Wild Young Princess: Mister, let’s sleep? - Chapter 193
Sometimes, in life, it was hard to distinguish what was right and wrong. Each person had their own perspective, and seeing things differently doesn’t necessarily mean the other’s opinions were wrong.
In Devon and Lewis’s case, they might share some similar ideals and see things the same way. However, the actions they take were different. Lewis, no matter how dirty his enemy’s play, always plays within the law.
Meanwhile, Devon, although rarely take anyone as enemies, her mind was set to play just as dirty as her enemies. But this doesn’t mean she wasn’t playing within the law. After all, there were always loopholes, and using them at her own disposals only affects her ethics.
So Lewis wasn’t the person to judge.
“So?” Devon glanced at everyone around the table inside her father’s study. There, was her big brothers and sisters. Her father sat at the other end of the table while his mistress, now wife on his right.
“Hah! What ridiculous —” Madam Su, Devon’s stepmother, scoffed in disbelief as she read the document meant for her.
When Devon came in here with her husband, everyone’s jaw fell to the ground, seeing the man wheeling her in. But their shock didn’t last long with the matters at hand. Devon didn’t give them enough time to recover when she offered them each folder containing each of their crimes.
“Madam Su, what do you mean?” she simpered, chuffed at the building-up fury from this detestable stepmother of her. “Do you mean it’s ridiculous how you, at your age, sleep around with younger men behind your husband’s back?”
“Lin Devon.” Her father, now the chairman of the LN Group, raised his voice as his fist on the armrest tightened. He already skimmed through the documents Devon presented to her. Although some of them were the truth, some were exaggeration that could be easily misunderstood the way she put it.
“What do you think you’re doing by giving us all these papers?” he asked in a firm tone, staring at his cunning daughter, who didn’t reach out to them for years. And the moment she stepped foot in their house, she was already stirring trouble.
“Little sis…” After Chairman Lin’s remark, the eldest brother scoffed in amusement and glowered at her. “… didn’t you cut your ties with us, saying you want nothing to do with us anymore? So, what is this now? Does your husband need money so you’re reclaiming the inheritance you gave up?”
Devon glanced at the door as Lewis was outside. She knew these kinds of words would be mentioned, so he asked him to stay outside the study.
“With this paltry amount?” she chortled in ridicule, staring at her eldest brother. “President Lin, why is your wife still not pregnant after five years of marriage?”
Her brother’s expression instantly changed as his eyes darkened. Although Devon didn’t add the personal discovery she learned about her eldest brother, hinting at him was enough to tell him she knew more.
“Chairman Lin, I am giving you these pieces of evidence because… I care about our family.” She spoke while traveling her gaze, taking a deep breath and out slowly. “Someone sent these to me, so it alarmed me. I mean, what will happen to the Lin Family if this went out? That the chairman and the CEO are embezzling funds, using a paper company to avoid taxes, and killing the late chairman to steal his company share?”
Devon paused for a moment and simpered as her eyes fell on her stepmother. “On top of that, Auntie Su fooling around with young men? Someone sent me a clip, and I had nightmares ever since I saw that. I nearly fainted because, as you can see, I was in an accident. But well, I bet you don’t care about that since you never asked.”
“Lin Devon!” Her stepmother harrumphed at the top of her lungs at this humiliation. Who wouldn’t when she was blatantly airing their dirty laundry out.
“Auntie, calm down. Haven’t you dealt with your anger issues just yet? You already look like a rich woman, but you still act like how you used to.” Devon chuckled while staring at her in dismay. “Well, I guess, no amount of jewelry or luxury goods can hide the traces of how you became from a mistress to the legal wife.”
“You!”
“What?” Devon gazed up when her stepmother suddenly sprung up to her feet, eyes turning red from anger. “Will you slap me? Perhaps beat me while telling me how I shouldn’t have been born just like before?”
Madam Su balled her hand into a fist, trying to suppress the urge to slap this rude girl. Devon had always been the problem child, or what they all thought. How she became like this was partially their fault, for they never gave her an ounce of love. On top of that, while growing up, Madam Su always fed her the idea about Devon’s insignificant existence.
The only ally Devon had in this family was the late chairman, who stood as her father. So after the chairman’s accident, they threw her away abroad, where she lived under surveillance. The reason Devon hated how Quentin monitored her. How she returned to the country was a different story, and it was a short story of a young adult sneaking back into her home country.
Devon scoffed as she leaned back, setting her eyes on her sisters, who were too terrified reading their own dirt. “Sister, try using contraceptives next time instead of aborting your child every time you get pregnant. Also, how can you open a boutique and scam people by telling them those are all your designs? And you, if I were you, leave this house before you totally lose your mind.”
The youngest, Diane Lin, who was still a teen, stared at her meekly. She pressed her lips into a thin line and said nothing. To her, Devon had always been the cool older sister, and coming back in here while upsetting everyone was something Devon would only do.
“Oh god… I think I will faint,” said Madam Su as her finger zeroed on her temple as it throbbed. She wobbled back to her seat, unable to deal with the building stress every time Devon opened her mouth.
“Wow… sis, how did you manage to find out that I’m in debt too?” Devon’s second brother, Daryl, the happy-go-lucky guy who wasn’t interested in anything aside from gambling, wowed while reading the information about him. “You even know the record of my drug intake — wow!”
“Second brother, you always make me envy your carefree nature.” Devon chuckled as she expected this kind of reaction from them.
“Sis, just don’t care too much and you will live a happier life just like me!”
“Apparently, I tried, but the effect is different.” Devon shrugged, but just then, their father finally broke the silence.
“All of you, leave,” he ordered, making Devon raise her brows. “Now.”
Madam Su didn’t even argue as she called for the maid to assist her out. Devon watched her dramatically drag her feet, grunting while complaining about her throbbing head. Daryl and Diane didn’t complain as they left with the fourth miss of the family. Meanwhile, the first brother, Bryan, glared at Devon for a long time before leaving.
The two who were left inside the study didn’t talk even when the door closed. They only stared at each other as if they were strangers.
“Lin Devon, do you want to ruin our family by doing this?” Her father, David Lin, inquired firmly. His eyes glinting, looking at her with no trace of affection of a father to his child.
Devon stared into his eyes and smirked. She was already used to how her father never looked at her the same way he looked at his other children. He didn’t even look at Daryl the same way he looked at her, which made her wonder why?
“Ruin?” she cocked her head with her eyes drooping half-open. “Chairman Lin, isn’t that a little exaggerated? I told you already. Someone sent all this information to me and it raised my concerns, so I’m giving them to you.”
“Hah… do you see me for a fool? Are you really that hungry for the inheritance you gave up –”
“You stole it,” she corrected, abruptly interrupting his sentence. “Of course, you will never admit that you forced me to give up on it.”
“Lin Devon…”
“I’ll make it short, Chairman Lin.” Devon’s eyes went cold, with no emotion left in them. “Step down from your position and return the things you stole from the people and from grandpa. If you don’t, then be ready to be flocked by reporters by tomorrow.”
Devon didn’t want to stay with her father for another second, as this felt suffocating. She wheeled herself but stopped when she was near his chair.
“I’ve been wondering ever since I was a child…” She took a deep breath and cast her eyes on him. “Chairman Lin, am I really your daughter?”
David Lin slowly set his eyes to his side where she was. He only looked at her before averting his eyes away. Devon let out a shallow scoff as he didn’t even bother answering her question.
“Don’t worry. I am just checking. I already know the truth…” Her words made his eyes dilate a bit while she resumed wheeling herself out. “…. brother.”
