When You Are Mine - Chapter 329
Lair made his way to the director’s office, he needed him to witness this. Exposing Dr David was going to be troublesome and difficult if he simply used the camera footage especially if he was going to administer the same drug to grandfather Beau as he suspected he would. He was convinced that they might try to kill the man again with that same drug because it would look like a normal cause of death since he already presented with chronic heart problems.
The oldman’s present condition was precarious and one more dose of that drug was going to kill him, he might die of cardiac arrest or maybe myocardial infarction or worse he might choke on his own vomit. How cruel could this people be?!
He needed the director to witness the scene with his own eyes because the camera might not be able to capture the drug Dr David might administer and the man could easily claim it he had administered another drug.
Lair knocked on the Director’s door thankfully grandfather Beau’s room was on the same floor as the office.
“Come in.” The director said from behind the doors.
“Sir–” His words got stuck in his mouth the moment he stepped into the office and he saw the person sitting in the room. His eyes grew slightly wide as he stared at her in stupefaction.
“Emily?” He called out in surprise.
“Dr Lair?” The lady called out in equal surprise. She abrupy stood up from her seat and approached Lair who was still looking at her in bewilderment. He couldn’t believe he was seeing her again. The last time he saw her was at Blake’s birthday party and he had hurriedly left without taking her number, that was something he had regretted at the time. She was one intelligible woman who had great insights on nutraceuticals. Till date that was one of the best conversation he had shared with a female counterparts, and to think they had talked for only a short time.
She gave him a once over and her eyes widened when she saw his lab coat and the hospital logo crest on it.
“You work here now?” She inquired her eyes filled with surprise, while Lair bobbed his head up and down in response, “Yes I do.”
“Wow that’s good. Woah, It’s been a long time, how many months has it been now?” Emily asked with charming smile.
“Five?” Lair replied as he tried to remember when the day her had gone on Blake’s party.
“Wow it’s been so long.” She smiled, revealing her beautiful dentition.
“You guys know each other?” The direction asked, cutting into the somewhat reunion.
“Yeah.” They replied simultaneously.
Lair quickly reprimanded himself when he remembered what had brought him there in the first place.
“Erm, Emily I’d really love to talk with you and share some knowledge but there’s an emergency and I need the director for it.” He said flashing an apologectic smile at her before glancing at the director who cocked an inquisitive brow at him.
“Oh no problem.” Emily understood. It was common in their line of work for them to always be caught up in an emergency. Lair shot her an appreciative smile before returning his gaze fully to the director.
“What’s the problem?” The man asked.
“Sir it’s the old man Beau.” Lair had only finished his sentence when the man hopped to his feet and said, “Let’s go.”
As the major benefactor of the hospital, he couldn’t dally for even a second. He’d ask the necessary questions on their way to the room. He was aware of the old man’s health condition, but he had no clue on what was happening today.
“What’s the problem?” The director inquired as they hurried back to grandfather’s room which was only a few doors away.
“Take a look at this.” Lair said handing over the test results to the director who took a proper look at it and his eyes widened.
“Emetine?” He asked in shock while Lair nodded. “Yes sir, it appears the old man’s has been given ipecac for a while now.’
“And it wasn’t detected?” His tone was now showing traits of anger.
“Sir i believe it has been detected but someone from the hospital has withheld this information.” That alone made the man’s face livid. With furrowed brow’s he glanced at Lair and asked, “Who?”
“Sir you have to see fir yourself.” Lair replied and flung the door open, and he wasn’t surprised to find the culprit standing over the old man as he injected something into the infusion which Lair had hanged up.
The syringe and injection bottles in his hands fell to the floor when he heard the door open, he looked towards the door and he was shocked to see the director standing behind with a curious and suspicious look on his face.
“What are you doing?” The director asked inquisitively. He had seen what he was about to do but he didn’t want to believe what Lair had mentioned was true.
“Si…ir I’m admini…stering a new drug.” He stuttered as he tried to step on the syringe and injections, but he was too late as the director had seen him.
“Don’t you dare!” The man growled making Dr David’s feet to hang midair. The director took slow steps towards him and picked one of the unbroken injection amples from the floor. He examined the ample and his eyes widened in shook. He looked at Dr David who now had cold sweat breaking on his forehead.
“So it’s true?” The director asked while Dr David shook his head.
“No…no sir.” He tried to explain but the director could only look at him with disgust.
He turned towards Lair, and said, “Dr Lair please call the police.”
“Yes sir.” He replied.
Dr David hastily fell to his knees when he heard the medical director’s “Sir…..please.” He begged as he held the man’s lab coat who kicked his hand off and took a few steps backwards.
“Dr David you’re a disgrace to the profession. And I hope you get the punishment you try deserve.” He said before turning towards Lair, “Please call the cops and inform the Beau’s–”
The director was still speaking when someone stepped into the room dressed in all black, “There’ll be no need for that.. I’ll be taking him.”
