Wild Crimson Rose: Beloved Handyman Princes Courtesan Wife - Chapter 434
“The others can follow behind. Or not, if you want to stay here instead. Just don’t interfere with our operations. If you try to harm any of our people, then we’ll just cut you down.”
Some of the survivors hesitantly sat down while others puffed up their c.h.e.s.ts with even more determination.
Not only were their numbers reduced, many of them were injured. At this point, it was more important to get out of here alive. That allied group was in much better condition than them so getting out of here can just be left to them as Ascendant Monuments automatically unlock itself and dissipate when someone clears it. If even they couldn’t clear the Monument, then it was even more impossible for them who were injured and few in number.
The other line of thought was that they all came here to grab some treasures. There weren’t any treasures in the places they just passed through so the treasure must lay ahead. It might be dangerous but that’s what they came here for and they already knew they would either die or get injured so forging ahead wasn’t such a daunting task. As long as they get their hands on some valuables of the Monument’s Master, they’ll be able to rise up again.
Shen Tianyu didn’t bother with them anymore either as she told Rong Jian to spread the Lighting Talismans around their group. The Lighting Talismans were at certain intervals so that the light wasn’t too bright but the members can still barely see their immediate surroundings. The two of them were again protected by their subordinates, being close to the middle of each line. The Two-Headed Bone Snake was at the very front, stating that it could be their shied with its tough body and lead the while while they were at it. The Tyrannical Sky Tiger took to their right while the Abyssal Crow perched on Shen Tianyu’s shoulder in the left line.
They advanced slowly in this formation, straining their ears and senses at any kind of sound or tremor. They tried to make their footsteps as quiet as possible so as not to attract attention of whatever resided here.
‘Whatever creatures are residing here seem to be asleep?’ Shen Tianyu thought to herself with one hand being held in Rong Jian’s grasp and the other in her Cosmo Pouch, ready to reach into it or her space at a moment’s notice.
As befitting of their classification, there are plenty of demonic beasts that prefer the dark. Of course, it was only prefer, and there were actually very few who could not live without darkness. Even so, as long as conditions allow, there were quite a few who would choose to live in caves and the underground or dense forests all their lives. So it was impossible to pinpoint exactly what was in here. And for everyone’s safety, it was better not to try to find out. Curiosity killed the cat1, after all.
Pit-pat, pit-pat
They proceeded in an agonizingly slow pace but no one dared to make a sound or complain. Their group might be relatively unscathed, completely fine as no one had yet been injured compared to the other groups, but this place was still one that took many lives. If they let their guard down, the whole team might be wiped out.
“It’s too dark. Why can’t we light up the surroundings some more?” A female voice that Shen Tianyu didn’t recognize entered her ear.
“Sshh… There’s something waiting for us in the dark. It’s better not to alert them.” Another unfamiliar male voice whispered past.
Since she did not recognize those voices, Shen Tianyu decided that they were not people from Yaodu. Besides, those from Yaodu should have heard the Two-Headed Bone Snake’s report since they were closest to the gate so they wouldn’t ask such a stupid question. As for Rong Jian’s subordinates… she even wonders if they’re all mute. She hasn’t heard a single peep from them except for the initial surprise of their Master having married.
The conversation went back and forth and some of her subordinates behind her grumbled in their throats in complaint or to get them to shut up. Seeing that things were going to get noisy, Shen Tianyu pulled out another Shield Talisman and kept it in her hand.
“Geez! I can’t take this anymore! This place is rough and dirty and I even encountered a mass of Parasitic Bees and Face-Devouring Mosquitoes! A bunch of our seniors died because of those damn insects and now we’re even bowing our heads like dogs to a bunch of unknown people from who-knows-where! Isn’t our sect supposed to be one of the strongest?! Why are we like this now?! I can’t stand it! I won’t stand for it!” The female screeched, finally having a mental breakdown from all the stress that had been building up.
Shen Tianyu was looking forward so she didn’t know what happened behind her but their surroundings suddenly got brighter all of a sudden.
‘Stupid bitch!’ She cursed in her head as she channeled spiritual energy into the Talisman in her hand. Immediately, a light purple light enveloped her and her surroundings. The bubble-like shield continued to expand as she looked around herself to make sure that all of her people were covered. Only then did she start to shrink and shape the Shield to make it a more effective sue of spiritual energy. She dashed to the back of the line with Rong Jian to double check that she got everyone to find that she had also enveloped some of the refugees.
“Tsk.” She clicked her tongue at the sight of this. These people were following closely behind them both for protection and their source of light. Which is understandable considering the circ.u.mstances but she already had a rock-bottom impression of them so her not killing all of them was already showing mercy, much less them trying to parasite off of her people.
Just as she was contemplating whether she should leave these people out of her Shield, a human scream sounded from outside of it. It’s a proverb. I’m curious to know what cat though? Whose cat?
