easily.”
The ghost truly knows a lot. The name ‘library ghost’ suits her. Nick looks at her hopefully. “He wants to take away Nell. We need to stop him. Do you know anyone who can stop him?”
“If I tell you, will you help me?” The ghost stares at him. “I won’t tell you for free.”
Since she isn’t a fae, Nick isn’t afraid. He nods his head.
The ghost’s eyes light up. “Then, what I want is…”
