Why Defeat The Devil? - Chapter 14
With an exclusive skill like “Heaven’s Grace”, Xi En was able to acquire skills that others might need to practice for years or might not even get during their whole life. He was also able to obtain the maximum SP after each level-up. Even upgrading his skills was a breezy task.
The fact that the Magic Detector in the Adventurers Guild could only detect skills below Level 7 reflected that the guild assumed that not everyone could easily achieve the skills of Level 7 or above.
Furthermore, it was almost impossible for the fairly talented to upgrade their skills excessively when the SP they received were peanuts. On the other hand, the SP required to level up one’s skills was a lot.
Hence, how many individuals could actually possess maximum level skills? Even if they did, how many skills could they own?
Whether it was the individual’s level or skill, the progress hinged on the person’s talent and potential. Even if one was prodigious enough to upgrade one’s skill to the maximum level, it would be near impossible for one to achieve the maximum level for several skills.
There was no such thing as a perfect being. Even if one could easily acquire the skills in one’s area of expertise, one would find it difficult to obtain the skills in other areas.
At least, according to the guild’s staff, even the gods and the Devil could not receive the full 100 SP in one go. The best they could do was to attempt several level-ups to finally achieve the total of 100 SP.
Xi En also knew that each skill, depending on its effects, needed a different amount of SP to acquire and upgrade its level. No one ever needed only one SP to pick up a single skill, let alone upgrade it.
Normally, the better the effects of the skill, the more SP would be depleted to pick it up and upgrade it. The higher the skill level became, the more SP it required for the upgrade.
However, due to the “Heaven’s Grace”, Xi En received a full 100 SP during each of his level-up. Furthermore, each time he picked up a skill and upgraded it, he only needed one SP for each task.
It was something that not even the gods and the Devil could do.
Moreover, Xi En now understood how powerful his Sacred Sword actually was.
The fact that it could increase 100 levels for each skill’s effect now seemed incredible to Xi En. As he recently discovered, the maximum level in this world was Level 100. It meant that Xi En who held the Sacred Sword was already at his maximum level. Yet, he could increase his level further.
‘Am I unrivaled in this world now?’
The thought wafted through Xi En’s mind briefly before it was swiftly denied. Xi En knew that the Sacred Sword was powerful, but it did not yet make him invincible.
Apart from the levels, there was the contrast of skills.
Having a high level only symbolized a high level of strength, dexterity, and mana. However, one’s capability was not solely determined by one’s level. Skills came into play as well.
Someone who was weak but knew how to apply battling skills would end up as the victor when compared to someone stronger but who knew nothing about battling.
Although a higher level denoted a higher SP which could be utilized to pick up and upgrade more skills, not everyone had the talent to acquire a variety of skills. The added levels from the Sacred Sword’s effect did not give Xi En any additional SP.It only increased his level.
Xi En also did not think that the Devil’s skills would be lacking in comparison to his.
The Devil might not have 15 maximum level skills like him. On the other hand, the Devil might very well have one hundred fifty Level 7 or Level 8 skills! Besides, who knew if the Devil had any exclusive or special skill which would be considered as dirty tricks?
Once he regarded the possibility, Xi En conceded that he could still be far from being invincible in this world. In any case, he had only been here for ten days.
If Xi En were to keep progressing at his current rate, he would almost be assured to surpass the Devil in the future. Not only did the Sacred Sword raise his level, it also added to his skills’ levels with some perks too.
Although Xi En could not yet declare himself invincible, he did not have to be too modest about himself either.
For now, however, Xi En was just showing everyone his abnormality.
Noting how his surroundings had quietened down with the other Adventurers looking at him in either doubt or curiosity, Xi En sighed inwardly.
For the moment, he was probably going to be the topic of conversation for everyone, was he not?
Nonetheless, he should return to the topic at hand.
“Since I’m already an adult and have reached Level 10, I can be an Adventurer, right?” Xi En asked the staff in front of him.
“Yes, that’s correct.”
The staff nodded and instantly picked up the quill to record on a parchment. She then said, “You’ll temporarily be registered as an Adventurer. Since your level is still low and you’re new, the guild will assign you to an established Adventurers group for your safety where you can familiarize yourself with accepting and completing quests. If you’re able to gain the acknowledgement and recommendation of the group a month later, the guild will then officially qualify you as an Adventurer and award you amedal.”
Xi En would have to quit as an Adventurer if he could not gain the recognition of the Adventurers group within a month.
It made sense.
Adventurers often had to battle the monsters and interact with different clients, high-ranking officials included. To complete the different quests, Adventurers also needed a medley of knowledge and abilities. To think that one could just become an Adventurer and make a lot of money from completing a series of quests as in the games and novels was simply unrealistic.
The reason the Adventurers Guild lasted to this day with its branches all over the world was because it had credibility and a good reputation. If anyone could just join to make up the numbers but fail to complete the quests, then it would cast aspersions on the guild.
Naturally, one had to be assessed to be an Adventurer.
“With this permit, you temporarily have the right to accept the Adventurers Guild’s commission, and enter or leave Lamigione freely without having to pay the town’s dues. It’s valid for a month. Please keep it safe.”
The staff handed Xi En a parchment which was rolled up and tied neatly like a scroll.
“Report to the guild tomorrow morning. The Adventurers group to which you’re assigned will wait here for you.”
Xi En then took the permit and thanked the staff before taking his leave.
The Adventurers on the floor began talking as soon as Xi En left the guild.
Thus, spread the news of a newbie Adventurer who was already at Level 10 but had no skill. Just as Xi En had anticipated, he was now the talk of the town.
