Wild Young Princess: Mister, let’s sleep? - Chapter 192
Two days had passed since Devon and Lewis agreed to try if things would work out on them. Their first kiss was… alright. It wasn’t passionate, but rather it was plain. But neither of them pointed that out as they held each other that night.
Honestly, their relationship remained the same. Well, not that they expected they will just magically fall in love with each other. But at least, the thought of being a real husband and wife was already instilled in their heart.
“You will not work today?” asked Devon, gazing at Lewis, who just came to join her for breakfast. He sat on the chair beside her, shrugging.
“How can I do that when you are visiting your family home today?” he raised his brows, cocking his head to the side. “Knowing you, you will probably have a heart attack even before you murder them in that state. Are you nervous?”
Devon clicked her tongue as she started putting food on his empty plate. “They should be the ones who should get nervous. I’m fucking suing them for killing my grandpa.”
Because of what happened with the princess and the ghost, Devon couldn’t stop the Lin Family’s plans. The accident didn’t help as well, since she couldn’t go and wreak havoc in the Lin Family.
“The only consolation I got was I met Grandpa,” she muttered, making Lewis’s brows elevate. “Back when I was a ghost, I met grandpa before that damn reaper took him with him to heaven. He told me things… and I’m sure the Lin Family will tremble in fear once they know about it.”
“Will you be alright?”
Devon glanced at him as she forked out a small potato from her plate and shoved it inside his mouth. “Why wouldn’t I be?” she watched him chew the potato and stab the other potato as well.
“You should eat it.” Lewis jerked his chin, knowing that she was simply feeding him because she wasn’t fond of potatoes. “It will help you with your recovery.”
“Come on, husband. I am being a sweet wife here, alright?”
“I have hands, wife.” Lewis spooned a potato from his plate and passed it on to her. A smile resurfaced in his countenance as he faced her.
“Eat well.”
“You’re evil, you know that?” she clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes. “Anyway, the Lin Family will fall to ruin.”
“Are you sure you want to do that?”
“Of course. Why won’t I?”
Lewis shrugged, closed-lipped. “The Lin Family business isn’t as big as the Qin Empire, so I don’t understand why your kin goes crazy for such a small amount.”
“Wow… talk about flex.”
“My point is, even when I don’t understand their reasons, from a businessman’s perspective, it’s still a shame. It’s a business established by your grandfather. It’s his blood and sweat. To build a successful business, I’m sure he also sacrificed years of sleep and broke important relationships,” Lewis explained as he refocused his eyes on his plate, casting her a side-eye every once in a while. “Ruining the business also means all your grandfather’s hard work will go down the drain.”
“I know.” Devon rocked her head lightly, leaning back on her wheelchair, eyes on the plate. “But it’s still better than letting those opportunists inherit my grandpa’s hard work. Not that I care about the money or the inheritance, but they deserve nothing from my grandpa. He built the company from scratch and they just… they just freaking can’t wait for him to die.”
“Didn’t your grandpa leave you any inheritance?” Lewis raised a brow in interest, as this was something they hadn’t talked about before. So, it piqued his interest since Devon was closed to her grandfather. If they were, it was suspicious how she didn’t have any share from the late chairman Lin’s wealth.
Devon glanced at him and let out a shallow breath. “Are you asking me because you don’t know? Or you’re just confirming?”
“So, it’s a false last will? They used such a dirty method?” Lewis nodded, even though she didn’t give him the direct answer. “How are you going to prove that it is fake? Do you have the authentic copy? But even so, that will be a long process.”
Devon rolled her eyes and smirked. “I told you months ago I was busy, right? Did you really think I was simply writing murder plans for nothing?”
“I don’t want to hear details of the murder plan you have for your family.”
“You’re no fun, husband.” A deep sigh escaped her lips while playing with her food. “Well, back when I was in the hospital, I reached out to people and lawyers — those people my grandpa trust. And also, I’ve been digging dirt in my brother’s and father’s.”
Lewis’s brows rose, surprised as this all happened without him noticing. “You dug the dirt on them?”
“Yes.” Devon glanced at him and smirked evilly. “I dug dirt and created a grave pit. I will help them lie down in it.”
“Oh…” he nodded, rendered speechless at how scary she could be. Although Lewis already knew what kind of person Devon was, it was still alarming in a way. She had been working on this and no one knew about it.
“Are you scared of me, husband?” she asked, waiting for him to look at her. “Do you think my ways are wrong?”
“No. I’m not the one to judge, but I was wondering.” Lewis paused as he faced her squarely. “Are all the dirt you dug on them hundred percent real? Aside from the last will, I don’t think your family will be so careless to leave evidence. Unless your intel is as efficient as the Qin Empire.”
That was right. Since Lewis was seeing this from a businessman’s perspective, it wasn’t difficult to find some loopholes in her story. In this kind of matter where money was involved, no one would be careless about making a slip-up. For example, Julian stayed out of Lewis’ radar not just because he trusted the man, but because Julian was meticulous.
“If you are this confident, that means no matter what they do, the result will be the same. So…” His eyes narrowed, studying her unchanging countenance. “… it makes me wonder where you got such confidence?”
“I think you are underestimating me, husband,” Devon smirked as she peeled her eyes away from him. “I am Lin Devon and I know the in and out of the business. I know my family more than anyone, so I know my enemies. Of course, I will still play fair and square.”
Devon paused as her eyes glinted with nothing but coldness. “Fair and square… at least, in the game they were playing.”
“Hmm. I’m in love,” Lewis humored as he chuckled while she glanced at him.
“You understand, right? Playing fair and square doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t play dirty. I mean, if they pull a silly stunt, you also need to do the same since the game is already rigged.” She shrugged nonchalantly as she continued eating, comfortable in showing her fangs at her husband. “Anyway, I hope my goodnight greetings to my family made them sleep peacefully. I will get worried if they don’t.”
Lewis glanced at her for a second. “So, should I assume you don’t need my help?”
“Gosh… your company is still in a damn crisis.”
“It is, but this shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Thanks, but it’s fine. I already have a plan.” She shook her head lightly. “Just drive me there.”
“You’re too kind.” Lewis pointed out while she chuckled weakly. “Instead of taking this to the court or in an official board meeting, you are still giving them a chance to avoid the worst.”
“Of course, I’m kind!” Her chuckles grew louder and evil, making Lewis look back at her with narrowed eyes. “The last thing I want is to be the young miss losing her mind and hungry for inheritance! I also need to show I have manners and… a perfect persona of a neglected daughter.”
“I’ll make sure to you will never have a reason to do a background check on me.”
Devon simpered as she cocked her head to her side. “Husband, I told you already. We are very similar. So, I already have a vague idea of what kind of person you are behind my back. I am not that woman who only sees the person whom you show to her. I will never buy that too good to be true shit.”
“But I am good…”
“Just to me and to those people who matter to you. I wonder how Derek managed,” she argued with a shrug. Lewis didn’t argue anymore as he also shrugged nonchalantly.
They continued to eat their breakfast in silence. As they did, Lewis snuck a look at her, and a subtle smile resurfaced on his lips. It was a smile that none had ever seen — except Derek. Whatever it meant, no one knew. But what was certain was her accepting words and how perceptive she was… pleased him in a way.
When Lewis peeled his eyes away from her, Devon cast him a side-eye. She caught him smiling subtly, making her shake her head lightly.
“Honestly, I don’t really care how dark you can be, husband. I prefer it if you drop the pretense and be who you are. I might actually fall for you since…” she trailed off as she cocked her head to him.. “… I always have a soft spot for villains.”
