Wife Doting Addictionmy Abducted Tsundere Husband - Chapter 220
It rained again in the middle of the night, and it was close to dawn by the time Su Jiu fell asleep. She was clearly tired. The rain beat against the rooftops in a deafening cacophony, but she slept right through it.
When she woke up, the sky was already bright. The rain was lightened to a drizzle that pitter-pattered melodiously on a beautiful summer morning.
Su Jiu nestled comfortably in Ji Yuxian’s arms. With her eyes still closed, she asked sluggishly, “What time is it now?”
Ji Yuxian was leaning on a soft pillow, gently stroking Su Jiu’s long hair with his beautiful hands. His voice was as pleasant as the sound of the rain outside as he answered, “It’s already late morning. Since there’s nothing on today, you can sleep in a little longer.”
“Alright,” Su Jiu replied lethargically, unwilling to open her eyes from exhaustion.
Ji Yuxian gently kneaded her shoulder as he chuckled into her ear. “Did I tire you out last night?”
Su Jiu’s ears reddened, and she buried her face in his chest. She muttered, “Ji Yuxian, are we doing it a little too often?”
Their actions were bordering on hedonism, weren’t they?
The man’s almond-shaped eyes twinkled. His robe hung around his body loosely, exposing his shoulder in a sensual display.
“Not at all. I think we’re just fine!”
As the man spoke, his hands that were kneading Su Jiu’s shoulder trailed along her open collar and slipped their way in. His hands glided over her alabaster skin, and the man’s breath hitched.
Su Jiu smacked his hands off and gave him a look of warning. “It’s time to get up!”
She knew that there was no distinction between day and night when it came to this man’s appetite.
Twice more, and her body was going to fall apart!
Even at the harshest of her martial arts training, she had not fallen. There was no way she was going to allow herself to lose her life on the bed. The Dragon Conqueror Gang would never be able to live down that infamy!
Ji Yuxian chuckled as he slipped his hands under her underarms and hugged her tightly in his arms. With an indulgent pat, he said, “Alright, I’ll endure it. We’ll discuss this again later tonight!”
Su Jiu rolled her eyes at the roof of the bed canopy.
The man was now insatiable after his first taste of meat!
Knock! Knock! Somebody rapped on the door, and the couple heard Jin Feng’s voice coming from behind it. “Young Master, the tribal chiefs are here with all the tribespeople to seek an audience with you. Do you want to see them?”
“Let them wait!” the man said casually, with a hint of coldness in his tone.
“What’s the matter?” Su Jiu looked up at him and asked.
“They didn’t bother to differentiate fact from fiction, chose to believe a traitor, and almost killed the Island Mistress. What do you think they’re here for?” Ji Yuxian muttered as he kissed the tip of Su Jiu’s nose.
“They’re here to seek forgiveness from you?” Su Jiu asked, her eyes gleaming. “They should be thanking me! I was the one who saved their lives!”
“Yes! You are indeed their savior!” When Ji Yuxian noticed how casual Su Jiu’s tone was, he tightened his arms around her, relieved deep down.
“Ji Yuxian,” Su Jiu suddenly called out.
“Yeah?”
“I’ve moved all my things back to the Ji Manor!” Su Jiu said.
The man’s eyes sparkled. “Great!”
“I still have many Chinese characters to learn from you! You’ve been skiving as a teacher for so long. It’s time to start working hard again!” Su Jiu said with a playful smile.
Ji Yuxian felt emotion blooming in his chest. He rolled the lady over and lay atop her, peppering her face with passionate kisses. His throaty voice was infinitely sexy as he said, “In the future, we’ll practice calligraphy in the day, and reenact the paintings at night. I’ll be sure to service the Young Mistress to the best of my ability!”
Su Jiu frowned. “Ji Yuxian, can’t you be more serious?”
“Servicing my lady is a task I approach with the utmost seriousness!” the man replied with a chuckle.
Su Jiu blushed immediately. She pushed him aside to get up from the bed. “From what I can tell, you don’t have a single serious bone in your body.”
The man gazed at her with sparkling eyes. “Jiu’er, tell me you love me!”
Su Jiu’s eyes were clear and bright as she tilted her head up to kiss his jaw. “I love you. I love you most!”
“There’s no one else. It’s me alone that you love, isn’t it?” Ji Yuxian asked as he wrapped her in his embrace.
Now that the poison had been purged from his body, his insecurity was beginning to creep in. He was suddenly afraid that Su Jiu’s previous confession had just been to mollify him.
Su Jiu rubbed her nose intimately against his neck. “Ji Yuxian, you’ve given me so much. Most importantly, you’ve taught me how to love someone. I’ve figured it out this time around, and I know it well. I won’t ever let go. Ji Yuxian, this whole time, it’s only you I’ve loved! I probably already fell in love with you the moment I met you. You are my most successful robbery in this life!”
Ji Yuxian’s breath hitched before he began to kiss her passionately — from her brows, to her eyes, to her cheeks… and down to her lips. He kissed her with wild abandon, and his lips laid siege to her body. He was insistent and forceful, transferring all his love to her.
The temperature inside the tent kept rising, and Su Jiu was completely intoxicated by the man. His kisses left her skin burning with lust. At that moment, all she wanted was for her body to be enjoined with his, and for them to have each other.
They were divested of their nightclothes again, and the man’s eyes clouded over with thick desire. Passion surged with such ferocity that it threatened to drown them both.
She was a poison that was even more painful to bear than the Half Moon Devourer! Just a hint of her sweetness was enough for him to lose his mind and throw himself to eternal perdition!
He was rejoicing within. He had managed to survive through the darkness and had finally found the antidote, unleashing the trapped beast within.
He had stepped out of the darkness into a garden of flowers that were in full bloom!
All the happiness he experienced was given by her, and could only be given by her!
Perhaps this was fate, or perhaps this was his doom, but he had never once thought to break away from it all — only to give in to it.
Their bedclothes were thrown aside as they lost themselves in their desire for each other. Su Jiu had long forgotten what she had said moments ago and wanted nothing except to cling to his warm body and enjoy the pleasure that he could give.
This sort of pleasure and happiness that radiated from the bottom of her heart was something that could come about only from being together with the person she loved deeply.
At that moment, outside the room, Jin Feng’s hand was poised to knock on the door again, when he hesitated for a moment and changed his mind.
He knew that if he knocked the door right then, the Young Master would likely throw him into the sea to feed the fish in a fit of anger.
At the end of the day, he had to look out for his safety too. As such, he decided to wait a little longer.
Jin Feng went down the stairs and said to Wu Yi, who was waiting, “Apologies, the Young Master is otherwise occupied at the moment. You’ll have to wait to see him!”
Wu Yi wore his usual white robe again that was spotless and had regained his aloof demeanor. He looked up at the slight tremors in the ceiling and said with a laugh, “The Eldest Young Master has been working hard day and night. He needs to watch his health!”
Jin Feng maintained a straight face as he replied, “Noted. Thank you for your concern, Young Master Wu!”
“To be honest, purging poison is not my only skill. The Buyi tribe has a special herbal supplement that enables even an 80-year-old elderly man to feel robust and vigorous upon ingesting it. If the Eldest Young Master requires it, we can always discuss a price!” Young Master Wu suggested with a chuckle. The untouchable deity-like being had suddenly become a potion peddler.
Jin Feng stared at him, dumbstruck for a moment. “Umm… I don’t think our Young Master needs that!” he replied earnestly.
However, Old Gu, who was sitting at a corner in the middle of a chess game with Shangguan Yunkun, suddenly pricked up his ears upon hearing Wu Yi’s words.
Shangguan Yunkun darted a knowing glance at Old Gu and took a sip of his tea. “Old Gu, you’re a legendary doctor yourself. Do you suffer from ailments too?”
Old Gu immediately picked up the mosquito-swatter that was lying beside him and smacked it across Shangguan’s head. “Concentrate on the chess game, you rascal! Stop spouting crap!”
Shangguan Yunkun chuckled and lowered his voice. “It’s fine, Old Gu. If you’d like some of Wu Yi’s herbal supplements, I’ll approach Wu Yu for you, and tell him I want to get some for myself!”
Old Gu glared at Shangguan, sizing him up with his eyes. “Could it be possible that you’re the one who’s lacking in that department?”
Shangguan’s expression darkened immediately. “You ungrateful man!” he replied.
Old Gu snorted and proceeded to move his chess piece.
Seeing that Ji Yuxian was busy, Wu Yu took his leave. “I’ll come back again in the afternoon,” he said.
“Sure! I’ll let the Young Master know!” Jin Feng replied.
Wu Yi chuckled and turned to leave.
It was still raining, and Jin Feng walked Wu Yi to the door. He saw that the courtyard was packed with the tribespeople on their knees. There was no covering above them, and they were all drenched in the rain.
Standing in the corridor, Wu Yi observed them and said with a sardonic laugh, “I hope the rain will be able to wash away their stupidity!”
Jin Feng remained silent.
Without saying anything else, Wu Yi headed back to his room.
Afterward, Shangguan Yunkun emerged and said to a guard, “Let Mu Zhen in!”
“Yes, sir!” The guard put on a straw raincoat and headed out into the rain.
A moment later, Mu Zhen appeared with the guard, soaked to the skin. Under the shelter of the wooden corridor, he bowed his head. “Greetings, Manager Shangguan!”
They were the only two people in the corridor as the rain droplets dripped from the eaves of the roof like a liquid curtain.
Shangguan stood with his arms folded. His demeanor was mild as he asked with a laugh, “Do you believe that the iron ore mine rightfully belongs to the tribe, Tribal Chief Mu Zhen?”
Panic was evident on Mu Zhen’s face as he fell to his knees. “That thought has never even crossed my mind before! This island used to be barren. Generations of our tribe were wild and destitute, and they had to go hungry and cold due to insufficient food and clothing. Because of the plague, a huge number of the tribesmen died. It was only after the Island Master came that the tribespeople were able to live a good life with enough food and even medical care. I’m truly grateful to the Island Master, and I would never betray him!”
“You are a sensible person, Tribal Chief. If only Yun Ao shared your thinking and sentiments, he wouldn’t have died such a horrible death,” Shangguan Yunkun said softly.
“It was my fault for not checking and blindly trusting Yun Ao and his daughter, thereby almost causing harm to the Island Mistress. I deserve to be punished, and I’m here today with the rest of the tribe to seek forgiveness from the Island Mistress, as well as mercy from the Island Master!” Mu Zhen lamented as he fell to the ground.
“Since you’re a wise man, I’ll say a few more words. We’ll leave aside the fact that your tribe was only able to live a peaceful life after Ji Yuxian became the Island Master of Wushan Isle. Based on the current situation now, the iron ore mine has been in operation for many years, and many other people are now coveting it. If this island is occupied by anyone else, do you think they will allow your tribe to live?” Shangguan’s voice grew cold.
“I understand!” Mu Zhen replied immediately.
“Your tribe does not possess the capability to mine the iron ores, but there will inevitably be some greedy ones among you, like Yun Ao, who will lure others onto the island in hopes that they will be able to get a bigger share of the pie. However, as you’ve seen for yourself, not only was Yun Ao killed, your entire tribe was almost annihilated too.”
Mu Zhen trembled on the ground. “Yes, yes! I swear that nothing of this sort will ever happen again!”
“I have discussed it with the Island Master. To prevent any of the tribespeople from entertaining such thoughts again, we have decided to move your tribe to Daliang. Don’t worry, the place we have prepared for you will be as peaceful and comfortable as this island, and you will not have to worry about food and clothing!”
Mu Zhen looked up suddenly in shock. “We’re leaving this island? Did the Island Master seriously decide to do this?”
“Yes!”
“Manager Shangguan, we were wrong! But I beg of the Island Master to be merciful. Don’t move us away from this island. Our ancestors lived on this island for generations, and they told us that even if our lives are on the line, we’re not allowed to leave this place. Please, I beg of the Island Master! Please be merciful!”
Mu Zhen was prostrated, and he repeatedly knocked his forehead to the ground as he pleaded incessantly.
Shangguan quirked an eyebrow and looked at him. “But who’s going to bear the responsibility if a situation like Yun Ao’s occurs again?”
“If anyone in the tribe so much as entertains that thought, I will personally kill him, and step down from my post as Tribal Chief as an atonement to the Island Master!” Mu Zhen declared firmly as he remained prostrated.
Shangguan cast a glance at Mu Zhen’s back. After a while, he said gently, “Please rise, Tribal Chief. I will discuss this again with the Island Master and let you know of the outcome. Tell the rest of the tribe to get up as well and go back!”
“No, our tribe is doing this willingly to seek the Island Mistress’ forgiveness! We’ve believed the words of an evil man and almost killed the Island Mistress as a result. Not only did she not hold it against us, but she also saved our lives! Until we see the Island Mistress and obtain her forgiveness, we will not leave. The Ocean Deity won’t forgive us otherwise!”
Shangguan Yunkun knew that it would be useless to convince him any further. With a sigh, he turned to return to the room.
Meanwhile, Mu Zhen returned to the tribespeople and continued kneeling facing the main house.
At the end of the wooden corridor, a small head popped out from behind the column. The person’s body was drenched from the rain, and their eyes were filled with worry.
Wu Yi came again at noon, and this time around, Jin Feng could not avoid going up the stairs to report his presence.
Su Jiu was sleeping in Ji Yuxian’s arms, and he carefully laid her down on the bed before getting up, putting on his clothes, and walking out.
“Tell the servants to prepare some porridge for the Young Mistress when she awakens!” Ji Yuxian ordered as he made his way down the stairs.
“Yes. It’s already been prepared!” Jin Feng replied.
The two men headed downstairs, and the sound of their footsteps faded in the distance.
Suddenly, the window facing the west on the top floor was pulled open. Guo Mei stuck her drenched head in and looked left and right, before jumping in as she had done previously.
The bed curtains were drawn; it was clear that its occupant was still asleep.
Guo Mei was curious about why Su Jiu constantly slept in till noon, but she did not have the time to ponder it. She had something more important to ask of Su Jiu.
Kneeling in front of the bed, Guo Mei called out softly, “Mistress?”
Inside the bed canopy, Su Jiu’s eyes suddenly shot open.
A slight movement caused her whole body to ache, and Su Jiu closed her eyes.
“Mistress?”
Again, she heard a small timid voice coming from the other side of the bed curtains.
“Guo Mei?” Su Jiu sat up and belatedly realized that she was barely dressed. Bruised love bites covered her exposed skin. She hastily covered herself with a robe, blushing at the fact that Guo Mei was just a few feet away from her behind the curtain.
“Mistress, it’s me!” Guo Mei said hurriedly.
Su Jiu pushed her long hair behind her shoulders and drew the canopy open as she got off the bed. When she saw the state that Guo Mei was in, she froze in shock for a second. “Where did you just come from?”
Guo Mei looked up, and she was dumbfounded.
The lady’s waist-length hair was untied, and her beautiful face lacked its usual coldness, carrying in its place an indescribable and effortless charm. Guo Mei could not bring herself to look away.
Even though Guo Mei was a woman, her heart skipped a beat nonetheless.
“What’s wrong?” Su Jiu asked with a smile.
Guo Mei regained her senses and hastily lowered her head. “I’m here on behalf of my tribe to seek your forgiveness, Mistress!”
Su Jiu glanced at the half-open window and giggled. “You’ll need to rid yourself of this bad habit of climbing through windows. It’ll be terrible if someone mistakes you for a burglar!”
Guo Mei’s face reddened. “I’m sorry, Mistress! I was anxious, and I didn’t consider my actions.”
Su Jiu retrieved a dry towel and passed it to Guo Mei to dry her hair. “Get up before you speak further!”
Guo Mei stood up and used the towel to dry her dripping-wet hair. With her head lowered, she said, “Mistress, our tribe did you a huge disservice. They’re all kneeling outside at the moment to seek your forgiveness!”
Su Jiu opened the south-facing window and gazed out. Like what Guo Mei said, the courtyard was filled with many people on their knees.
Since early morning till now, they had been kneeling in the rain.
“Tell them to go back!” Su Jiu said casually.
She bored no hatred towards these people. It was understandable that they had chosen to trust one of their own over her. She had saved them for Ji Yuxian’s sake.
Therefore, none of them owe the other anything.
“They won’t leave without obtaining your forgiveness!” Guo Mei said.
Su Jiu laughed and turned to face her. She said softly, “Are you insisting for me to make some grand speech about morals and principles? I already told you that I don’t blame them, and I don’t! I can’t be bothered with all the superficial manners and empty courtesies. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Guo Mei froze, and her face turned red. She bit her lip and wrung the towel in her hand as she lowered her head.
Su Jiu stroked her head. “Didn’t you protect me too yesterday? That’s enough to nullify their attempt to kill me!”
“If that’s the case, could you please tell the Island Master not to move us out of the island? We’ve been staying here for a long time, and we don’t want to leave,” Guo Mei pleaded as she gazed at Su Jiu.
Su Jiu’s eyes shifted towards her. “Who told you that you’d be moving out?”
“I overheard the conversation between the Tribal Chief and Manager Shangguan,” Guo Mei answered quietly.
Ji Yuxian had let the tribespeople off, but he was intending to remove them from the island?
Su Jiu frowned. That was impossible. Because of the incident, many workers and tribespeople had sustained injuries. External predators were now eyeing the island covetously, and the island was now at its most vulnerable state. Such actions on Ji Yuxian’s part would only cause dissent and resentment among the tribespeople. That would lead to a rebellion and give the enemies a chance to benefit from it.
Ji Yuxian would never do something like that. The only explanation was that Shangguan was trying to scare them.
Su Jiu knew that right away and simply replied, “The Island Master will make the best possible arrangements for all of you. You can trust him.”
“Yeah, I trust the Island Master and Mistress!” Guo Mei said while nodding her head. With lingering guilt, she added on, “I never expected Yun Zhu to be so evil. I can’t believe I even pleaded with you to let her off! Now that I think about it, it was very stupid of me!”
“Even though you grew up with Yun Zhu, it wouldn’t have been easy to see through her. I’m not holding it against you!” Su Jiu said reassuringly as she poured a cup of hot tea for her. “What about that loverboy of yours? Has he returned to the tribe?”
Guo Mei turned to look at her. “Are you referring to Mu Liang?”
With her face riddled with resentment, she continued, “Mu Liang lied for Yun Zhu, and he was a perpetrator of the crimes. Last night, the assassins hacked off his arms. Although the tribesmen have brought him back, he’s still unconscious at the moment! Also, Yun Zhu has managed to escape, and the Tribal Chief has sent some people to chase her down. Once she’s brought back, she’ll be handed over to the Island Master and you to deal with!”
Su Jiu knew that Yun Zhu had been taken away by the men in black, and her whereabouts were unknown at the moment. It was likely that she would try to leave Wushan Isle with the same people.
She had caused the death of so many of her tribespeople and had caused the death of her father. Now, she was going to have to wander around without a home. Su Jiu wondered if Yun Zhu regretted her actions.
Then again, it was more likely that she had simply pushed all the blame onto Ji Yuxian and her, and was plotting her revenge at that moment.
“Mistress, let me help you comb your hair!” Guo Mei offered with a wide grin.
Su Jiu sat in front of the vanity table and passed her comb to Guo Mei.
Guo Mei combed Su Jiu’s long and smooth hair carefully and gently. “Mistress, your hair is so fine!” she remarked with a smile.
“Guo Mei, you don’t like Mu Liang?” Su Jiu asked the girl through the mirror.
The other day, when Guo Mei had seen Mu Liang together with Yun Zhu, there had not been any other emotion other than anger. There certainly had not been any sign of heartbreak. Even now, she was simply enraged that Mu Liang had aided Yun Zhu in lying to the tribe.
Guo Mei shook her head. “Mu Liang and I were betrothed from childhood by our respective families, but I’ve only ever seen him as an older brother.”
“So, who do you like?’ Su Jiu narrowed her eyes playfully at her.
Guo Mei blushed instantly. “I’m not telling you!”
“Is it Mu Ya?” Su Jiu asked.
“How did you know, Mistress?” Guo Mei widened her eyes in astonishment.
“I didn’t. I was just guessing!” Su Jiu replied with a grin. “So, it really is Mu Ya!”
Embarrassment colored Guo Mei’s face. “But Mu Ya won’t like me,” she commented.
“Why not?”
“Because all the girls in the tribe like him, and they’re all prettier than I am. Why would Mu Ya even notice me?” Guo Mei remarked dejectedly.
“I think you’re very pretty!” Su Jiu complimented sincerely.
“You don’t have to try to console me, Mistress. My mother used to say that I take after my father and that I didn’t inherit any of her beauty.”
Su Jiu burst out laughing.
As the both of them were conversing, Guo Mei kept looking out of the window, with worry hidden behind her eyes.
Su Jiu knew that Guo Mei’s parents were kneeling among the tribespeople, waiting to obtain her forgiveness.
“Come on! I’ll go downstairs with you!” Having combed her hair, Su Jiu took Guo Mei by her hand and walked out.
“Thank you, Mistress!” Guo Mei’s face broke out in a smile, and her eyes shined brightly.
Upon descending the stairs, Su Jiu saw Shangguan Yunkun and Jin Feng standing at the ground level. When they saw her, they greeted her respectfully, “Young Mistress!”
“Where’s Ji Yuxian?” Su Jiu asked.
“The Young Master and Young Master Wu are discussing something at the moment!” Jin Feng replied, “The Young Master left a message for the Young Mistress to eat upon waking up!”
“No rush!” Su Jiu stepped out the door and saw that it was still raining outside. The fog from the rain thickened, and the people kneeling in the courtyard were all shrouded in it. Together, they were a blurry mass, but there was complete silence.
“Shangguan!” Su Jiu called out. “Tell them that I don’t hold it against them. The Island Master won’t punish them either. Have them return home!”
Shangguang shifted his eyes towards them and nodded his head. “I will!”
Su Jiu stood at the wooden corridor. If they looked up, they would be able to see her.
Guo Mei knelt in front of Su Jiu and said tightly, “On behalf of the whole tribe, thank you, Mistress!”
“Help your parents up and go home!”
“Right away!”
Guo Mei wiped the tears from her face and ran into the rain.
At the same time, Shangguan carried an umbrella and headed out into the multitude.
Su Jiu stood there and watched as Shangguan stepped out of the building and said something to the tribal chief, causing Mu Zhen to look up and look over. He then led his tribespeople to prostrate to her before getting up.
The tribespeople helped one another up, before turning around to return home.
Jin Feng had already instructed the servants to set the table. “Mistress, please have your meal!”
“What did Wu Yi want with Ji Yuxian?” Su Jiu asked.
Jin Feng shook his head. “I have no idea either!”
…
In the chamber next door, Wu Yi finished an entire cup of tea, before finally speaking.
“Yan Shu and I set out to sea this time to go to Shengjing City. We were fortunate to stop by here and get acquainted with you, Eldest Young Master.” Wu Yi placed his teacup down and continued, “Although there is much I have yet to master, I still hope to do some good deeds with my medical knowledge, and open a medical hall in Shengjing.”
Ji Yuxian nodded his head. “Your kind heart is commendable, Young Master Wu. I owe you a debt of gratitude for saving my life. If there’s anything I can help with, please do not hesitate to let me know!”
“The status of the Ji Family in Shengjing City rivals most noble houses. Naturally, if I’m to accomplish anything in Shengjing, I’ll need to trouble you often. When are you intending to return to Shengjing? Can Yan Shu and I hitch a ride on your boat back with you?” Wu Yu asked politely.
The look in Ji Yuxian’s eyes deepened as he tapped his fingers on the table. Looking up at Wu Yi with a smile, he replied, “Of course! It’s because of me that you were made to stay on this island to begin with! The ship that you came in has already left Wushan Isle. The responsibility to get you off this island naturally falls to me.”
He then paused for a moment, before continuing, “We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning. Please make your necessary preparations.”
“Thank you!” Wu Yu replied with a nod of his head as he rose. “Yan Shu and I shall be waiting for you tomorrow morning, Young Master.”
Ji Yuxian rose to see him off.
Wu Yi took two steps out, before abruptly stopping and turning around. “The other day, before purging you of your poison, I made a careless joke. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Ji Yuxian naturally knew that he was referring to the request about Su Jiu. With a smirk, he replied, “I won’t, just as long as you don’t make such a joke again in future!”
“I’m just glad you’re not holding it against me!” Wu Yi said with a chuckle and turned to leave.
Ji Yuxian narrowed his eyes as he watched Wu Yi’s back.
He was hoping to do some good deeds with his medical knowledge?
A descendant of an apothecary of the Buyi tribe and a mysterious woman were both going to Shengjing City to open a medical hall? That seemed fishy to Ji Yuxian, regardless of how he looked at it.
What was Wu Yi trying to do?
He knew that he had to investigate further into that woman’s background if he wanted more clues.
Just then, Jin Feng knocked on the door and entered. He reported to Ji Yuxian that Su Jiu had ordered the tribespeople to return home.
Upon Jin Feng’s mention of Su Jiu, Ji Yuxian’s icy demeanor disappeared immediately. Warmth filled his eyes as he asked with a smile, “Where’s my wife?”
“She’s eating at the moment!”
Ji Yuxian nodded his head and walked out.
When Wu Yi returned to his room, Yan Shu was waiting for him.
The moment she saw him enter, she asked, “Has Ji Yuxian agreed to it?”
Wu Yi shook his head. “I didn’t bring it up!”
“You didn’t bring it up?” Yan Shu repeated with a frown. “What do you mean? You didn’t request for us to live in the Ji Manor when we go to Shengjing?”
“I didn’t!” Wu Yi’s face was emotionless. “Ji Yuxian is already cautious towards us. Even if I requested it, he would never agree to it!”
“But you saved his life! It wouldn’t be unreasonable for you to make such a request! How are you so sure he won’t agree to it?”
“It’s my gut feeling!” Wu Yi’s eyes flickered.
Yan Shu was rendered speechless.
“But if we aren’t living in the Ji Manor, how are we going to get close to Su Jiu? How am I supposed to seduce Ji Yuxian?” Yan Shu asked with a derisive laugh.
“I told him that we’re going to open a medical hall in Shengjing City, and we will be following him back. We’ll make further plans after we reach Shengjing!”
Yan Shu looked out the window and sighed. “Fine,” she replied. “It’s not like we have any other choice!”
In any case, they had already found an embodiment of Yin energy. They still had time to slowly plan their next move.
The rain only stopped in the evening. Old Gu prepared a last all-fish feast for them on the island.
He had also invited Wu Yi and Yan Shu to join them. However, when Wu Yi came and took one look at the spread, he courteously expressed that he was not hungry and returned to his room.
Using the excuse of having to take care of her master, Yan Shu retreated as well.
Shangguan was sitting there, about to use the need to check on the ships as an excuse for leaving, when Jin Feng suddenly rose and beat him to the punch. “Young Master and Mistress, please enjoy your meal. I’ll be checking on the ships to make sure they’re ready for tomorrow’s departure.”
Shangguan gritted his teeth and stared at him.
The moment Jin Feng left, Su Jiu turned towards Ji Yuxian and said, “Husband, didn’t you mention that some craftsmen from the tribe made some pearl jewelry for Mother? Shall we go and take a look to see if it’s completed?”
Ji Yuxian immediately held Su Jiu’s hand. “Sure, let’s go right now!” he replied with a grin.
After that, both of them got up and left.
Shangguan tilted his head as he watched the two of them leaving together, and his face darkened. He saw the craftsmen delivering the jewelry the day before!
All of them had lied right through their teeth! What sort of morals did they possess?
Old Gu carried his last dish of Spicy Boiled Fish to the table, and he gawked at the only person left seated there.
“Where’s everyone else?” Old Gu asked in bewilderment.
Shangguan’s eyes squinted as he smiled broadly. “They said they were busy, and they’ll be back to eat later.”
The table was still crowded moments before. How did everyone suddenly become occupied?
Old Gu harrumphed and said proudly, “Let’s just finish everything on our own without leaving them even a single drop!”
Shangguan Yunkun fell speechless, feeling slightly afraid.
“Here. I just learned how to cook Spicy Boiled Fish. Try it!” Old Gu placed the pot in his hand right in front of Shangguan Yunkun.
A layer of chili oil floated on top of the fresh fish, and several pieces of green vegetables adorned the dish. It looked pretty impressive.
Shangguan Yunkun picked up his chopsticks to put a piece of fish into his mouth. It was a little spicy, with the fresh taste of the sea, and along with it, there was even a hint of… His brows suddenly shot together, and he spat the food object out of his mouth in shock.
“What is that?” he demanded.
Old Gu was gazing at him, eager to see his response. He glanced down at the fish scales in his palm, and he smacked himself on the head.
“Oh no! In my excitement, I forgot to descale the fish!”
Shangguan Yunkun gaped at him in disbelief.
“Not a problem! I’ll descale the fish right now, and rid the fish of its intestines as well! It’ll be ready soon!” Old Gu carried the pot of fish back into the kitchen.
Shangguan Yunkun had a nasty suspicion that the fish had not even been properly slaughtered, and had been stewed directly.
Shangguan’s stomach rolled. He got up and bolted from the dining room.
Su Jiu and Ji Yuxian stepped out, but before they exited past the door, they heard someone arguing on the other side.
