Who Said A Mosquito Can’t Cultivate? - Chapter 37
Now, first off, what are receptors? According to what I could remember from watching videos on the internet, receptors are organs on a living being that respond to multiple stimuli around the being’s surroundings, transmitting this information to the living being’s brain not long after. How is this related to the dilemma that is my journey towards Red River Town a while ago? It’s incredibly related to itsince it would more or less compensate for my now shitty vision.
If I could remember correctly, a mosquito in my previous life relies on its olfactory, gas, and heat receptors to sense where a human was and then start succing from that human’s skin not long after. I can understand the heat and olfactory receptors since humans are warm-blooded creatures, and we probably smell pretty fucking good to the mosquitoes, but I still can’t wrap my head around the need for gas receptors. Oh well, that’s how a mosquito works, I’m just a human in a mosquito body, I’ll eventually get used to it.
Anyways, I’ve delayed this for a while now. System, open up the receptor section.
Ding!
________
Receptors:
Olfactory Lv. 0 You smell nothing. 10 points to unlock.
Gas Lv. 0 You sense no gas whatsoever. 10 points to unlock.
Heat Lv. 0 You only have a rough sense of temperature. 10 points to unlock.
Spatial Lv. 0 Your sense of direction is more or less shit. 100 points to unlock.
Sanguine Lv. 0 You don’t know how useful this is because you rely on your vision too much. 100 points to unlock.
________
Well then. This is quite interesting. At first, the descriptions that were beside each receptor was pretty neutral, but then, as I continued to read on the descriptions of the next few receptors, it’s just the descriptions mocking me on how I rely on my vision too much. Who knew that things that don’t even have sentience can actually hurt me?
Anyways, the prices for unlocking these receptors are surprisingly cheap, a pretty big contrast to the prices to upgrading my physique. Now that I think about it, the cost for upgrading a part for my current physique level now costs around a thousand blood points. After that, I have no clue, but man is it a blood point pit.
Okay, I’m slightly going off topic, so let’s move back to the receptors. I checked my blood storage to see if I still had some blood points in my storage since it would definitely be a shitty experience if I were to blindly succ an animal right now. Thankfully, there was still around a thousand or so points of blood inside my storage, probably because I had excess blood after sucking Jeffrey to upgrade my physique.
And with that, I consumed 30 points of blood to unlock the first three receptors I could upgrade in the receptor section.
Ding!
’30 points of Impure Blood Energy have been consumed.’
‘Olfactory Lv. 0 -> Lv. 1’
‘You can now smell like a decent amount of smells.’
‘Gas Lv. 0 -> Lv. 1’
‘You can now roughly differentiate between gases.’
‘Heat Lv. 0 -> Lv. 1’
‘You can now differentiate temperatures in more detail, allowing you to sense warm-blooded living creatures.’
Whoosh!
A few seconds after upgrading these three receptors to the first level, the world around me, which I was pretty familiar with after staying here for over a night, now felt like an unfamiliar place to me. Well, in terms of what I could see, there was not much of a difference, but in terms of what I could perceive, it was definitely upped by a few notches.
Not only could I now perceive sight and hearing, I could now perceive smell, gases, and heat as well. Hmmhow do I explain this feeling? Well, think of it this way. It’s like a rawer type of information since I can’t really explain the feeling in words that well. Anyways, I’ll give you an idea of what it feels like.
As I’m currently on the branch of a decently tall tree, the breeze blowing through this height is slightly colder than the breeze blowing a few decimeters below me. Not only that, the whole forest was enveloped in a grassy smell, while at the same time, hints of a pungent smell wafted through the surroundings every once in a while. It’s probably an animal’s flatulence just doing its job as it spread throughout a greater range.
As for gas reception, I can differentiate between the multiple gases that make up the air that’s currently around me, albeit roughly. I do know that some of the gases are heavier than others, so that’s a plus?
Hmmmif I think about these newly upgraded receptors from the perspective of replacing my currently crappy vision, olfactory would allow me to differentiate between safe and dangerous places through smell, gas would also do the same thing, but through the presence of different gases, while heat would bevibing, I guess. The only situation I could think of where heat receptors are useful for is for finding prey to succ blood from. I’m definitely gonna find some prey to suck blood from later, and possibly test the two new skills with them as well.
Anyways, let’s now check out the last two receptors, Spatial and Sanguine receptors. From the name alone, I have a good feeling that these two receptors have good effects. That’s probably the case since the two receptors are priced ten times as high when compared to the first three receptors.
Ding!
‘200 points of Impure Blood Energy has been consumed.’
‘Spatial Lv. 0 -> Lv. 1’
‘You now have a better sense of direction than before. You can now roughly judge distance from where you’re currently at.’
‘Sanguine Lv. 0 -> Lv. 1’
‘You can now see the blood vessels flowing throughout your body. If you get close to a living being, may it be warm-blooded or cold-blooded, you can now roughly gauge where their vessels and veins are.’
Whoosh!
Unlike the first three receptors, which took a few seconds to have their effects shown on through my perception, these two applied their effects to my perception at the very instant they were unlocked. Let me tell you, their prices are pretty worth it.
I’ll talk about the Spatial receptor first. With the Spatial receptor unlocked, I now have a rough awareness of where every item is within a certain radius. Unfortunately, this radius is slightly smaller than the radius as to where I could see clearly, but I can probably fix that by just upgrading it.
When thinking about the receptor in terms of replacing my vision, in fact, it actually augments my vision to a state where I could possibly see better than before. Why? Because even with my eyes closed, I could still roughly gauge as to where each item is, which is a big plus if I actually went blind in the future. Then again, that would probably be unlikely.
As for the Sanguine receptor, just as the notification said, I was now able to roughly sense where my blood vessels, with some places even having a stronger feeling than others. Are those places probably weak points in my body? If so, that’s quite helpful in combat.
I then tried to sense a random animal’s blood vessels after checking mine. With that, I used the information of the whole forest that was given to me by Jeff, then used my newly upgraded Spatial receptor to fly at a decently quick speed towards the nearest animal on the information map.
Surprisingly, the receptor worked its wonders, giving me a rough map as to where the weak points of the random animal were. While I looked at the animal through the Sanguine receptor, there was a nagging feeling in my mind that told me that if I succed through those places, I would possibly earn more blood than usual. I’ll see if that’s the case after I go to Red River Town.
Yes, I’ve now decided to go to Red River Town. Why? It’s because of the Spatial receptor. Thanks to its effects, I now have greater assurance of being able to get to that place even faster than I would hopefully expect. Of course, before setting off to Red River Town, I’ll upgrade the Spatial receptor by a few more levels to be more assured.
Ding!
‘500 points of Impure Blood Energy has been consumed.’
‘Spatial Lv. 1 -> Lv. 2’
‘You now have a greater sense of spatial awareness. The maximum radius of spatial awareness has been increased.’
‘Spatial Lv. 2 -> Lv. 3’
‘Your spatial awareness is now quite acute. It wouldn’t be a lie if this system tells you that you’ll be able to clear an obstacle course with your eyes closed.’
Whoosh!
In an instant, the range at which the Spatial receptor took effect was increased, even surpassing the radius of my vision by a decent distance. With that, I was now more or less assured of my safety when flying towards Red River Town.
And so, with the information map in mind, the Spatial receptor and the other receptors in full power, I then set off with my Supersonic Flight skill on full blast, heading towards Red River Town.
Whoosh! Buzz
Well then, I’m now off to explore a new place I haven’t been into before. Then again, the same would go for every place I would across while heading towards Red River Town since I’m not a native of this world anyway. Anyways, what I was trying to say was that, this will be the second time I would be in contact with human civilization.
The first time was the village where I was born in, with a young human male tipping the bucket where I was born, killing many of my brethren. To this day, I still haven’t forgotten that grudge. I swear, I’m gonna kill that boy before I die. Speaking of which, I have a greater constitution than that boyI think. Should I take a detour to kill that boy before heading towards Red River Town?
Hmmnah. I can postpone it for now. It’s not like he’s some sort of cultivating genius that’s been hidden due to him being in a faraway village. Also, if I wait until I’m at a higher realm, I would have higher chances of killing him in one go.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Now that I think about iteven though Jeff gave me a goal of becoming a guardian beast of the Fleeting Blade Sect
The first question I should be asking myself is
How the heck would I talk to humans?
Would they even understand the great language of buzz?
