Where Fate Leads - Chapter 2 mama He Looks Like Me
Time went by quick and despite all the misfortune before, she was now living a wonderful life as the mother of her son Chen Hui. He’s now four years old and is willing to find his father. This child didn’t need to know how he was born, he only needs to know that he does have a father, hopefully, if he hasn’t died yet.
“Chen Hui, oh my you have grown so much since I have last seen you. Is your mother Yu Yan home? I have surprising news for her.”
“Mama is busy making dinner, did great aunty just come back from the dragon festival?” the curious little boy asked. His question would have been answered though if his mother hadn’t walked out of the kitchen to talk to old madam. She came out drying her wet hands with a cloth.
“Aunty!” she said greeting her with a hug, “What brings you over to my place today? Did you also come to see the dragon festival?” she gestured the old lady to the table, Chen Hui sat across from her as Yu Yan poured the two of them a glass of tea.
“I know you don’t like to attend crowded places and so you don’t join in the fun when there is a festival because you might lose Chen Hui, but I swear, you have to go today! I just saw a man who looked exactly like Chen Hui, maybe he might be the man you have been looking for!” She was speaking in an excited tone, and just hearing the word ‘father’ Chen Hui grabbed onto his mother’s arm.
“Mama, can we go see?” she smiled and nodded, our goal was to find Chen Hui’s father, a crowd wouldn’t kill us. She grabbed her red pouch with a phoenix embroider onto it and handed it to her little boy and then lifted him up to carry him through the crowd so she would lose sight of him. They followed behind the old madam as she took them through the crowd to where she last saw the man. He seemed to have left, but we were already in the festival and she didn’t want to make Chen Hui sad even though he goes with whatever she says and so they stayed playing games and eating snacks. The food back home was now going to waste, but her baby was having fun and smiling.
“Can we go over there, mama?” Chen Hui pointed to a small shooting stand Yu Yan nodded and carried him over to the stand.
“Welcome beautiful lady and your son?” the owner asked. She nodded and handed him the money. Chen Hui had found a perfect game. She kissed the palm of her hand and with a snap, a light pink glow emits from her finger. She created a small ball of petals and flicked it hitting all the prizes down. The owner looked at her with shocking eyes.
“Ms, you were only supposed to hit what you want. Did you really want all of these?!” she shook her head and pointed at the lion stuff animal.
“The remaining ones which have fallen are for the kids behind me.” As she said that she left the stand and little kids started running up to the man to get a toy. Even though it was only a tiny bit of magic, it had completely drained her stamina and so they rested under a wisteria tree near the small pond.
“Here mama.” said her little baby handing her a sack with water in it.
“Thank you, baby,” she said. She wanted to spend the remaining of the day to look at the sunset. It wasn’t until a man came up to the pond hiding the sun from view, all she saw was his shadow, but Chen Hui had a clearer view and he asked me, “Mama, doesn’t he look like me?” before she could answer him or stop him, he ran up to the man.
